Great! Thanks much. It is sad that Pilatus Porter has been discontinued . Great aircraft indeed!
That's super impressive, never knew the PC6 had such capabilities..
First time seeing Beta Descent. This is amazing.
What a workhorse the Porter is!
please, dont stop to make this kind of videos
Fantastic! Now I gonna try the same in my Flight Simulator... Wish me luck! Thanks for the video!
I was skydiving a few years ago in Chambery, France and the pilot always managed to land before us after we'd jumped out. Never seen it since and now I know why, he was flying one of these.
Wow. That’s legit. Amazing work
I am a skydiver and jump pilot, the Pilatus is one of my favorite jump planes. I love your videos keep up the great work.
So informative
Ok! Thank you for the great demonstration of the flight beta descent!
Very cool, thank you for time and effort ! I would add that certain riggings requires to momentarily lift off the PCL into reverse to correctly enter in flight Bêta range, as not a Pil' is the same as another and some are rigged so mildly they would never enter it below 60 IAS. Some skydive PC-6s I flew were so aggressively rigged on the PCL cam and Beta valve that they entered Bêta as fast as 110 IAS in cruise and you litterally were stopped in mid air. The lifting detent is just a mark on the full PCL range after all, you can also manipulate PCL forward of the detent with the lever pulled up, and badly rigged you could even have reverse without going into that " visual " reverse range of the quadrant. I'm sure you know all of it already as a Pilot and Mechanic, it was more to add more details for other readers about the particularities of the PC-6 Bêta. Safe flights !

Indeed. I made it a habit to test the point the prop goes into beta whenever I first fly a particular PC-6 or after maintenance. At altitude or early in the approach to avoid surprises near touchdown. Every operator or maintenance company seems to have a different take on the rigging. I prefer it to enter beta at beginning of the white arc (85-95kts) with the PCL at the stop. For skydiving we by the way almost never use beta descents. Our default is PCL idle, Np 1700RPM and 130kts. Is a bit nicer for the neighbors and less vibration on the airframe. Honestly do not think it is significantly slower.
Great Beta explanation, thanks from an Xplane Pilatus PC-6 pilot.
Brings back happy memories of my days in the mid 1970's. Thank for the trip down memory lane.
Hi from South Africa, probably the best Beta decent video I have ever seen, Pilatus could use this as their training video, you Sir are a master and an excellent Pilot, it is rare to experience an Pilot as accomplished as you are yet still maintaining the basics and being as professional as you. Keep up the good flying, I have subscribed and will be a loyal follower as well as get some of that merchandise ordered from you. Cheers & keep it real, Rory
Enjoy the commentary, especially that about beta
Amazing! Got my heart going...I can't wait to do that.
Very interesting. I think I will enjoy your KZread videos.
Nice video, sir.
I would love to fly one of these. There is just something about them.
AWESOME explanation of Beta Decent. Thanks for sharing your videos.
Good landing! New sub here.
Wow, absolutely amazing!
wow, very impressive stuff, with very good explanations ! Thx for your great work !
Thank you , very instructive.
Thankyou, great explanation. The altitude meter certainly helped to explain a lot to a novice. Appreciate the video.
these are very good videos your producing. Beta works great in the standard Van. 90 kts 20 flaps 30 degrees pitch and spiral down threw a small whole in the cloud. it was part of my mountain flying training in the 206 (flight idle) back in NZ. my 1st step is always to Bug the escape.
You deserve so many more subscribers
Awesome. Thank you.
Very nice done...You will like the PC6 on 35'inc tires🥰
woah that last landing was whack! got adrenaline behind my seat
Outstanding!!
Never knew this is how its done. Very good!
That was an awesome demo and explanation! Thanks man!

Beautifull aircraft... Im mesmerized by it
Awesome flight... thanks for the knowlegde 🤙
You showed at the end a beta approach into omban strip.Do you have a video showing a departure out of omban airstrip ? That would be interesting to see .
awesome
Love it!
Keep those videos coming!!

Nice Flying! Impressive approach with Beta! Great instruction/info. Fly safe! I am an airline pilot and our operation is quite different 😁.
Amazing 💪👍🏻❤️
That was very informative, thanks, still need the engine noise though, it adds that extra immersive touch to videos like these.
Awesome video...!!!

Ok, I'll post a pic of it for you.
As said before: Good work. I have taken the Porter to some of the European altiports like Courchevel, but this is another level. Also really like your organizations safety culture! Your charts are top notch, way better than what exists for most altiports here. I noticed that you guys have your ignition on for landing, which is not something I see mentioned in my AFM. But in this rather unforgiving terrain I can totally understand why you would want that added layer of safety. One question there: do you notice any increased wear on the ignitors by doing this?
That is some macho flying.
Great description and demonstration here! Former E model USAF Herk driver here who's very impressed with the Porter's capabilities. PS: Thought you'd be interested to know that there are two Porter models (a default version and a payware version) available in the new MSFS2020, and some of those "simmers" are using your video as a tutorial for it.

reverse prop is also to taxi backwards..
Great video! When you started the beta descent, my ears automatically started feeling like they needed clearing. 😂

@@ZehrAir i went to insta for that ;-)
I wonder if the German Lufftwaffa, “Stuka Dive Bomber,” had the same Beta feature? It almost seemed as I was watching your decent through the clouds it had a dive bomber feel to your decent. Nice landing.
Just subscribed :)
Can i see the cockpits of these planes at this airport? Can i see the cockpits in flight as a passenger? I really love aviation and i tried to fly three different planes like the Piper PA28 Arrow in Denmark, Aeroprakt A32 (Newest version) also in Denmark my home country and a Cessna 206 Stationair in Alaska. It was amazing! Now I’m 15 and I still love aviation. I flew when i was 13 and up to now 15:)
Never gonna forget when I went to Omban

Can you please explain to my what the -25% prop control would be used for and what situation ? Thanks
I jumped a Pilatus in Issaquah Wash. The plan was like an elevator.

English?
Доброго времени суток. Подскажите пожалуйста вы перед посадкой тягу thrust только на idle ставите, после посадки только ручку с reach на idle переводите?
Nice video, what was the point of the initial steep beta descent from 10k down? It didn't look like there was any serious terrain and 4k fpm on the vsi could hurt passengers who are not used to that kind of descent rate. I can understand it on an approach with an obstacle but don't see why you would descend so steeply while you could have easily done a cruise descent in the present situation.

It was a demonstration! The captions stated that they don't do it with passengers.
I take my hat off!!!!
And also what's the code for the strip at the end please e
0:47 why on earth you show the actual beta descent at the beginning?
Hello, what is that track, for my fs2020
How much was your pitch down? We could do 6000 ft/min at 270 KIAS - full speedbrakes and gear down ~ 9.5 deg nose down in the 767 :-)
What is the long horizontal row of switches on top of the dash?

@@ZehrAir awesome! thanks for responding. that's such a unique way to do a checklist. Maybe I'll strap one of those on to my little SR22 :D
I've gotten emails from recruiters mentioning JAARS. Is that the organization that wants volunteers for everything from pilots, dispatchers and mechanics to DO's and DOM's?
pilatus still supporting porter with regards to spare parts?

They are not making new porters but are still supporting parts.
Audio is a little loud
is this strip marked with an identifier? would love to fly that approach in a sim to see if i could land without bending the aircraft

It is WAUN in MSFS2020
this is a bit tame, we used to descend the porter vertically using reverse. you need to go past the gate to get it into beta
@ZehrAir
Жыл бұрын
Reverse, coming over the gate in flight is not approved. Beta starts at idle, in the porter its flat pitch at the stop / gate. I have seen people use reverse in flight and read plenty of accident reports that makes "tame" just fine with me.
Why not let those people worship their own god(s) rather than imposing yours on them?
Not good for the ears!
