It's easy to understand why this song and performance by Cat Stevens is so widely loved. But, when I see you so deeply moved, I think it says as much about you as it does the song.

When I started going to Church they sang this song. I thought how cool!! These people like Cat Stevens! Then I learned this is a Christian hymn written in 1931. Thank you Cat Stevens for bringing it to the rest of the world.

Yes, they started singing it at my church services too. I tried to get Stairway to Heaven played and for the church to sing it, but for some reason they wouldn't. I tried a few Bob Dylan songs, Knockin on Heaven's Door and Saved. They are considering Saved.

As many of the comments mention, Cat Stevens had so many great songs - major hits on the radio during the 70's. Often overlooked, however, is a very emotional and heartfelt song - "Sad Lisa". Cat Stevens (also known as Yusuf) gives a mesmerizing performance of this song in his 2015 concert (Vina Del Mar Festival) in Chile. As the cameras pan the audience, you will see a woman and then a man who were each moved to tears. As sensitive as you both are, you will also be moved!

"God's Recreation of a New Day."-Eleanor Farjeon Every morning when we wake up, we should give thanks and praise to All Mighty God the Father for blessing us with a beautiful world to live in. And we should cherish each and every day we live on God's green blue earth. In 1971 some 53 years ago. Cat Stevens took a 1931 Christian Hymnal written by English Author Ms. Eleanor Farjeon. And composed a beautiful melody for it titled "Morning Has Broken." Sometimes we take it for granted thinking it is a given we are going to wake up. Nothing is guaranteed in life. And it's why we should be thankful and appreciate every day we see a New Morning and a New Day. God bless you all. Florida USA.

Rick Wakeman wrote and performed the piano part in this song. In my opinion, it's the core of the whole piece. The words are from an old hymn. Its overall arrangement with Cat Steven's voice and guitar touches one's soul. From the first time I ever heard this, it's been one of my favorites of all time. It embodies the wonder and beauty of this world we live in.

Lovely hymn ❤! The correct lyrics are, "Praise for them springing, fresh from the Word." The Word, of course, being Jesus Christ. As in the Gospel of John chapter 1, verses 1-5: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

An interesting fact about this song is that Rick Wakeman, the famous keyboard player from Yes, is the piano you hear as intro, middle and outro to this song. He was a go to session player in those days and nicknamed One Take Wakeman for his ability to hear a song and accompany it with appropriate keys. I've heard Rick tell this story live, he quips that the producers played him Cat's vocal piece on tape, asked for an intro and outro (I think) or intro plus middle 8, played the song back, said it was too short for a single, so asked him for a third piano piece before he left. Rick then joked that his pay was £150 and Cat still owes him it!

This is why the arts are so important. Our societies tend to dismiss them, except transactionally, but they’re almost the only thing that is about our interior - what it FEELS like to be alive in this world. German filmmaker Wim Wenders wrote that dreams are the soul singing to itself … and I add that the arts are the soul singing out loud. We are all moved by great beauty if we open ourselves to it. Nietzsche wrote that without love, there is no art(!) And we NEED it. The great famous cave paintings are around 25,000-35,000 years old. They have also found seashells (used as cups) with dried pigments in them that are … 100,000 years old.

Merci Andree to cry and letting you speaking with naturel. À quality that been lost since some time. To see the expression of your sensibility Andree, it is like to see the light when you finally reach at last, the top of the Everest. Nothing compte from the past, the light express like it have never been like there to you. Your soul is blowed by the beauty find in this live. We lost sadly this right to exprime like we are for the real. Comparaison take to often priority over the originality. Man should not cry and woman should not lead, what a wrong constant concerning our society. Everybody should to be in right to express of himself, in the way of like he think and how he should do whenever it is. When is expression it is to exchange and share in the generosity for learning, this guy it is to work to help the world. I like to share some time with you and your wife because of to be in the expression of pure truth. Encore un fois merci 🙏 Daniel St Émile de Suffolk

When I went off to university in a strange new town, I greeted every morning with this song playing on my heart's radio. He made no bad songs, so feel free to play anything. "Peace Train" might be the timeliest. It too is essential for a complete library.

A traditional song, done excellently by Cat Stevens and Rick Wakeman on the keys. Def explore more Cat Stevens, he's so good.

If you were at school in the UK early 70s theres a good chance you would sing this during assembly before lessons. Remember it well, lovely song

It's simple but so well written. "Like the first morning". "Like the first bird" . Life on a continuum.
