You guys do as good of a job handling fish as any fishing channel on social media - great job caring for the trout and not disregarding the health of the fish in the name of the content (not that the content suffers at all - it's also top notch). It's great to see such good environmental stewardship - my hat is off to you!

That graceful dip in the drink, and those tank rainbows made my week 💯 Looking forward to more of your trips!
NZ is fishing paradise when it comes to trout. U don't even have to try. Once after catching a monster (what I thought was a monster) my NZ compadres told me it was too small and to chuck it back! LOL, I said if I caught that one in Australia, I'd be on the front cover of fishing world LOL!
Keep up the good work. I enjoyed the honest frustration in this video. It keeps a dose of reality in there that you're not just roping fish in a barrel. And there's nothing wrong with some spin fishing from time to time :)

My Lord those are behemoth trouts. NZ'ers sure have the discipline practicing catch and release. Cheers from Colorado!!

Awesome video as always, can't believe the size and quality of that fishery has to be a catch and release stream or I hope it is to keep those big boys in there
Awesome footage guys! It's the 1st video I've watched and I had to subscribe immediately

Doggone it, man-this is simply spectacular viewing! If I watch these at bedtime I get so jacked up I have trouble falling asleep. The caveat is that I have killer dreams of hooking into massive trout when I finally do conk out. Truly inspirational content as always!

What weight fly line/rod for these fish?
Not that I have ever fallen down while fighting a fish but Dan that was funny. Full immersion. I walked off the is basalt shelf and went swimming. I had neoprene waders on so I popped right back up. Cold water wakes you right up. I always wade with a belt. Good God, huge trout, these are river monsters.
amazing fish! Love seeing them.

I really enjoy fishing videos and I want to see different ways of fishing in the world.Awesome video!!!
listening to him talk about the spin rod is hilarious "can't catch fish on it." Coming from Florida I grew up on spin rods. I'm about to start fly fishing and I was wondering the same thing about fly rods.

I grew up in Yellowknife doing spin fishing. I started fly fishing and caught a 5 inch brown trout on a dry fly and felt like a kid again. Trust your gut, get into fly fishing. It's the best way to fish hands down!

I am normally a meat hunter, but i cant bring myself to kill these sentient creatures. Love your work, and ill continue avoiding you at the hine! 🤣
Greetings from Canada, those are some awesome trout, great footage, nice catches and beautiful river. I should visit NZ soon 👍

G, if you read a lot of the comments below there are many questions about the fishery - wild v stocked, land locked versus sea run, what they feed on, etc etc. Maybe give a bit of a lowdown at the start of the next vid in the series - I realise you are back home, but still...My understanding is they're mostly wild fish, migrate up from the canals to the headwaters running out of the lakes?

Hello nice meeting you guys, I'm new at fly fishing and I lost a very large trout Sunday it got in the super fast current and I had to horse it a little bit and due to the tiny hooks these flies have it came unbuttoned. What size flies do you use that are dependable landing such powerful fish in fast water?

@@TroutHuntingNZ Whilst Trolling fly rod on one side and a 91/2ft. Light with a old Mitchell 306 or Dam Quick and 20lb.braid a bunch of 50s Rapalas single barbless old wooden flatfish. As I popularized Fly Fishing by catching fish after fish at the local lake some 8 to 10lb. One thing during the non-bite well it attracts fish to my boat but they bite the fly mostly.
