This is hands down the funniest episode to date. I definitely think there should be more “children/family” movies reviewed just cause I love the roast of them. I also wish Kelsey could have experienced this cinematic masterpiece.

The opening is a masterpiece, the whole 1st act is good, the middle-end is there and the ending-ending slaps. I love the scene where they count cars together.

Re: the cars being actors, have you guys seen the toy story 2? Because there’s bloopers and the toys are very clearly actors!

Love this and Cars justice! Will say I think Up’s point of escapism to deal with trauma is a huge part of the second act and people kinda miss that point that all the zaniness is contrasted by these drag you back to reality lines (Russell talking about his mom, Carl coming to terms with it just being a house etc) but the whacky hijinx are there to contrast with the true emotional beats to make them pop. But also we stan Cars!

My brother was so obsessed with cars that my parents bought him a McQueen TV and both of us watched movies because it had the thing you put DVD in. Of course he had toys, a blanket ect but man that TV was awesome.

this is a very small note i want to make about the sushi thing, there are small organisms that live at the bottom of the ocean that consume heat and could survive on this planet even without the sun. with that knowledge it's possible that with the downfall of mankind and the life on earth re-populating with what we left behind, those organisms could still survive and do the whole cambrian explosion all over again making it very possible that the fish we know today could still exist in the cars world if the wall-e/bugs life theory is true remember: sharks are older than trees and there are more trees on earth than there are stars in our galaxy

Are we gonna just skip over mater living in a CAR JUNK YARD?! Like he’s literally surrounded by the corpses of other cars…

I watch this movie nearly every day with my toddler. Never been more prepared for an episode.

The uncanny valley of the Cars Cinematic Universe goes on in the second movie. The Popemobile is represented in there along with the actual in world equivalent of the Pope, implying Cars Catholicism, but on top of that, the Popemobile has the bulletproof glass casing around the Pope car, implying the assassination attempt of Pope John Paul I I happened in the CCU. IIRC there’s also implications that a Cars 9/11 happened as well. This is unironically the best franchise.

There's a route 66 article saying that a lot of the places & characters in radiator springs are based off of actual places & people you could see on route 66. The cozy cone is based on blue swallow motel & the Wigwam motel. Etc.

I lived on Route 66 as a kid when Cars came out and have since moved so I appreciate Cars for the setting and the Route 66 love and it's nostalgic for me at this point, lol. I know the sequels soured things, but I feel like the first Cars movie doesn't deserve the reputation it's gotten since. Bless you, Shane, for your amazing suspension of disbelief and your enthusiasm for Cars. 😂

While I would not call Cars the BEST Pixar movie, buts it's a lot better than I remembered! I may have been in a ✨mood✨ when I watched it but I actually teared up a little at the end, also shout-out to the bugs that are small flying cars

I have to agree with Shane, Cars is better than up. I barely remember Up but I saw Cars many times. Yes, the intro to Cars as so cool. Now I wanna rewatch the movie

with the hold that Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., Ratatouille, Cars, and Wall-E had on me as a kiddo in the time that they came out, my heart is so happy to see them enjoy these movies this much! my absolute favorite thing about Pixar movies is that they hardly *ever* talk down to kids or infantilize them with their storytelling; they tell nuanced, complex stories that are able to resonate with children and adults alike (in the body of children's/family film, no less) and they have yet to be met by the rest of the industry IMO.

Wasn't Michael Keaton in Toy Story 3, as Ken? So he did make his way back to a Pixar movie.

Thinking of a truck trailer like a backpack or purse makes the most sense to me. They're just very large and can accommodate other people..

Also it feels like a weird fever dream to listen to the synopsis from Zach of something I see and talk about with my 2 year old every day.

I had no idea that Cars was not a well received/popular Pixar movie. It is awesome - and it can still be awesome and other Pixar movies can also be awesome! Like it’s all good for it all to be great lol

Planes is about a crop duster wanting to become a racer. It is a part of the Cars universe. Also in Planes there is a German car, if I am recalling correctly, that is a car that can fly as well.

The whole conversation about the anatomy of the cars reminds me of that one Mike's Mic video 😂

I've been a cars fan since I was 3 I'm 19 now It holds up so well its such a good movie and the animation is still amazing. One of my favorite movies of all time

i didn't know there was this big of a controversy if Car was great or not. I just remember it as a young girl watching it with my mom and loving it so much. My mom was even obsessed with the songs at that time. Cars is one great movie.

The way you said "He is held...PRISONER." made me laugh so hard, but I had to hold it in on the bus

If you want Cars universe determinism, watch Planes; he is a crop duster plane that becomes a racer, and the sequel to the first Planes movie is also spectacular IMO. There are also a couple of Cars nods in it, I definitely recommend them!

This was a phenomenal episode. Such a bonus to have Shane on! Also, literally squealed to hear Zach talk about how hot Paul Newman is and that he makes great pink lemonade, my #1 Newman’s Own item.

The toy story universe messes me up more than the cars universe as far as implications of the world building go honestly

I have to agree with Shane 100%. I have seen Cars about 100 times. My younger brother was 6 years old when it came out and he was OBSESSED. The DVD was played on repeat in my house for years.

Disney basically has a deal that you cant die there on site, they are always designated as died in route, so they can say there have been no deaths there. I used to work there and I had to deal with several situations that were big deals like that. Dont get me wrong, Disney took care of everything for people in these situations, but it was the wording they needed for face.

My first experience with stereo audio was listening to the cars soundtrack with headphones on using my little MP3 player as a child, I just remember Cheryl crow coming on being like “WHOA I CAN HEAR IT FROM ONE SIDE BUT NOT THE OTHER AND IT SWITCHES” and as a a small child that was life changing

I watched cars really young as a child and loved it, but then Cars 2 came out and totally ruined the whole thing for me. BUT THEN, I started working with kids with autism, and one of the kids would only calm down when watching Cars, so I watched Cars leik over 50 times with this kid, and that's when I fell back in love with the charm. It's just a simple, beautiful movie about cars. What more do you really need? It's got funny moments, also super touching moments, great music, and beautiful art. Now whenever I think of cars, I just have fond memories watching it as a child and with the kids I worked with.

I just re-listened to the Speed Racer episode, because I enjoy watching Shane defend movies he loves in this context...so much fun! I've been waiting for this episode for so long!!! I am a Cars stan, and will defend its soundtrack with my LIFE. It is a JAMMER. Those opening chords of the Sheryl Crow song??song??? Absolutely perfection.

now just wait until they see the deleted scenes... that shit will blow their MINDS.

Oh noooo, not the auction being the first topic of discussion 😭😭😂 I'm in two The Matrix servers in discord and it was a heated topic for some time and knowing I'm nestled somewhere in Southeast Asia with my Southeast Asian currency, I can only CRY because even if I'm selling my entire house -- myself and my cat included, it wouldn't guarantee I could bid any of the things I want (also Lilly mentioned it as "spring cleaning" like it was nothing and I'm-- EXCUSE ME???) Also, I think Jupiter Ascending would be a great episode. Two filmmakers deemed visionary creating YOUNG ADULT FICTION, I'd love to hear your take! And speaking of Cars, if one can look past the antromorphic talking cars and everything, it's actually a really good sports movie. I especially love the good sportsmanship in the end. Cars 2 is actually fun.

So, if anyone was wondering, I think (from my unreliable memory) that the way they were explaining how Cars fits into the Pixar Theory isn't totally correct. The cars are from a time that there weren't any humans on Earth because they were all in space and the machines took over. The cars were previously owned by actual people and slowly through time gained the memories of their owners and pretty much started acting like them.

this movie came out the year my little brother was born, which means i was forced to watch this whole franchise on a loop throughout my preteen years lmao. while annoying, i never understood why the first movie specifically was clowned as bad as it apparently is. would love for y’all to bring shane back and review the other movies !
