Here's to the brave souls with ataxia that continue to work through the obstacles literally one step at a time. The advice to focus on one task is counterintuitive to the busyness our culture expects.
This is a great video with excellent comprehensive content. I have ataxia from MS & find this video very helpful. Thank you 😊

'CONTROLE' is a BIG deal! But being constant everyday!
My son 13, was diagnosed with Primary coq10 deficiency aka spinocerebellar ataxia 9 (SCAR9) By children’s Hospital Philadelphia in 2015. We have been doing PT OT for so many years with no idea there are therapists that specialize in this unique area. Can you give any references that we could forward on to the schools therapist to better help my son. Thank you in advance 🙏
Our baby at 2 years old is diagnosed of Cerebellar Ataxia. We found it very difficult to do the therapy considering his age. He used to be a very happy and energetic kid. Hope you can help us in his condition. A little advise and prayers will do.

Hip bridges are totally impossible for me. I'm not overweight for my size, but I've never properly learned how to engage my core muscles. Every time I try doing this exercise, when I brace my abs, it's my entire belly which locks itself, lungs included. Therefore I can't lift my hips more than a couple millimeters without having my face turn in beetroot mode. There are many functional movements that I never learned naturally: being born post term, I started crawling after my 9 months, and walking after my 3rd birthday. I'm not trying to become a new John Cena, but I just want to learn those functional movements that I never acquired, and be able to do the easiest versions of the most basic exercises.

I feel hip bridges are more hip and glutes focused. If you can, try to ignore the core and focus on flexing your butt muscles to drive your hips up. You can start with just a pillow or some type of small lever under your knees to make it easier until you get the hang of it. I love bridges, I think they're one of the best bang for your buck exercises.
I can not lay flat at all due to vertigo. can the exercises where you have to lay down flat have a modification?
How often should one do these exercises?
How many days fix ataxia gait to normal gait?
Thanks for the advice, I have been diagnosis with hereditary SCA3 and has been struggling with my balance. Love to be more proactive to delaying the decease. I will do upmost to adapt your exercise to my daily routine.0

I was diagnosed with this in HS and I no longer have it. No one ever told me this was not curable. I did physio and balance therapy and also smoked a ton of pot (not bragging but I think it may have helped). I dealt with this for 6 months or so and then gradually got better. 20 years later and no symptoms. I wonder if it was an incorrect diagnosis at the time.

I'm positive pot helps. Has to do with naturally sequenced sets of phytocannabinoids that fit our endogenous cannabinoid systems. The CB system is like a car's serpentine belt coordinating all the major systems, e.g., electrical, air exchange, fuel processing, etc., so it is absolutely necessary to supplement the CB system when it is damaged & being damaged. I.e., stay chronic.
I've been getting worse slowly for years. If you exercise each day, by the time you've finished, you can do them all in strict style. Come the following day, it iis all gone again until the exercise routine is coming to an end once more by the end it is do able! Like a diet, unless you keep it up, it will fail! I find for me, to exercise every hour. Just a couple of reps, and the memory holds it. I'm getting worse as i get older. Its funny, but, people ask me for advice!
Thank you

Thank you. Can you help by doing more exercises that will help with balancing the trunk . SCA-3 is also challenging my vision when walking. I am using a cane to walk so it is increasingly getting harder. Thanks 😊
I've not been diagnosed with anything yet. I don't think it is from a stroke, brain injury, etc., because my symptoms have not been acute. In other words my symptoms have developed relatively slowly over about 5 years. My symptoms also come and go. the worst symptom is my walking. I sometimes walk like I am drunk. I know what a drunk walk like because I used to drink, but haven't drank in about 10 years. I have lost my "balance" (I put balance in quotes because it is not from dizziness, it seems to be strictly muscle control). So bad sometimes I have to grab something to keep from falling. I have also fallen several times. I have problems swallowing and have to be conscious when eating and drinking not to choke. I just recently had issues with my speech. I suspect I may have MS. (I suspect M.S. because I know people with M.S. say "some days are good, some days are bad" that is my experience) I have noticed that exercise helps, although this seems to help more the next day, since I may have symptoms while exercising (making it difficult to exercise). Used to workout a lot. I first noticed symptoms while hiking about 5 years ago. I'm 54, so I first just ignored it thinking it was balance issues from age. I still walk with hiking poles, but I regret I am having to give up my intense hikes and goal of hiking the AT (Appalachian Trail).

Hi, I have SCA3 and I'm no doctor just someone who lives in a rural area with very little specialized physicians in this field, so I've done a lot of research on my own to educate myself about Ataxia. I'm not certainly trying to diagnose you in any way but it sounds like you may be experiencing a type of ataxia called Episodic Ataxia. It's just what it sounds like. You can have good moments and then moments where you are Ataxic. Good luck to you with whatever you discover about yourself, BUT, please, please don't stop moving and doing the things you love doing!!! If you have to modify with poles to help you, please be happy you're still hiking at all!! I'd hate to think of you having to stop all together because of Ataxia. Ataxia has taken activities away from me that I LOVED . Don't let that happen to you. Fight for yourself!! 💗
