Scott I was sitting here with a broad grin on my face as you were WOWed by the country up home. You were flying over a small bit of the country Dad flew a lot over 70 plus years ago, in aircraft you would be lucky to find in a museum. Yeah you made me a bit homesick and remembering times gone by. Thanks for bringing us along with you for the ride. Safe travels to you.

I remember some of the same inspirational views bringing back my C-310 from Ketchikan to Virginia. I think you made the same mistake I did...I didn't spend any time in Alaska before heading back. I was on a mission to bring the airplane back and didn't stop to see the sights while I was there. I had to go back 20 years later to actually see Alaska. Beautiful and inspiring state.

Scott: I was to Alaska, NWT, Yukon, and the rest of Canada in my youth. It started in childhood as my father was an airline pilot who started in DC-3's and retired in Boeing 757's. His favorite life ong love affair was hunting, fishing and flying. Many a time I got to go along on fishing trips to Yakitat, Juneau, Cordova, Fort Franklin on Great Bear Lake, or Inuvic. I got to see all these places by many different modes. Commercial airliner, private airplane inland passage ferry, motor home, or Goldwing. I'm 60 now with a lousy heart and these things are no longer an option so I have one bit of aged wisdom. Cherish every second that you're getting to do these things my friend, don't take it for granted. If your unlucky and don't get killed doing something you love, there'll come a day you can't. Cherish it All! Scott Pecora. PS: I also got to get a couple hours time in Clay Lacy's heliporter along with Clay. He had a cabin on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho at Pistol Creek for many years and usually flew the Heliporter in. It's a private dirt strip and my family had a cabin back there also and still does. Amazing airplane. Clay generally flew it up from Van Nuys CA in the spring and store it in Boise then fly it back to Van Nuys in the fall. Then he'd either fly Commercial or his Lear to Boise then fly the Porter into the Ranch, or run errands around the Idaho back country. But that's another whole set of stories!

Alaska flying is gorgeous, the fog is something to get used to. In another life I flew from PABR to KLFT, I recorded 3 hrs of go pro great memories. I planed the flight using the interior route, two reasons there very few forced landing areas on your route ( helicopter mentality ); also my parents worked on the AlCan highway in the 1940s the terrain was very difficult according to my parents after seeing it from the air it was an increadable job pushing that road through wilderness. The Greatest Generation keeps on shining.
