Carpenters - Look To Your Dreams
Музыка
"Blame blind yesterday for taking dreams away..."
===========================
Written in 1974 at Karen's request, this song was not recorded until 1978, but then was relegated to the A&M vaults because Richard didn't think it was commercial enough to be included on an album. In 1983, following the death of Karen, the song was finally completed and released on the "Voice of the Heart" album in October 1983. At the conclusion of the song, the piano continues the melody, implying that though The Voice has been silenced, the music continues.
This is said to have been Agnes Carpenter's (Richard and Karen's mom) favorite song.
===========================
LOOK TO YOUR DREAMS
To say I'm romantic
would be quite semantically true
But make-believe passion
has fallen from fashion's milieu
It's understandable
why we're a little confused
It's asking for trouble
just watching the six o'clock news
But for a moment,
all things aside
Look to yourself,
Somewhere inside.
Look to your dreams
Don't they still seem worthwhile?
Don't they still seem in style?
Aren't you glad they're still there?
Look to your dreams
There's a need for them now
When the world has us down
Aren't you glad they're around?
Once conceived, once believed
Fantasy's reality's childhood
And like a seed, visions need constant care
Like a child would
We should
Look to our dreams
We can still make the stars
We can still break the bars
We have built here on earth
Look to your dreams
And tomorrow may be better for you and me
The future may say
Blame blind yesterday
for taking dreams away
They could mean more than they seem ...

No person is perfect, just as no family is perfect. I love the coloration of this video and the images remind us of the good things in life. God has given us one life to live and it is up to us to see the good in life and be grateful for each day He has given us. The Carpenter music will live on forever and I hope future generations will love this music with the same affection as when it began in 1969.
Truly the ONE and ONLY first lady of song EVER

You could almost imagine Karen singing this song to her own children had she lived on and even to her grandchildren by now. Such a loss to the world and each of us searching for peace today.

Given her health condition at age 32, it may have taken years before she was healthy enuff2 bear children; possibly longer if a Dr had diagnosed her Heart. That would've put her into mid 30s or beyond? Not so good.

@@bruschmidt9943 Maybe not so. Her heart was not the problem. Her autopsy cited it as being normal, no visible signs of damage. As per her death certificate, Karen had lapsed into a Hyperosmolar Coma ... a diabetic coma. Her reported blood sugar was an unbelievable 1110! It was this that shut down her autonomous nervous system and signals to her heart, which was why she couldn't be resuscitated in the ER. No one has explored this fact. They keep saying she died from anorexia when it feels more like a case of malpractice.
I love this song. Karen's voice was and always will be THE BEST voice ever. This song makes me cry sometimes. I feel bad for the way she was treated by her brother, her mother, and even the guys at A&M. I was listening to the song "You Light Up My Life" and some of the words fit Karen so perfectly. Phrases like, "So many nights. I'd sit by my window, Waiting for someone To sing me his song. So many dreams, I've kept deep inside me, Alone in the dark,Rolling at sea, Adrift on the waters. Finally, a chance To say, "Hey, I love you," Never again To be all alone." She was a marvelously personable lady, that I had the wonderful chance to meet and talk to. I miss Karen and the music she would have made and I feel like I will see her again someday. She is the best ever. Rest in peace Karen, you are still sorely missed.

Kathy, thank you for sharing your thoughts and especially your memory of meeting and visiting with her. I met Roger Nichols several years ago, he had written about 6 songs that Karen had recorded, and he also spoke of her personality and how gracious she was. I've loved her for 40+ years and will feel the same to my end of days. Thanks again!

Gorgeous Karen sang this beautiful song. The song is beautiful because Karen is Beautiful.
I hadn't heard this song by the Carpenters until now. Karen's voice just sends shivers down your spine, and its hard not get emotional when you hear it. Its been said before but there will never be another Karen C. Even the better of todays so called 'singers' couldn't come close to her brilliance , she was a once in a lifetime talent. God bless her memory.
So Beautiful & her voice!! Karens my, all time favorite singer!!
Been following the Carpenters for 47 years now. Big peace of my heart. Always will be.

We could only wish that life could have been better for you. Greatly missed and loved. You were a one in a million great person who had a warm humorous and caring personality. Karen Carpenter ... All of us here could have helped you to understand and give you happiness if you could have hung out with normal people like us during your sad times..... we had a world of simple things that you needed ....then you could have gone back with the rough people but we would always be here for you to re- charge again ..
This Dream was taken from us 30 yrs ago!!! In my dreams Karen will always be singing!!!!
She was an angle from heaven... I don't know when I listen this song I'll always crying...
Thank you Ned for keeping the dream alive. There is a special place in our hearts where we keep you Karen.
SO ADMIRABLE MUSICAL CARPENTERS... SO RESPECTABLE HEARTS AND SOULS... FLOREVER.
This is the first time I hear this song and it blow me away............ it's beautiful, just like she was !!! still miss you Karen !!!
Hard to grasp the beauty of her voice. Perfection does not really exist except in one place. That is Karen's voice.
This song makes me sad because it reminds me of the memories of both brother and sister growing up together and now is sister is sadly suddenly gone at such a young age. She will be greatly missed for her beautiful talent. She will be greatly missed . R.I.P Karen.
Just wonderful. Her angel voice that never fails to touch my heart. Thank you this. Jim

ANGEL VOICE .....BEAUTIFULL .....une voix d'ange ...un grand talent ...chanson romantique pour un groupe mythique ...
Everyone says how great Karen’s voice was, but let’s also marvel at her “phrasing” of the lyrics. Every word clearly sung.
The piano solo at the ending is so touching.

Richard did the song on his album with accompaniment. I wish he would just do a piano solo like at the end of song but play the whole song.
Wish she found that special someone
Carpenters song's put us at TOP OF THE WORLD....
What a gorgeous song!
Richard later recorded the ending of the song in instrumental to signify that the singers voice was silenced but the music remains!

It seems like Karen Carpenters voice actually became better the older she became. The difference in her voice at the beginning of her career (Ticket To Ride LP) and the end of her career is substantial. I've said it before and I will say it again, I will never get tired of the voice of Karen Capenter.

Karen made it seem so effortless transitioning from the high notes to the low notes; and pronounced each and every word so richly and clearly.

Karen always bring goosebumps wen i hear u sing ......ur a legend in my eyes an always will be R.I.P
Brings tears to my eyes... those pictures and the music and the story of Karen.
After watching her story, it always brings tears to my eyes when I hear her sing. Such a shame that a careless comment caused pain for her the rest of her life.
gorgeous song, sung exquisitely by karen.
Carpenters without a doubt is the greatest group of people I have ever seen in music. To think what they could have done. Voice of an Angel, Eyes of God. Richard Carpenter is the master behind all of these songs from arraging, composing, playing, etc.... he has done so much.. throw in a great song writter like John Betis & the band its easy to see why they were #1
So angelic. Listening to this song makes you feel like being on a cloud.

Does the piano music at the end of this song make anybody start to tear up?
Angelic from America's greatest female drummer/vocalist-RIP Ms. Carpenter, you are gone, but certainly NOT forgotten! xoxoxoxoxo
Karen,s and Richar,s Mother Agnes loved this song the best !!
fantastic voice
Somewhere between heaven and earth.............
Simply amazing, simply beautiful, simply missed, R.i.p. sweet young lady!
Did she ever know she had such a gift ... If she knew it I'm sure she would have respected herself and loved herself more and got beyond all those worries that seemed to make her think less of herself ... she could have done so much more good in our world ...I understand what she went through and I came through ... I understand...I feel very badly about her going away

We just have to appreciate what she did while she was here. She did a lot of good and is STILL having a positive impact. What she did do outlives her and attention to her suffering has helped to save many lives. That voice of hers is also quite healing, blood pressure lowering and soothing. That's quite a legacy for someone who only lived for 32 years.
¡Gracias!¡Muchas gracias desde Argentina, ¡thanks a lot from a fan of Argentina! No doubt the best female singer of al the times! Gracias, thank you again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic song by our beloved Carpenters, really makes me dream everytime I listen to it.. Thank you for this!
happy birthday Karen she died this day 1983 that is 37yrs ago xxxxxxxxxxxxx
This song reminds me Nat King Cole for the melody, the arrangements.. Maybe Karen Carpenter was inspired in "Nat King" singing this beautiful song. Today, February 4, 2020, 37th anniversary of Karen's passed away. We all miss her
Feel gooood to hear Karen's voice...Fabulous voice..
First time I heard that song. The carpters nailed it. Asome song
I feel your heart brother. It's so deep.
Such a beautiful voice and such a beautiful young soul. So sad she is gone. I understand her eating disorder. I fought it for years. RIP Karen so many us love you miss you. ❤😢
A perfect song for a movie!!!! Very nice song. We need to look to our dreams, as 2020 is very bleak. Dream 2021, and better days ahead.........
In Karen's wildest dreams, she never thought of what she achieved. That's the very essence of being special. Achieving something not because you dream of it but because it was meant for you
The record company made a mistake not to include this on a album while she was alive I lost my mum in January and I still missing her. Thank you Ned Nickerson for the brilliant carpenters music I listened to over the last two years being a late convert to KZread.
Thank you for all those years of wonderful, superb, sublime music! From Brazil with love...

Regarding Karen's voice, Richard always said, "the money's in the basement." Meaning her lower vocal notes.
