    I'm surprised that this Canadian TV channel still signed off as late as 2004, when many channels in the US stopped signing off, and started going 24 hours, in the 90s.

    I was surprised that CBC (The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) has a sign off in Canada. I was originally born in the United States and not in Canada. But my aunt lives in Canada.

    There hasn't been a sign off like this in years. Like most stations they've gone to continuous programming.

    I can tell that this sign off is from 2004 (CBC stations were still using 1983 Michael Mills Productions O Canada animated national anthem film in 2003).

    The CBC logo at 6:01 uses a sample from Spectrasonics - Distorted Reality II called LUMINIZE. This sample is better known for being used as the Winter Tundra music in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage.

    At the 2:11 mark..some CBC stations replaced the control room shot with a sequence identifying the city, call letters and channel of the appropriate CBC station, e.g. "Ottawa CBOT-4".

    Does C.B.C. has one national services or Regional versions for time differences like the U.S.? Also how is C.T.V. different to the C.B.C. U.K. viewer . When did C.B.C. begin 24 hour television? U.K. viewer.

    the CBC has local affiliate stations in all the major (and many minor) Canadian cities which are time shifted for their region and includes a local newscast in addition to "The National", (the nightly national newscast that's broadcast on all stations at 10PM in each region). CTV is a separate private completely commercial Canadian television network, with private affiliate stations across the country (similar to ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX in the US). CBC has been broadcasting 24-7 for about 10-12 years now. The separate CBC News channel has always been 24 hours since it was launched in the late 1980s.

    Thank You. So like the U.S. and Australia there is no such thing as a National C.B.C. or C.T.V. Television Service? Also has C.B.C been transmitting extra Olympic Streams like the B.B.C. A.R.D./Z.D.F. Germany and N.O.S. Netherlands? GOD BLESS!

    CTV in Canada is like ITV in the UK being privately owned and funded completely by adverts, unlike the CBC and BBC which are publicly funded through licence fees (BBC) or government funding (CBC).

    Is C.B.C funded by a Licence Fee as well as commercial breaks? U.K.viewer.

  • @TransCanadaPhil

    @TransCanadaPhil

    no there's no licence fee. Just commercial breaks. I'd prefer it if it were like the BBC and had a licence fee without commercials. It would improve the quality. I watch a lot of BBC iPlayer online and I prefer the BBC model. The advertising on CBC has a negative impact on the quality of CBC programmes. It creates a conflict of interest between their public service obligations and their desire to maximize ratings for advertisers. Unfortunately unlike the UK, we don't really have a strong tradition of public-service broadcasting here (although moreso than the U.S.), and there's always pressure put on the CBC to "operate like a business". The CBC tends to buy into this ideology themselves sometimes and often "chases ratings" just like private broadcasters due to the negative influence of advertising on the network. As a result you don't see the kind of commitment to niche audiences like you do with BBC shows like "The Sky at Night".

    +garry simpson Correct. The only national station is CBC news. There is a main network feed that is often broadcast across the country simultaneously on all cbc stations during live events (sports, elections, Olympics), but yes that feed passes through the local stations which insert their own news and other local content.

    Is that exactly the same for C.B.C/C.T.V. in french? Also when did C.B.C. start 24 hour television? To conclude the Olympics here in Europe go to Eurosport from 2018 to 2022. What about Canada? C.B.C. or T.S.N. is that the same as E.S.P.N.? A former disabled carer for my late and lovely Mum. From the New Forest GOD BLESS!

    Exactly the same with CTV and Ici Radio Canada, ie shows are played out according to time zone (except Halifax, which only the CBC does). CBC went 24/7 in 2006, I think, but Radio-Canada still signs off every night (4am til 6am). The Olympics will be with CBC (and Ici Radio Canada) until 2024, then who knows? It would be a big loss if it went to TSN or Sportsnet. TSN is like ESPN (same style logo)
