With tears in my eyes I write this....as a teenager in the 70's I remember how much of a crush I had on Karen Carpenter. I thought and still think she is one of the most beautiful women i have ever seen or heard. No yelling, or filters in her music...so lovely, so pure. The voice of an angel...I love you and miss you forever....

Even the most talented singers have a hard time singing slowly and softly but that was where she was at her strongest. She was a recording engineer's dream. Her pitch was always absolutely spot on. Her tone was absolute beauty and she put passion behind every word she sang. And a huge kudos to her brother and the incredible band.

@@tammielawrence1214 I agree with you. Her voice has always been hauntingly beautiful, as was she. Such a troubled lady thanks to the producers who told her she was too fat for tv at 115 lbs. From what I understand, she didn't get anorexia until they told her she needed to lose weight. I cry nearly every time I hear her songs. My mom loved her voice and their show too, and we were hooked (even though I was 6 yrs old). We just had to watch them every week no matter what! Her voice is smooth as melted butter. Richard's talent writing and playing all those songs is just incredible. They really were a dynamic duo. So glad she found out she could sing as well as play drums! Rest in peace, Karen.

The negative influences of this world are designed to make our heart sick through emotional & physical pain resulting in a given person turning to music as one source of comfort to the body. The painful realty of this existence gives rise to the birth of music in two forms, earthly & HEAVENLY. Earthly music speaks to the experiences of this world through the singer-song writer’s eyes. Oftentimes drug use (i.e. alcohol, smokes, marijuana, cocaine, opioids, benzos and propofol to name a few) is intertwined with the survival of an artist to deal with the pressure of performing in order to stay relevant in the music industry, and to serve as fuel for creativity. As a result, music celebrities develop a tendency to sin against their body, through excessive drug use, for not measuring up to or to satisfy the demands of their music. Any earthly joy they experience is darkened by the heavy burden of performing and the loss of privacy. The end users of their music become fans because the lyrics are relatable and the sound of the singer’s voice & rhythm helps them cope with the pains of this reality. Unfortunately, this band aid approach is only a time out from the hurt and in the meantime we are fortifying its wall with painful memories waiting in line. Who can save us from wounds that are silent, wordless and cruel all the while tearing us apart inch by inch on the inside, which could radically accelerate the demise of the human body? I will use caps as emphasis to show the honest reverence for GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY when writing about HEAVENLY music in the paragraphs below. That INVINCIBLE DIVINE be our HEAVENLY FATHER, WHO THROUGH HIS SON’S MISSION HAS INSPIRED believers to write songs that sing of HIS LIFE GIVING LOVE to deal with emotional & physical pain, economic instability, mortality and the emotional instability of others with the motive of winning over souls for HIS KINGDOM. The melody & theme of HEAVENLY music is hateful and intolerable to the devil, a spirit which causes us to be blinded of the effects of sin and is responsible for the woes of this world such as melancholy, anguish, tribulation and trial. These agitations of the soul create a heavy burden for the lost and could lead him or her to be hostile of songs that sing about GOD’S GLORY. This makes it clear that we cannot win the spiritual battle by our own strength. Moreover, on earth the devil has no equal. GOD has provided us with the ONE WHO CAN AND WILL LIFT the heavy burden of sin's guilt from a given sinner's heart if he or she (through faith) would open their understanding to Psalms (starting with the focus on Psalms 51:1-10 KJV), and hymns/songs giving praise to HIM for the purpose of being persuaded, converted and healed by the HOLY SPIRIT from within by transforming your body/temple into a meeting place for you and the KING OF THE AGES to commune as friends through the born again experience (repentance manifesting itself in a changed life). It is only here that the fears of tomorrow will diminish, the blessed assurance is given that you are HIS and HE LIVES. Once the blessed assurance is known in prayer (through the confession of wanting salvation from one’s sinful nature, combine with admitting that JESUS CHRIST is LORD and believing in one’s heart that GOD raised HIM from the dead to deliver us from sin's guilt) the world can never take it away because the world didn’t give it to you.

I was so glad to have found this on KZread; thank you, Billy Rees, for uploading it. I am 33 years old, and have been a fan of Karen Carpenter's amazing voice since my mom bought a two-volume set of The Carpenters in 1997. I was instantly hooked, which is kind of shocking when you think about it---what thirteen-year-old is going to listen to her mother's music? But I did, and often. I listened to that CD set so much that I had all the songs memorized in a matter of months, and I'm really surprised that I didn't wear it out. I've never heard another female contralto voice quite like Karen's, but perhaps that is what made her so unique. There have been others in the lower female vocal range that I enjoy equally well, such as Judy Garland, Dinah Shore, and Patsy Cline, but there is just something about Karen's voice that calls to that quiet place within my soul and makes me remember what it really important: kindness, gentleness, and love. This was the very first time I ever saw Karen sing, as I've always just heard her instead. To be honest, I was fighting back tears toward the end of the video because of her tragic and early death. I am one year older than she was at the time she died, and I still feel like I have so much time left. I could not imagine dying now, or even twenty years from now. You were taken from the world far too soon, Karen. You are missed. You are loved. And your music will never die.

i remember finding carpenters when i was 8 or 9 years old at my uncles house and he showed me his drum set and i just loved playing the drums. i’ve since stopped playing and started singing more seriously than before. a true inspiration to me and many more to come. learning of karen’s death when i was 13 or 14 years old helped me to recover from lifelong anorexia. may their music live on for generations and generations to come.

This type of singing goes into your soul without the runs, riffs, belting, and juat simple singing. Interpretation, phrasing, control, and beauty of tone, and distinct. Who would not be captivated by that voice. I am a runs-riff person, but my parents have introduced me this singer in my childhood. And this maybe one of the best singers you will hear in your life. And her speaking voice is also the same as her singing voice. I love that. And its the first time I heard the comical version of Close to You haha but they were so talented. No digital sounds, all produced in the stage. A great piano player richard is. And karen, what a drummer. These were the times when musicians actually PRODUCE music. You could actually enjoy music at its finest. A variety of music.

I always heard Karen on the radio. Enjoyed the songs of her singing. Never saw any photos or read about her and Richard. Until today on utube 2023! How could Karen sing so well being sick?? 😮 Not eating good food for energy. Sad.😢 She was so very pretty. 😇📖🕊

Every time I watch them I break down and cry. They've always done that to me. There's just something about them that speaks to the heart in a way that few ever do. I appreciate them so much. The Carpenters added so much to our music world. Words cannot say how much.

Thank you so much for uploading this, Billy Rees. What an outstanding performance! Karen was, and still is, my idol. I was 11 yrs old when "Close to You" hit the airwaves, and she could play the drums, too! So, for Christmas my parents bought me, their little girl, a junior drumset. Ahhh, Karen, my god, I STILL miss you after all these years. That voice, the voice of an angel. And your precious sense of humor. I'm reading the "Little Girl Blue" biography right now & my heart aches, and is just torn apart, with all the pain and sadness she was going through. All the pressure, the sadness, being alone on the road, touring, recording, touring, recording, no time to find the true love your heart so wanted, needed & deserved. Wow. There is so much in the book and great interviews from her friends who knew her best. KC, you were too good for this world, beautiful angel. We miss you, and love you, and thank you for all you gave us. You live on forever in our hearts.

Hey, Israel. Thank you! I got the book off of Amazon.com, and then bought the kindle edition as well. I've listened to it several times to really get the time, dates and years that different things happened in her life accurate in my head. Such a beautiful, sweet soul she was. Good luck with finding the book, or kindle/audible edition. www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_16?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=little+girl+blue+the+life+of+karen+carpenter&sprefix=little+girl+blue%2Caps%2C233

Karen's voice was so ethereal, beautiful & pure & she was just such an amazing musical talent that it never stops being sad that the world lost her so young. She & her brother made so much incredible & unforgettable music together, a legacy that stands alongside all of the greats of music. RIP karen & thank you for the music. Thanks for the video billy, this was a real joy to watch.
