CBC Newfoundland April 26, 1993 Sign-Off

Ойын-сауық

Yes! At long last! A CBC Newfoundland sign-off from late April 26, 1993! And exactly as you remembered it.
A word of note: if you were kicking yourself not knowing some of the music that ran during the test pattern, this particular piece is an excerpt from "L'Oggetto" by Giancarlo Nicolai and Regula Neuhaus.

This is easily my favorite CBC sign off, this along with other videos have generated an outsiders interest in Newfoundland and Labrador. I used it as a design base for my sign off mock. :)

Love the classy music over the colour bars! Nice touch by the CBC! Our sign-offs in America were usually so harsh with an end-of-the-world quality. The arrangement of "O Canada" was very moving. Thanks for sharing these gems!

I recently obtained a bunch of videotapes from a relative, some containing several movies that aired as during the old CBC Late Night block around 1990-92. I looked through one such tape and at the end of a movie found part of an EVEN OLDER signoff which was a simple scrolling list of the CBC stations in Newfoundland. A shame that it was taped over with another CBC Late Night movie. Since there were a bunch of old movies recorded from that block, I'm sure that there might be a complete version somewhere.

This is the sign-off for the CBC's St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador Station CBNT Channel 8, which we never get to see on our Satellite Dish years ago. And it was the only station unaffected by the transition in Network Affiliations serving St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, after CJON-TV became an independent station, after it was disaffiliated from CTV Television Network in the Fall of 2002.

the name of our province was newfoundland until 1999 and then the provincial government renamed our province to newfoundland and labrador, back then cbc had main operations including master control from st. john's and operations in corner brook at cbyt, happy valley goose bay had cblt for labrador, today the only thing we do in st. john's is provide local news on tv, websites, and local cbc radio, corner brook cbyt and cblt for labrador 100% simulcast cbnt, master control and all other operations are done from toronto, very different from when each station did its own individual operations until september 2000.
