If you listen to the song carefully and look at the structure you can almost hear Catherine Howard from Wakeman's Six wives of Henry the 8th album

This song is a hymn that was included in our Presyterian hymnbook, and we sang it in children's choir long before Stevens' beautiful version. This is from a Wikipedia entry: "Morning Has Broken" is a Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and was inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex, then set to a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune, "Bunessan".[1] It is often sung in children's services and in funeral services.

It is also sang in the Catholic Church. The guitar mass started it... now it's in the music books.

When I was a child in school in London. ..We sang this every morning before class...It's a stunning song ..tears

It doesn't matter what anyone's religion is, this song praises God's creations that we all understand. Thank you for your sincere appreciation.

Piano parts was composed and played by the great Rick Wakeman who also is a legend in his own right..sadly the record company didn't allow him to be credited on the album and was only paid $12 for this..but He says he was cool with it cause He loved his friend Cat Stevens..What a Guy !!

Hi from Minnesota, USA (where your aunt lives). This is a beautiful song and a special one for me. This was a song that my aunt and uncle sang at our wedding in 1974. Our 46th anniversary will be coming up in the fall of 2020. Thanks for commenting on it.

Cat Stevens is one of my favorite artists. His delivery is peaceful. I FEEL his voice. Thank you Cat Stevens. Peace Train is another great song by him. He is also known as Yusuf Islam. Peace ya'll. Be kind to one another.

Morning is my favorite time of day. .It's cool, my plants wake up and the sweet scented air.

It's a prayer of gratitude for our life and world.

This always makes me tear up. It is just so beautiful and hopeful.

We sing this in our church. It's such an uplifting song.

@ilovecatweazle, not as modern as you think. The tune is a Scottish folk song from the 1800s, lyrics were added in 1931. Because he was a singer-songwriter, many people, even today, think Cat Stevens wrote the song.

The evocation of so many beautiful images..a truly amazing, inspiring song and the delivery and the piano are absolutely perfect. An absolute masterpiece!

My father gave me my first Vinyl record and it was this album. I will never hear a Cat Stevens song and not think about him. Cat Stevens is a genius; I will never know god like when I first heard this song on its original vinyl.

Cat Stevens has always had a very spiritual soul. In this song its "God's Re-Creation Of A New Day." Priceless!

Cat Stevens was my favorite singer/songwriter. Why do I still listen to music everyday? Because Cat Stevens, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder....Zappa, Beatles.etc is all music I grew up with. So of course I grew up to be a music head.

Maybe he' a great singer -songwriter, but he didn't write this song! This song was first published in 1931, the words are by British poet Eleanor Farjeon and the music is a traditional Scottish Ballad.

One cannot help but to smile when Cat Stevens sings...especailly this song. I remember when it first came out.

This song is a Christian hymn originally published in the 1930's. Cat Stevens' version is beautiful and clearly brought the song into the popular mainstream and secular consciousness. He recorded this well before he chose Islam as his faith, but the song's lyrics really cross all boundaries of faith. Just beautiful.

Tea for the Tillerman is a masterpiece.

Love this hymn.

the one two three, one two three beat is a standard waltz, perfect for ballads.

Reminds me of school assembly...loved it then, played by Miss Baker (with goofy teeth, and a fantastic music teacher). I like playing this on the acoustic, though I exchange one or two major chords for minor...still seems OK.

That my church has frequently sung. That I'm not mistaken cat Stevens wrote this musical arrangement... You should check out some of the songs on the numbers album ,which is a concept album..

Believe it or not y'all; as well as it was sung by Mr. Cat Stevens, (and boy how about that piano riff!?) It's actually a Christian hymnal written back in the 19th century..Pretty wild; I think so anyway.
