41:54 Yeah, but that movie that concluded the series sucked. It was the same with "Return to Zombie Island" where the people said "it never happened and it was all in the gang's head". It's such bullshit writing and ruins the original material. I'm waiting for them to ruin The Witch's Ghost! You just wait!

The only time that I never hated commercials was when I watched those bumpers back in the day. Made me, as a kid at the time, feel like these characters were real like they were in Who framed Roger Rabbit universe/film. Nowadays Cartoon Network is mostly doing LIVE ACTION type shows (last time I checked) like its counter parts Nickelodeon and Disney are doing.

Thank you Nate summing up the emotions of the entire Scooby-Doo fandom to that show called Velma.
I loved the HBO bumpers with the model city. My favorite CN bumper was probably the simple highway shots they showed during Adult Swim when Bleach was airing.
I still can't get over the fact that Johnny Bravo was a teenager.
I didn’t realize that Asian guy from the convenience store bumper was the voice actor that played Uncle from Jackie Chan Adventures and Monk Gyatso from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
@FurubaGirl08
Жыл бұрын
Yup his voice is pretty iconic and that's Saburo (Sab) Shimono :)
Don’t worry Nate. I have all these bumpers crammed in my head too. The price of having a photographic memory.
This just reminded me of two of my favorite Cartoon Network bumpers that were not featured in Nostalgia Critic's video: first, among the many musical numbers they featured, was the Jabberjaw alternative-rock video where all the characters were running around the contents of someone's lunch box because they were the featured cartoon on said aluminum lunch box... & second- the Cartoon Network questionnaire! I could recite every question & response word for word! "Cartoon Network: You've got questions... that's, um... understandable." "Why are the Smurfs blue?" "WE'RE NOT! WE'RE GREEN! Adjust your TV!" as the Smurf in question adjusts what would've been an old-timey television set (with the dials on the front, unbeknownst to most kids of the 90s) & changes to a weird vermillion-esque green hue... ahhh, classic lol.
For anyone wondering, Thundarr the Barbarian was created under the supervision of Joe Ruby and Ken Spears (The original creators of Scooby-Doo) through their own studio, Ruby-Spears Enterprises. Eventually, said studio would be owned by Warner Bros along with Hanna-Barbera. Sadly, both died in 2020 within three months of each other - Mr. Ruby died of natural causes on August 26 at the age of 87 and Mr. Spears died of complications from Lewy body dementia on November 6 at age 82.
It's a shame the sheer amount of bumper content that becomes lost media. These were meant to only play for a few months at most, sometimes down to a single day for a special event, then never again. A surprising amount of budget and talent went into these, so letting them disappear seems counterproductive. They should be presevered alongside the main channel content as pieces of history.
20:06 the way nate mentioned about these bumbers showing characters from different shows interacting with eachother in their off the clock /spare time it makes a lot of sense. It reminds of a a couple of Omakes at the post credit endings of episodes 121 and 142 in naruto shippuden -sakura’s way to say “naruto” and hinata’s way to say “naruto”. In hinata way to say naruto omake. It showed a voice acting session had wrapped up for the day and we see naruto, saskue, kakashi, hinata, kisame, orachimaru steping out of the voice acting room and tsuande told hinata that the director wanted her to say naruto’s name in several ways of emotions while front of the rest of the characters. And on top of it does not affect the main naruto storyline at all. Its pretty much a gag
38:13 Plus Johnny did have successes. Hell, they confirmed in the show he wasn’t a virgin anymore when the volcano rejected him as a virgin sacrifice. It’s just that he strikes out with nearly everyone we see on the show outside of what was it, a werewolf or something? Plus, the whole point of the show was showing how his behavior would get his ass kicked.

This is why Johnny Bravo should get a revival as a Adult Swim series.
I remember the powerhouse bumpers, which were color coded according to the time of day or night. if I remember correctly, mornings were green, noon and afternoon was yellow, evenings were a light blue and night time was either deep blue, indigo or a light black.
@angelinacamacho8575

Yellow was morning, green was noon, blue was for the evening, and black was for night time. Purple was used for action cartoons (sometimes grey) and red was for a special.

When you talk about your favorite moments from these bumpers and then said moments happen right after, those are the best. 😂
Love the old cartoon network bumpers, circles was hilarious with just Fred and Barney breaking the illusion

first time around, i flipped about the video to see if megas XLR's bumpers got a mention at all, since these days it feels like the collective internet is trying to just phase out the idea that the show even existed to begin with. Definitely glad I saw it mentioned around the 50 minute mark, because damnit, that show deserves some LOVE.
One thing about the 90s , I think was the bumpers for networks. For example, Nick at nite had some fantastic ones
I just wanna briefly correct Nate by saying they didn't nuke Toonami in favor of Miguzi. Miguzi and Toonami basically coexisted for a while. Heck, Miguzi died off before Toonami got the boot in around 2007/2008. Then after that, CN Real happened and...Yeah...That was a dark age for Cartoon Network.

The Scooby Doo project: Book of zoinksness
The Flintstones marketing cigarettes may be considered taboo by today’s standards, but people forget that originally, cartoons weren’t meant for just little kids. They were for everyone to enjoy, both young and old. There was no specific age demographic for animation in its early days.
Cartoon Network seriously had the best bumpers ever seriously.
Nate going on a tangent about remembering certain things about old Cartoon Network shows, I was just sitting there patting my computer, saying "It's okay, Nate, It's okay!".
R.I.P. Primal Screen, the Atlanta, Georgia based studio that animated the pre CN City bumpers and interstitials (1995-2024).
Gonna be honest: i though the Powerpuff Girls/Justice League bumper was talking about how much better written the girls were but still looked to Wonder Woman as a idol. Only now since Doug pointed it out do i see it. I was both a smart kid but things still flew over my head.
45:10 DAMMMMMMMN, DAPHNE! Why you gonna go for the jugular like that?
16:23 it’s like when they did kid nation and chad joked that one of the town rewards was a tv
Flintstones had those ads because it was a prime time show aimed at adults as well as kids. It was the simpsons before the simpsons. Jetsons, top cat, johnny quest, bugs bunny show (theatre shorts with new bumpers), mr magoo show (same) were all prime time shows when they first came out. As for scooby he had tons of shows before 90s. (not in order)_ 1. Where are you 2. scooby-doo movies 3. scooby scrappy show 4. scooby-doo dynomutt hour 5. scooby richie rich show 6. scooby puppy hour 7. new scooby and scrappy show 8. new scooby mysteries 9. 13 ghosts of scooby-doo 14. laff a lympics 15. pup named scooby 16. scooby doo show/ new scary funnies--rereuns of other shows with a new intro. He was on dyomutt episodes also and was on the superstar 10 tv movies.
You guys lost the video for the second half of the reaction. Have any of you guys ever watched Thundarr The Barbarian? If not, or if it’s been so long that you’ve forgotten most of it, maybe you can do a series of videos of your reaction to watching Thundarr. To me, it’s my all time favourite Saturday morning cartoon. It’s like taking the best parts of Conan The Barbarian, Star Wars, Planet of the Apes, and The Road Warrior, mixing them all together, and turning them into an animated series made for kids. Maybe invite Mica along to watch it with you guys. He’s such a big fan of all of those franchises that he’s likely to really enjoy it. Think about it.
This disappeared for me in the middle of watching. Thanks for uploading it y’all.
Thank you Nate with your mid finger to Velma, “FUCK THAT SHOW!”
This was a nice nostalgia trip. That developed joke went woosh 🙆🏿♂ over my head as a kid. I thought Doug was gonna bring up the one where the two dudes see the power puff girls and being older you can clearly see that the dudes are suppose to be high 🤣 🤣.
Aww, don't feel an ounce of shame, guys. Whenever I remember stuff like this, I feel proud whenever I click on one of those top 10 videos of tv shows and movies everyone forgot about only to say "I remember that!" 😊
I made a joke when dexter lost Velma to Johnny bravo, I said “Don’t Worry you’ll soon get one from the powerpuff girls from what people ship” and I’m not kidding THERE IS
Oh, I remember that Cartoon Network character president marathon. Bugs Bunny was 3rd place, the Powerpuff Girls was 2nd, and Scooby-Doo was 1st. It kinda upset me at the time, because Bugs was always my favorite.
The atom ant music video felt like a drug trip I didn’t even know that was a cartoon
Gundam Wing and G Gundam on Toonami. WHOSE WITH ME????
when I first saw this, a core memory was revived in my mind
Do you guys remember when Cartoon Network would make their own version of "The Big Game"?
34:55 I think you’re thinking of Pfish and Chip. Those were What a Cartoon! shorts made in 1996 (I think, I’m not sure).
36:30 I don't think they ever mentioned how old those kids were.
36:19 from what I looked up Dexter was 8 years old, and Velma was about 16.. So yeah.. 🤢

Thankfully they weren't even dating. It was a one-sided attraction on Dexter's part. And from one episode I remember from Dexter's Lab he is into older women.
And his iconic line is (One More Thing)
Does anyone else remember the Big Game sports events that were Road Runner vs. Coyote for the Super Bowl?
“Blair Witch is a Horror Film” Me: which is funny to think about now since one of The Gang is The Ghostface Killer (is it right Shaggy Roger!)

The bumpers were the main thing that kept me on Cartoon Network instead of Nickelodeon, before shows like Adventure Time and The Amazing World of Gumball

"Their just cartoons, it doesn't even matter" Tell that to Twitter
I'm not positive, but I think the old Chinese man in the convenience store is the actor who voiced (uncle) in the jackie chan adventure tv show.
51:12 I’ve had days like that too. 😁
Well actually Zane got his water useful, in The Comic Wonder Woman was taking a Bath and Zane was The Bath Water (and probably got murdered by an Angry Amazon Warrior)
That shop owner sounds like Uncle from Jackie Chan Adventures! Edit: Wait, that IS him!
37:10 Bravo Dooby-Doo. 😂 I remember that!
All the times Nate questioned why something is stuck in his brain. 16:25, 22:11, 51:17
23:39 Actually he sounds like Uncle from Jackie Chan Adventures cuz that is him.
The Punisher skull on Nate's shirt looked annoyed throughout the video.
Dude CN city was fucking peak along with the bumper's and you cannot tell me otherwise.
Remember Crash Box on HBO. Bro, that shit was like MAD on crack 😂

I love the shows of Cartoon Network and Toonami.
37:30 speaking of the Johnny x scooby doo thing watching as a kid this completely over my head but now I finally get now but the episode goes on and to a point where everyone has to split up as the gang does and instead of Fred saying who to go with who it’s Daphne that says and at first she says Fred and shaggy go to the basement but before she finishes Fred interrupts her and says daphne and gives her the eye like “but me and you girl” and she changes her mind to go to the basement with Fred. Like how’d that get pass everyone lol

Like most, i love the golden age of 90s cartoon network and i did fall off with it as i grew older into adulthood. But i was surprised at their later entries. I would watch ben 10 alot. And even later, adventure time, regular show, steven universe, gumball and heck even uncle grandpa. All really solid shows. I was surprised CN is still going strong at that point. Idk the state of CN now since the shows i mentioned already ended. But i hope they are showing cartoons that kids today will talk about fondly as they grow older... F*** teen titans go though. Fun fact: that pulp fiction bumper is actually casey kassem's last time voicing shaggy before matthew lilliard took on the role.
From watching “Scoobynatural”, we know that Velma has a thing for guys with broad shoulders. Which is why she was so thirsty for Sam. So I guess that also explains why she was crushing hard on Johnny in that crossover episode.
By the way they are actually bringing Cartoon Cartoon Fridays back
My Cartoon Network Favourites: Ben 10 (I watch all away through from The Classic Ben 10 to Ben 10 Omniverse, and I stop watching it when they reboot the thing instead have a Ben 10000 Cartoon which that would be awesome, they technically was building it up to see because Young Ben met his Future-self and you see Ben 10K’s villains like The Cyber-Rhino and The Future Doctor Animal) Teen Titan (Teen Titan Go can go to hell) The Grim Adventure of Billy and Mandy Ed, Ed’d N Eddy KND (Kids Next Door) (Crossover) The Grim Adventure of KND
Having obscure cartoon knowledge is great. For me that's anime and a little thing known as diacon 4 an animation made on a piece of 4mill reel for a convention
The water Wonder Twin doesn't have a lame power, he has lame presentation and power use. There are no small roles, only small actors. And for the record, Aquman's been cool since at least the 70's. Even if Mamoa is A cool Aquman, he's not THE cool Aquaman.
At least he never mentioned CN Live. That was a shitty time for Cartoon Network, and I was graduating high school that year.
Love these old bumpers
Cartoon cartoon Fridays cartoon theater all the bumpers and groovies is what these streaming services are totally missing. I’ll say it again Cartoon Network was an experience. It wasn’t just about the cartoons but the overall vibe it would give you. Those in between bumpers and groovies totally made the shows much better. It hyped you up before you got to the show and even after the show it would hype you for the next show. It’s so hard to watch the shows I grew up watching without all the extra stuff. It now feels soulless. I still think that Cartoon Network should make their own streaming service but with experience in mind. I want to watch cartoons in a block format. Where I watch those cartoons I grew up watching but they still have the in between bumpers and groovies but also the option to watch cartoon theater and cartoon cartoon Fridays.
35:15 That's Megas XLR, Nick
He forgot to mention the jabberjaw music video
Does anyone else have a memory about an old Milkman, on Cartoon Network Friday Nights, that had a segment where he tried a piece of stinky cheese?
Tis a damn shame how Cartoon Network is dying. Only reason it’s still afloat is cause of adult swim
