I was one of those people who were reading these books as they were being published ( way back in the early 2000's). By end of book 3 I had a hunch it was Pen but man the reveal was so satisfying when it happened...

Thank you! I did not much like “book Collin.” He was too domineering, possessive, as well as oblivious…so, so oblivious (to the point of being annoying). Resigning the post as Lady Whistledown was foreshadowing in the book. (I hope they don’t have her give it up on the show…just prove Whistledown is not Cressida. Maybe Eloise will and that’s how the mend their relationship). I also suspect that she wrote the “I would retire” and pushed/allowed the “kiss” as a last ditch effort to get him to think of her differently. He does…she just doesn’t think he does at that point, and she gave up (or gave up 99% of her fantasy in the book after a similar incident). I hope, on the show, she truly seems to finally fully let go of him after that, then steps into herself and self confidence as a grown woman (at which point he notices she isn’t looking at *him* quite the same…then starts chasing her and so forth. I hope it’s about confidence, not changes in appearance, that gives her more of a glow. Yes she got new clothes and new hairstyle and that’s fairly, but it was mainly weight in the book…something else that bothered me. It was described as “baby fat”). Anyhow, at the end of the book, you get the feeling that she often wears the pants in the relationship (but he doesn’t realize it-she allows him think he does). Benedict, and that devil may care attitude and shit-stirring smirk, has always been my favorite (although Gregory is soooo super sweet in his).

I hated that she made Penelope “fat” in the books but Penelope was only 10stone, which is equivalent to 140pounds and then loses like 30 pounds before he gets back. I rolled my eyes when he spoke about curves on a 110 pound girl. I’m so glad they made her actually fat in the show. I feel more represented and I’m so tired of love stories making the main character lose weight before she is worthy of love.

In the books Penelope appearance actually changes by her second year but the damage was done to her reputation. It is mentioned that she wanted to wait until the following year as Eloise was doing. No one let's her forget how insignificant she was her first year :(

I’m betting it was mostly Cressida and her mom’s fault, it was said in the book that Cressida always bullied her every year and basically got others that were with her to do the same and then there’s those terrible yellow colored dresses that her mom forced upon her which didn’t flatter her, the featherington colors certainly aren’t for every featherington

I didn't like it especially if you compare it to the overall series how she is the only heroine whose weight/figure was made a point of concern. Even her "baby fat" wasn't a bad thing from the perspective of Kate in Book 2 who said her biggest issue was her mother forcing colors that suit her. The fact that her weight-loss was important to note and attempted to be disuaded by Colin saying he likes more robust(?) women (not the right term but basically saying he doesn't mind women with a figure but by this point she was a more skinnier version of who she was) is still sour writing.

That's true. She said she is still curvy and will always have her curves. She will never look like the other ladies of the ton. It didn't sound like she even lost that much weight. I don't think her weight was even a factor. Colin never seemed to notice and if I remember right, he loves her curves once they are married, especially because it makes her large chested (referring to the mirror scene).

This is the first video I saw that adequately called out the book to me. I didn't read the books when they came out, but god reading them when I did I was shocked at how the characterization gets overlooked for some characters. Colin had some random anger issues that never was addressed (a recurring theme for the sake of masculinity) but that being said, I am HOPING the show does Colin better which they seem to be doing.

The ending sorta does make sense because they figured the ton probably won’t attack her once she’s officially a Bridgerton and has the backing of the Bridgerton family, most importantly the Vicount and the Duke and Duchess and then there’s Lady Danbury who everyone respects and fears and is apparently Penelope’s #1 fan and fairy godmother during this season that takes place in the book so with all them backing her and clapping for her, they kinda don’t give the ton much other choice then to suck it up, swallow their pride and clap along or make many powerful enemies.

@@dilsedesi1704 No, I don’t think anyone can really be sure of anything. We are all just speculating. I didn’t necessarily expect it but at the same time, the Queen is fickle in some ways so she may change her mind and once she discovers that it was a teenager behind it (we forget Pen is a teenager), she may be a little impressed. I don’t know but I don’t actually expect her to torture Pen too much. Also, I didn’t expect them to not reveal it since we won’t necessarily keep these actors too long, although I hope we do, they are great. I just mean that they used that kind of a moment for K&A. I had forgotten about the scene of them dancing and the queen kind of just giving her approval to shut everybody up when they started talking about them. Basically, she saved them from scandal so it would seem a bit repetitive if Pen was revealed, as lady Whistleddown and the queen simply gave her approval and everybody yet again let it go.

Amazing breakdown of the book. I love that they help each other grow and be better together. The friends to lovers always holds a special place in my heart because there’s such a connection that the couple shares vs someone who has to get to know each other from the start don’t have and can’t ever really have. Colin and Pen’s relationship is both sweet and sexy which is a romantic book plus to have. Also, the fact that they are both writers and are such good friends adds layers to their connection that’s so cute. I agree I do like that the book shows flaws of jealousy, insecurity and fear within their relationship. It’s a realistic thing that shows true human flaws. I’m excited for the shows portrayal of this story, I loved the book and I love Polin so this season is going to be amazing to watch unfold.

She said something like, "tomorrow, they'll remember to be angry," and both her and Colin weren't seen for days. I find the last part pretty funny, but it was acceptable for me. I was so down for this book when I first read the series like fifteen years ago, after loving Penelope in the first two books. I think I was a little taken aback by Colin’s sudden anger and then I was absolutely enraged when he outed Penelope at the ball without consulting her. (That ruined the book for me TBH.) However, before that ending, I did love their banter and I loved that Penelope was able to be a role model for Colin. Loved the line about her giving him “Pen money”. I was also disappointed in Pen for not telling Eloise she was LWD way sooner - their friendship also seemed like an afterthought considering Eloise apparently ran away during that ball. (Don’t get me started on all the dub-con that JQ had a massive thing for in the early 2000s, even in my fave book with Kate and Anthony!)

The fandom is huge & a good portion aren’t book readers, so if they had waited even a year to do Polin, then the viewership would still be very high for S3. I worry he S6+ it’s going to drop & we may not get every Bridgerton’s love story! I’m also wondering if Francisca is going to replace Daphne’s position this season & maybe that’s how they will introduce her & get the fans to be excited for her season?!

    @@nikkydalby7126 I really recommend reading the books to see that each of siblings has their own colour. They have different personalities and stories of finding love that's so beautiful. For the show they took creative liberties but the core stays the same. I was surprised too, for S3 to be with Polin in the show, but it made sense as viewers already got to know them for two seasons. It allows to grow even more momentum for the future seasons where we gonna have more of new cast introduced (Sophie we're waiting for you!!). Also Shonda is running 21st season of grey's anatomy so we good haha Bridgerton is massive and very popular, I'm convinced for 5 seasons for sure. Six would be a blessing (I love Franchel so deeply, their story touched me the most). For 7 & 8 - a lot of time will pass till that moment so who knows. But show for sure is not gonna get any less popular, it's growing fandom and recognition with each release (QC included!) so we shouldn't be worried. We just need to wait and that's honestly the hardest part ;;

I love the book it’s one of my favorites of the series but I really really hope they fix Pen & EL relationship/friendship in the book because I didn’t like how they they made their fight in season two like in the book you can feel they have stronger bond in a way so I hope that will be fixed for the show As for Colin & Pen; I love them in the book but o hope they take out the kinda jealousy of her accomplishment as LW from the show or at least don’t make it a big deal that drags on because it did annoy me a bit in the book not gonna lie That all said I forever love how chaotic and unhinged Colin is in the book it was so funny and I hope in season three he will be that unhinged too lmao Honestly all in all I feel they will do the romance better in the show like they will refine it in a way. The only thing that really stresses me out a little because I can’t predict it is how the show will deal with the whole LW thing I hope they do it well

Nooo Colin already had a lot less character development and focus in the book compared to Penelope (for being part of the BRIDGERTON series it was very Penelope focused) if they take away his jealousy, they take away his flaw, and that just makes for a bland and boring character imo!!

I have an irrational fear that the 'drama' surrounding the engagement is going to be thay theyre going to have Portia witness the carriage moment (in lieu of the Kate and Anthony bee sting) and force the two to get married. I know they cant introduce Felicity at random, which maybe is why new character Araminta is around, but im so scared theyre going to force Polin to wed instead of giving them the ultimate "this is who I choose" moment.

It may be a bit of a spoiler but that Araminta sounds like someone from Benedict’s book so if she is from his story then she will likely not have any way to trouble our Pollin ship in this season.

I read Romancing Mr Bridgerton at least once a year since I started reading the Bridgerton books in the 2010s. It's my top 1 in the entire series and related works. I'm kind of mad we won't have some of the more chaotic/iconic moments from the book in the show 😂 sad that they changed a lot for the show but I'm also ready to get down with whatever they come up with 😂

Do you think they’ll keep Colin’s temper in S3? It kind of baffled me how angry he got, how he gripped her hard when he was mad, that sort of thing. I’ve heard that male aggression is a bit of a staple in romance novels, I guess I haven’t seen Colin angry so I’m a bit worried of how it’ll be done 😅

in this specific case, when i read the book i thought of it as it pen was the one who first asked colin to kiss her, and he knew that he was her first and only kisses, so he knows she needs some time to react to it, essentially all of their kisses in the book happen when you can tell they’re both feeling a connection rather than him just kissing her out of nowhere and he gives her some time to get used to it, but maybe in other cases you’re right it could be a bad thing

I read it fast so I may have missed something (and honestly didn’t pay attention to numbers) but thought she just lost weight but was still “soft” and “curvy” and not the fashionable body weight/shape. I may have been projecting some though, as she starts out 15 and losing/rearranging weight between then and 26 is common. I was def overweight in highschool and though I was never made fun of for it, being the 2000s, I felt fat. Even after growing into it around 18, I wasn’t “skinny” so I thought I was fat… and looking back at those pics is kind of crazy now. So I know I struggle with that and I’m glad they didn’t have any weight loss in the show (especially with the lack of time jump and ages), but I was surprised how “seen” I felt in this book from a body perspective. Given the general discourse I thought I’d feel put off by it instead. But while I struggle to find places I feel represented, I am more “chubby, soft, and curvy” and generally don’t suffer from external fat phobia comments from society so much as internalized, so I recognize I’m not the target demographic for this conversation. But I do kinda feel lost in the in between sometimes so wanted to put the thoughts out there. Tl;Dr I related more than I thought to pen and her described body type in this book. Especially felt to me like it was as much her growing up and into herself than any concerted weight loss and I don’t remember Colin ever really making a point about her weight specifically in terms of her attractiveness either way. But it didn’t feel like a major point of the story, could’ve been left out completely, and was the right call for the show.

I just listened to the book on yt and I liked most of the book. I didnt hate it as much as everyone else mostly because its a period piece. Man back then and now are like that. He was way too jealous. ❤ I hope they don't make the TV colin and angry like the book Colin because it doesn't really fit the jealous does the envious does but the angry it just doesn't. Except for you know when he finds out you know about Pen. I get why you would be angry at that point but this is because of a kiss he shouldn't have got mad. LOL he totally stalked her, following her to the church. 😂 They fought alot. Porsche couldn't understand that Colin would ever want Penelope. He eas so annoyed. Lol. Didnt blame him. I didn't even know there was a fourth daughter in the TV show because I swear I didn't even hear them mention another girl. So it would be definitely interesting if they show her eventually. I'd rate the book 4 stars.

I found it so offensive in this book and in season 2 with Anthony. So the only reason you are acting respectful by offering marriage after ruining/sullying a woman’s virtue (however you want to put it) is because they come from wealth? So if they’re poor, they can go kick rocks…I can’t.

The book overdid the part where he first notices her even after so long of their being friends. I mean come on, this is so stupid. In series you can see that he genuinely enjoys his friendship with pen and he acknowledges that again and again. But in books, i haven't read other 3 but i don't think there was any build up to their story as such. It became like oh, her life was fruitless before but colin touched it and did a favor or something. Their friendship to love felt so unnatural. We have zero idea of how close they were and what they meant to each other. Each just felt like warped speed. I wish there was more build up in the books and i hope to see that in series. I would be so angry if he kept going on and on about how much he was shocked, i mean come on. I look forward to lady Danbury and pen's friendship. I just hope that Pen is much more fierce in the series. Here, he is just telling her what to do and that becomes irritating. It doesn't really suit his personality or hers. Colin is a very gentle person. He is very soft and I feel that he would show his anger in a more passive aggressive way, now it could be that he thinks Pen is his own so he can freely be angry with her but i still feel that he wouldn't drag hef around as if she is some kind of an object. And pen won't take it, she wouldn't be dragged around. In the series from the snippets, you can see that she us speaking up for herself and she got angry at him. We can also see that Colin have real adoration for Pen and he knows that, he knows that she isn't just his sister's best friend, he knows that he doesn't pity her. I hope that the series don't forget that

Real talk - I was 100% Clueless Colin in college. My best friend was a guy I'd met at orientation, we bonded over the most random shit (this was the mid-90s, so if it was 20 years later, we'd be bonding over memes, I'm sure), and we spent almost all our non-class time doing shit together. Sophomore year, we were roommates. It was all aggressively wholesome. Then I started feeling sick whenever I was around him. I couldn't eat, I felt nauseous, it was awful. So I call my mom and I'm like, "what the hell is going on, this is so dumb and weird?!?!" and I could _hear_ my mom's 🤨over the phone. "Sweetie, you're in _love_." And my only response was "Are you *KIDDING ME*?!?!? Love fucking _sucks_, what the hell, this is so stupid," because gaddammit, I wanted to hang out with my best friend without being sick. 😅 Turns out he was gay (like 90% of my relationships until about 2004, I had _zero_ gaydar), but I'll never forget how _angry_ I was at love for ruining my friendship feels. XD
