CAUTION, Runway WET! Pilatus Porter

Watch me land in two of the most slippery runways I've ever landed on, on a regular bases.
They are both situated about 40 NM South of Nabire, surrounded by mountains and various valleys.
The usual weather builds up from mid morning and closing between 12 and 1 o'clock pm. The rains stay overnight and clear early morning. When I arrive to these destinations I'm already predicting and mentally preparing for the hazardous conditions.

    Wow, that tree in front of the L wheel @ 14:04 might need to come down. When you reverse the aircraft, do you have markers on the bank to show when you the pilot are level with it?

  • @APilotsHome

    @APilotsHome

    That tree helps me align my nose for departure 😂 I'd be really sad to see it cut off haha. For the reverse, I don't have any markers but I take visual references and I also look for obstacles in the parking area while I'm turning her around. Thanks for interacting! Cheers!

    Interesting... scary too.... that bush at the end of the runway on your last take off was mighty close to your tail, or it seemed to be, to say nothing of the chickens on your first take off... all in a days work I guess, but it must get mighty stressful given the conditions and less than ideal runways. Kudos mate... 👍😄

  • @APilotsHome

    @APilotsHome

    Жыл бұрын

    You are right. That bush did get close. In that particular TO I had a strange tailwind on departure. Usually I get airborne earlier and clear the bush no problems. That bush helps me align my nose on departure, hence I never ask to cut it down 😂 there are indeed lots of stressors in a days work. I usually have to sleep after a full morning flying. Thanks for your message and great observation skills. Cheers mate!

    Great question. Not really, the way the air intake is designed makes it very difficult for FOD to travel all the way up to the engine. On some models you see a cover in front of the intake but that's more for snow in glacier ops. Cheers!
