    I'm excited to try out the Cypher System. I've been playing rpgs since D&D's beginning back in 1974. The price of the original box set was $10. I first saw the D&D game box with the faux wood grain exterior in a local hobby store (in Buffalo, NY) and wanted it immediately. Unfortunately, back in 1974, $10 was a decent chunk of change for a ten year old. It took a long time mowing and raking many lawns in my neighborhood to save up that kind of jink. When I hit the $10 mark, I went back to the hobby store. Instead of the wood grain box, there was a white box set. The owner of the store assured me that it contained the same books and rules as the original box set did, so I purchased it. After earning some more money, I later went back and got the the supplement books, Greyhawk and Blackmoor respectively. Since that time, all those years ago, I've played in many great adventures on many different rpg systems with some phenomenal DM's. I met one of your panel members, Dean Lewis, back in 1986. We've been friends ever since, and he is, hands down, the best DM I've ever had the pleasure and privilege of gaming with! His imagination and adaptability is beyond the pale! Cypher System sounds like the perfect platform for him and I can't wait to try it out with Dean at the helm. I wish all of you the greatest success!

    Thank you! GM intrusions are at times difficult for me, especially outside a roll of 1. Thank you for all the advice!

    I agree with you on the flavour of mechanics. We are playing a super game and one of my player is basically plying magneto and onslaught his him throwing a ball bearing and the mind slice is him minipulating the iron in the enemies blood.

    I think the middle of the road analogy is the right answer. I own a lot of systems and I can use things from savage worlds, world of darkness, d and d , and easily transfer them into the game. The system is so middle of the road I can add rules from other games without slowing the system. A good example is from cypher unlimited and their example of the Darkfest Dungeon translation.

    20:00 converting D&D 5e to Cypher system -> I tough that I could make new Verb but then found few that already fit the descriobtion of some spells . . . Maybe you could make Verb like "I'm lucky Adebt who likes to freeze people" who gets tier 1 to tier 6 frost like spells which require int from simple ice lance short range medium range weapon and tier 2 you would get aoe cold chilling effect slowing thous around you and freezing any water that is not carried by any creatures and so on . . . You can do so much with Verbs -> sure you will be focused in one style of play but taking something like "I'm mystical adebt who likes to mess with people" and giving him tier 2 sleep spell spending 3 int you can attempt to sleep any target ~ lvl3 you need roll of 9 or more to sleep them and so on :D ... tier 1 might be illusion spell and so on I have only read about 2 days about this Cypher System and watched videos non stop because I don't have many friends who could just play games right now and I don't like to talk with new people :( But my point is that understanding that Adjective is describing your character and example was you could make Elf, Fat and so on with bonuses. Mean while Verb gives you some theme which will be your gimmick like Control Animals lets you have minions, making "i'm stealthy explorer who controls beast" might make fun "dnd ranger build" So taking 1 element or theme of spells and tailoring 6 tiers of spells to fit it makes fun :D "I'm lucky warrior who alters worlds" tier 6 wish spell where more int you spent on the wish stronger the wish will be up to 30 int points which allows you to alter reality and physics . . . For some reason this also would have tier 1 illusion magic :^) maybe Alchemist like where you can great currency from basic materials or something . . .

    I know it's difficult for you guys to bring translations. In my case spanish. I already bought the Numenera book from Holocubierta. And you keep releasing more books, more info, more sessions but not in spanish. I'm not complaining but I hope some day your work could break the walls of language.

    Can we get GMing the Cypher System for Dummies? I own just about every book in the game and run other games but I find the setting building in Cypher System to be confusing. Basic running and playing is simple enough but building is a mess for a new GM.

    What is GM intrusion?

  • @Glanten

    @Glanten

    3 жыл бұрын

    The GM introduces a challenge or complication that might not otherwise have happened. The warrior drops their weapon; the bad guy escapes at the last moment; the enemy knocks a PC unconscious; a blinding blizzard blows across the valley; rocks start to tumble down the cliff; a firearm jams; a rope starts to fray... the GM offers the affected player 1XP and another 1XP for another player (the affected player chooses who gets the second XP). The player can refuse the GM intrusion, but they have to pay 1XP to resist it and they don't get the XP the GM was offering them. It's a way for the GM to increase the stakes, add a dramatic complication, or redirect events. In Cypher 2E there are also player intrusions which are similar and cost 1XP for a player to propose.
