Carpenters - Where Do I Go From Here?

Музыка

In 1978, while working on their first Christmas album, Karen and Richard also recorded several songs for what was intended to have been a 10th-Anniversary album, including this song "Where Do I Go From Here," a song which had previously been recorded by Barry Manilow and England Dan & John Ford Coley . But personal and health issues for both Karen and Richard prevented them from finishing the album and the songs were relegated to the vaults of A&M.
In 1989, a snippet of the song was featured in The CBS Movie of the Week, "The Karen Carpenter Story," during the scene where Karen is in the hospital. Later that year, the song was finally released on the album "Lovelines."
Where Do I Go From Here?
(Words and music by Parker McGee)
Autumn days...
Lying on a bed of leaves,
watching clouds up through the trees...
You said our love was more than time
It's colder now.
The trees are bare and nights are long.
I can't get warm since you've been gone.
I can't stop singin' sad songs.
Where do I go from here?
Tell me, where do I go from here?
You said you'd take me through the years,
So where do I go from here?
Lovers' plans,
Like fallin' leaves on windy days,
Flutter past and they fly away.
I though I knew you, oh, so well -
And I need you now.
I need to feel you in the night.
I need your smile so warm and bright.
I wish my mind could let you go!
Where do I go from here?
Tell me, where do I go from here?
You said you'd take me through the years,
so where do I go from here?
Where do I go from here?
Tell me, where do I go from here?
You said you'd take me through the years,
so where do I go from here?
You said you'd take me through the years,
so where do I go from here?

My God. This woman's voice awakens feelings that I cannot explain. I'm in love with her. It looks like she whispers the song in my lap. Karen didn't have to shout the song. She was on another level. Current singers can't hold a candle for KAREN

One of the greatest love songs of all time as Karen sings it. This song is a gem You hear the depth of her range. She was so clear and precise. You hear things like "those were simple songs," don't be fooled, these songs Karen performed were some of the hardest and most difficult to perform, but, Karen Carpenter pulled them off flawlessly and in perfect form.

This is the version for me. Karen Carpenter's voice is very subtle. She seems plain, but there's a lot going on in this singer's throat. Her phrasing and timing are superb. Her timbre like no one else's.

In another post, I wrote that I really, really think maybe the incredible frequency of her voice has a physical, not just emotional, capability. Her voice maybe truly affects our brains ; and then our brains, thankfully and blessedly, take it to our hearts . Or maybe that's my rationale for why she turns me into a wet mess so very often. Don't know; doesn't matter; thank you, Karen...

Symbolic of this wonderful song, the world was full of optimism looking for a brighter tomorrow, as people in their young twenties so often are. Nobody could deliver a song like Karen Carpenter. I think this song had enormous hit potential. The lyrics, Richard’s masterful arrangements and Karen’s voice unequaled. By 1978 Top 40 Radio held an unfair bias to their product which is a shame. I think this song is stronger than “I believe you” which I think was also recorded during the same 1978 sessions. If only they were given the respect they earned and deserved.😢

This song just wrecks me. I imagine it's about the death of a lover, gone forever. Fortunately the disco interlude brings it up a bit near the end. So beautifully and sadly sung, Karen, as always.

In many songs of the Carpenters it was very impressive to listen to the drums, and this happens in this song, take the task of listening only to the drums, and you will understand, Karen's passion was drums and she was the best drummer by far, and his voice is pure gold

"Carpenters - Where Do I Go From Here?" GOOD PERFORMER thanks Autumn days Lying on a bed of leaves Watching clouds up through the trees You said our love was more than time It's colder now The trees are bare and nights are long I can't get warm since you've been gone I can't stop singin' sad songs (*) Where do I go from here? Tell me where do I go from here? You said you'd take me through the years So where do I go from here? Lover's plans Like fallin' leaves on windy days Flutter past and they fly away I though I knew you oh so well And I need you now I need to feel you in the night I need to your smile so warm and bright I wish my mind could let you go Repeat (*) You said you'd take me through the years So where do I go from here?

I listened to Barry' Manilow's version, and it is very good, I'm not taking anything away from Barry, he has many great songs; but, Karen Carpenter's version is incredible. Listen to the total unmatched perfection.

In order to really "feel" this song, you have to be in pain. Karen truly was in pain, and that is what enabled her to sing it like this. I sing myself, and in order to really do a stellar performance like this one, the song has to MEAN something to you, to the extent that you have to fight to keep from bursting into tears as you sing it.

Exactly what's happened to me, the only two little differences are that i'm 47 and that was not my father but my older brother who would play the Carpenters on our mc player. The first time that i heard her i was only 6 years old, and from 1971 she's in my soul and in my heart. For me, she's like a marvelous dream ... simply infinite!

Heartwrenching song from one who, like my beautiful late wife Heather, was too good for this world and taken from it all too soon. One moment we were new parents, married three years prior and head-over-heels in love, the next I was stumbling alone through a bleak grey February aching for her presence and trying to figure out how I was going to get through the rest of my life now that my soul mate was gone and all our plans lay in ashes. Heather loved the Carpenters and the fall (naturally, she was a New England girl after all), and this song encapsulated the sense of nostalgia and hopelessness of those first months and years without her. Almost a decade has now passed and the raw pain inevitably blunted somewhat but not the memory of my lost love and nor will it ever be while my own heart continues to beat. Until we meet again sweetheart 💔

Where do I go from here.. Could almost be Richards song. Saying now where do I go from here. In memory of his sister. KC not was, but will always in my heart and tears for the music she sang and the never fulfilled possibilities.. You along with Mireille Matheiu be forever my most favourite voices. X
