Monte Cook Games

Monte Cook Games

Monte Cook Games is all about revitalizing fan passion for RPGs through high-quality, innovative games that combine sweeping visions with premium art, storytelling, and design.

The company was founded in 2012 by Monte Cook and Shanna Germain, following the record-setting Kickstarter campaign for the company’s first game, Numenera. Since then, Numenera has gone on to win the Origins Award for Best Roleplaying Game along with nine ENnie Awards, including Product of the Year. In 2014, MCG launched their second game, The Strange, which is also based on the same cypher system ruleset as Numenera.

Can we get GMing the Cypher System for Dummies? I own just about every book in the game and run other games but I find the setting building in Cypher System to be confusing. Basic running and playing is simple enough but building is a mess for a new GM.

While not my dig, I can see this game being a lot of fun for many. I'd call it a storytelling game, though, not a roleplaying game.

Ok, why didn't the perso with the phase changer simply go through the front door, then unlock it for the others? Or why not all 3 go through the back door, so as to avoid any patrols?

Good job. It's been a long time coming. However, what I don't like is that the box has folding flaps. These boxes don't hold up as well as decent starter set boxes with lids.

This is actually kind of an advertisement, not an explanation of why I would play this. The logical follow-up to this extended hype session is to show each of the key parts and how and why they work.

Used to love the game. Its dream for GM. But its unbalanced. Probably the most unbalanced TTRPG. On the end that is what always kills the game

It's nice to see you promoting the system again. I've picked up most of your published stuff and a number of the pdfs (although I'm not really a fan of electronic media). I lhope to start seeing more of these videos, maybe exploring your white books a bit more in depth. Are you planning on doing anything further with "The Origin"? It's a weird, yet interesting setting/system. I'm thinking of combining it with Planebreaker.

Love the contents, the books look fantastic & the portrait art on the character sheets is a strike of genius ... But I'm not a fan of the tuck box... I'd much prefer a box with a lid like Stealing Stories for the Devil

I've been playing numenera since highschool, since it was just numenera, not destiny and discovery. This system has become the favorite in 3 separate groups I've played/GMed with! We have our campaign finale next weekend!!

I hope you guys can change the box. A box with lid is far more useful and easier to store the booklets, papers and dice in. I even remember playing the old Gamma World and using the box lid as a dice tray. The box type that you have is just begging to be thrown away.

I also strongly suspect that it has a filler panel in it as well - much like the Numenera Starter Kit does - which I have really come to dislike businesses doing.

One of the best game systems out there. In the space of a couple of hours you can create a brand new setting from scratch. Its easy to run and within minutes players can quickly grasp the game rules.

"Cephyr System", is that how you pronounce it? ...nah, never heard of it... What I want is to play a game, set a billion years in the future, where many great civilisations have come and gone, and now the world is littered with the ruins and leftovers of those prior civilisations...as is space... Or how about a podcast being adapted to a roleplaying game? Could you imagine that!!! Like...what would you even DO? OMG! Even doing it TWICE! That would be pretty nuts! 🤣😆😁🙃

My only MINOR quibble with the list is character creation. It IS intuitive, but there is a lot of page flipping so I’m not sure I’d call it “fast.” FUN, but not fast.

cool presentation, y'all. your art is always the highest quality. wish you'd focus on expanding and diversifying the available instant adventures -- IMO, perhaps the best supplementary product for RPGs that anyone makes, anywhere. my players switch worlds every six months or so, and i've got more settings books than i'll ever read or play in. but we're starved for adventures. TSR used to have scores of adventures and only a handful of settings. MCG has done the opposite. i haven't even cracked open the books for the last 3 settings that i helped kickstart. they just sit in a pile.
