A question. Let us say that someone has 1 effort and uses it to ease an attack he does. At the next round when the enemy attacks him can he use effort for his defend roll? Or he must wait for his next round and save his effort point to use it for defense?

A little late for this I guess but you can put effort in all tasks up to your Tier into rolls, so yes.
