There is more than one Trout record. Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, Brown, Brook to name some. Lake trout in the Northwest Territories get upwards of 50-70 lbs. Record is over 70lbs I believe from Great Slave Lake or Great Bear Lake. World record brook trout was caught in my Region the Nipigon river at just over 14lbs.

ive fished in south island especially around the Remarkables and Southern Alps..I caught some decent trout( and a few enormous eels)..I did see some big boys over 20lb but I never got them to take a lure or fly..they really are very crafty and will follow the lure into your feet..but just won't take it properly..it's very frustrating..some of the locals reckon that the reason they get so big is because they turn cannibal and also take mice on the surface..I have since seen this on a David Attenborough documentary but didn't witness it in NZ.. If you love trout and like clean air and cold clear water..along with awesome lord of the rings scenery..south island is hard to beat..and the trout really are the biggest you'll ever see even if you probably won't catch a big boy..

We all know it's the salmon farms. Half the pellets tossed in to feed the buggers fall through the nets. The salmon outside the enclosures gorge themselves. Hint. if you get caught out with a fish that's to heavy for the scales, there is a solution. You need some rope. Tie one end of the rope to a fixed point that's high enough so that when you weigh the fish, it's not going to be on the ground. Put fish in bag or net for weighing and pass rope freely through part of net/bag so that you can attach scales to the lose end of rope. Now pull the scales up so they are on the same level as the fixed end of rope so the rope forms a sort of "V". Read the scales and double the vale to reveal the true weight. _If you have a fixed point and scales on the other end of the rope, what ever you're weighing, provided that it's free to move on that rope and is at the bottom of the "V", what ever you're scales read is half the true weight. The fixed point taking up the other 1/2 of the weight. But you have to make sure that the fixed end and the scales are at the same height._ That aside. What a stoking fish. A real _clonker_ as we'd say in the UK. And to see other huge trout just _lazing about._ Awesome!!

I dont know, unless that fish ate 10+lbs of lead weights I dont see how that could possibly be 37lbs. Its a nice catch but I would be surprised if it was over 27lbs. I am comparing it to kings though, so it is a really nice brown. The biggest Ive caught was about 15lbs.

To clarify: mine was a tongue in cheek mention bc Im partial to and proud of the fishery I mentioned...thus the ;) There was also a 41.5 oz brought to net in my home state of Wisconsin in addition to the 41.7 oz fish caught in Michigan! ....All beautiful giant, beautiful fish!
