Does like nobody in New Zealand keep trout to eat? Any trout over 3lbs in the states is considered a giant and any trout over 10 is a trophy. I highly highly highly recommend keeping one for a catch and cook. If you can fillet the fish keep the skin on. Season it with salt and lemon pepper and garlic, fresh or powder works. Sear the skin till it’s golden and crispy. Then sear the flesh side till it’s nice and brown. Serve it with Brussel sprouts and top it off with a Lemon butter sauce and dill! I promise you won’t be disappointed!

You're quite right, they are spawning fish, and if anglers are as passionate about the fish as some say they are, they should be left alone to do their thing. I have been a CSI guide for over 20 years, and don't know of any others that actively target spawning fish, but F&G regulations do allow this....... this is just me personal opinion.
