Women didn't shake men's hands, so to shake her's hand would make them equal (so to speak). Even Pen is shocked about the action, and asks "you want me to shake your hand"... like a man would? It's the beginning of him seeing her more than Little Miss Wallflower. It's giving her respect that would have only been given to the male sex.

So excited to watch your reactions! As soon as I saw Colin's head tilt in the carriage clip, it reminded me of Anthony. In an interview, Luke mentioned watching Jonathan's performance during season 2. I would love to know if it was an intentional choice made by Luke.

Ok I have a theory, I haven't read the books but know a lot of passages. For the end of episode 4, I think Lord.D proposes to Pen, but she rejects him because she is still very much in love with Colin (and first kiss scene earlier that confused them both?) . OR Lord.D does not propose to her because he understood that she was in love with Colin. In both cases, maybe she's having some kind of discomfort, too much emotion, maybe her mother is yelling at her or something, because I feel like 2 or 3 people are helping her to get into the carriage and Colin arrives totally panicked, maybe he's worried, or just surprised that she's refused. In the images where they are both in the carriage, we can clearly see that Colin's tie and shirt are undone... And Luke explained in an interview that he had played an angry scene where he had melted into tear because of fatigue and the director had asked him to do it again like that SO, I think Colin gets with Pen in the carriage, to have a chaotic conversation filled with innuendo and unsaid, where they admit, then kiss, but Pen rejects him and knows that he hates Lady.W, so she confesses her true identity to him, or Colin understands it alone, but he is furious, surprised, lost, admiring and hurt at the same time, and it's so full of emotions that he just ends up breaking down, and they both release all the tension in this famous scene with fog on the windows like in Titanic and CUT. End of part one 👁👄👁

Yeah, your theory sounds very much like what I imagine to happen. Some fan theories sound to far fetched and complicated, others are too perfect and "easy". The writers need to keep the viewers engaged and want to do service to the fans while also not seem to be too lazy. Anyway, what I wanted to say: I had the same idea😊

I feel like episode 4 will end with them in the carriage where Colin confesses his love for Penelope and they makeout but he refers to how Whistledown will write about this whole scenario and Penelope stops him while he looks confused like in the sneek peak and it ends as they both continue breathing heavily and staring as Penelope tells him that she is Lady Whistledown! Episode 5 begins with them staring at each other in the carriage and the heated argument between the two happens! They get all hot and bothered while arguing and continue making out until they reach the Featherington house! Leading to the Marriage proposal and meeting the Featherington family scene happens.

What I like about this season is that we saw the Duke at a brothel and Anthony many times bedding the opera singer. But we have never seen Colin even touch a woman. He refused to kiss Marina and he is going to be deflowered in our eyes at least this season. He is not a rake like the other two, he doesn't have a reputation. Seeing him lose control will be great. AH! And I hope they keep the scene where she asks him to kiss her as a favor, because that's when Colin's undoing begins. In the book it happens after he wounds himself with the letter opener and she tends to his wound (at least I think so), so... give us Colin spiraling down in lust, since we know he already knows her as a person.

Ok hear me out, I kind of predict that Debling notices the agonized glances between Pen and Colin because they still interact quite a bit at the events that Debling and Pen attend. He probably realizes they’re very close and when Pen expects a proposal, Debling instead says he’s noticed their closeness and he’s worried she isn’t fully committed to their courtship going any further; basically rejecting her. She leaves the ball in tears and Colin hoofs it to ask her what happened, carriage scene ensues. They’ve mentioned this season also has a romcom vibe so I’m wondering if they get to Pen’s house and part 1 ends with Colin saying “well I’m proposing obviously” and she trips and falls out of frame in utter shock; end of episode 😅 I JUST NEEDED TO SHARE THIS SOMEWHERE, god SOMEONE HELP I’m so excited it’s agony
