    True. The argument many would say is "what about injuries" but there are less injuries in CF than any other sports such as football, soccer and basketball. And the injuries that often occur in CF is made from beginners being to eager.

    The standard for a crossfit pullup is to go from straight arms to chin above bar (these were actually chest-to-bar). The most efficient way to accomplish this is doing a butterfly kipping pullup (what you saw most of them doing) or a standard kip, in which you generate momentum with your hips. You're doing the same amount of work as a strict pullup (work = force * distance) but you're using more musculature to do so. This allows you to do more work over a shorter amount of time.

    Bodybuilders and powerlifters shouldnt hate on crossfit. everyone has different goals, different forms of fitness suit different people. At the end of the day we all have the same goal of bettering our body, whether it be in strength, size of endurance. As a competitive bodybuilder and recreational powerlifter I can respect crossfit for getting otherwise inactive people up off the couch and doing something healthy. Keep the attitude positive, hate on planet fitness instead.

    They are doing butterfly pullups they are intended for speed not for strength kipping pull ups you actually drop below the bar and use a up and down momentum to bring you to the bar as opposed to butterflys which use a circular momentum, crossfit is about doing the workout at a high intense but regulated pace

    using your body swing and momentum for those "pull-ups" puts the pull-up definition in a different level, doing this way is obviously easier than doing dead pull-ups (the way I think you should correctly do them) with full stretch of the arm in both ends, I can probably do 20 per set, but the way these guys are doing it I think (and with all due respect) is not a clean way, yes you get muscle benefit, but you get too much help from the momentum and swinging, and it looks funny, sorry. I feel cross fit is a way to introduce common people to working out in an easier way, but making this a competition kind of defeat the purpose,

  • @mikel3093

    @mikel3093

    10 жыл бұрын

    Having done both strict pullups and butterfly, i actually have more trouble with the butterfly because of the cardio it introduces. yes you're using momentum into the next pullup, but your generating that momentum. so yes they're faster and you still get the benefit. also, in this workout they are doing chest-to-bar pullups. in a normal strict pullup, you only need to get your whole head above the bar to make it count, for these to count your chest must touch the bar below the clavicle.

  • @marzbite

    @marzbite

    10 жыл бұрын

    If you try to extend your arm completely straight when you go down and when you go up go all the way to the limit (muscle-up if you can) those are difficult pull-ups, not using momentum but doing them slow, I am not undermining the "butterfly" as you call them, but I personally don't get any stronger doing that style, is just like you mention, more of a cardio multiple exercise, as you get stronger cardio becomes part of any routine as you have more strength to do anything faster and clean, I am not in the philosophy to start easy, I like to start difficult and progress exponentially, I appreciate your intelligent comment, thank you.

  • @Bandyglen

    @Bandyglen

    10 жыл бұрын

    It's a different kind of a pullup with cardio as a target. Yes, it is easier to do a butterfly pullup when you learn how to do it, but they are difficult to learn. Crossfitters do heavy loaded dead pullups aswell, the butterfly one is just a different way to look at it, not an easy way out. When you get a total of 400 reps to finnish of 4 difficult excersises, you dont do the dead hang pullup because you NEED to finnish fast. So in an event like this, it's all about the cardio, you dont build strength doing kipping pullups, you build it with the dead hang ones, then you use that strength to kill the timer when you have to do the quick butterfly ones.

    Thanks for maintaining a positive yet critical response. I have no doubt its extremely difficult. However its just not my style and I likely will never watch anything like this again. I didn't negatively rep, since it still looks difficult and takes skill, I just don't see the point in it (which is of course because its not my style). I like powerlifting, which is using leverages/momentum/stretch-reflex to your advantage. Thats what they are doing, just in a different way. +1 vote Hamp TY
