Bret Hart said in his book he was supposed to face Ricky Steamboat at Wrestlemania 2 but that changed to him being part of the battle royal. Missed out on a classic there.

Tenryu was originally supposed to face Jerry Lawler at Wrestlemania 9. Tenryu even worked a Superstars & Challenge taping, but those matches only aired internationally.

Yes I remember that. WWF had a working agreement with Tenryus SWS promotion and there were supposed to be some talent exchanges and Tenryus being on WrestleMania was part of this.

I remember that was mentioned after the Rumble’93 yes. I watched wrestling from Norway and I remember one Tenryu vs jobber match.

There are a couple of minor match changes that I can throw into here. -Wrestlemania 14: Owen Hart was originally the defending European Champion going into Wrestlemania, but he dropped the belt beforehand to Triple H on Raw and was the challenger instead. -Wrestlemania 15: The Rock vs. Stone Cold had Big Show as the sole guest referee, then Mankind was added as a second guest referee, before both were removed to have a match of their own to decide who the ref would be for the main event. -Wrestlemania 32: Becky/Sasha/Charlotte was for the Divas Title at first, but became for the inaugural Women's Championship (later Raw Women's Championship) during the kickoff. -Wrestlemania 38: Roman/Brock was only for the Universal Championship, but became the Winner Takes All Unification Match after Brock won the WWE Title in the Elimination Chamber.

Eddie/HBK at Mania 22 could've been one of the best matches ever. The Rock/Brock rematch at 30 would've been cool as well, but maybe not the greatest match.

This was just a small rumor that I read online, but once Kurt Angle approached an already retired Bret Hart about a potential dream match at WrestleMania 20 in 2004. He offered a Submission Match so Bret wouldn’t have to take any bumps to take it easier on himself, but Bret declined and Angle just went into a world title match with Eddie.

@@moneymantwin1267 That's exactly why Taker chose Flair; in his mind he had plenty of other chances to work RVD in the future, this might have been his only chance to work Flair, so he chose Flair. And it was that match that helped Flair get his confidence back.

One that is insane was the rumored main event of Mania 7 was to have Hulk Hogan vs. a heel turned Tugboat renamed Sheik Tugboat for the WWF title instead of Hogan vs. Sgt. Slaughter

James you got WrestleMania 24 mixed up it was supposed to be Candice as Maria's partner but Candice reinjured her collarbone and was replaced by Ashley

Thank God that a singles Hogan vs Zeus match never happened. I dont think that the WWF's business would've ever recovered. Hogan vs Warrior was the right call to close WM6.

I remember being so disappointed as a kid when we didn't get a flair vs hulk hogan match at wm 8 yes we eventually got the matches in big wcw ppvs but still we all wanted that match at wm 8 but never got what we wanted but at least we got savage and flair as a consolation match.

One Hogan was leaving after 8, it would have been impossible to book a winner in a way to make both participants happy But Savage/Flair is an all time great WWE Title match at Mania

I'm pretty sure I recall British Bulldog being announced for the hardcore battle royal too but was removed before mideon was as well.

Mick Foley mentioned that they wanted Mankind to face Marc Mero at WM 13. I also heard that The Rock was supposed to face Marc Mero at WM 13, since Mero got hurt they replaced him with The Sulton. It makes sense because they were teasing a heel turn in early 97 before the injury.

That was a rumor that started after The Nexus helped Kane defeat Taker in the Buried Alive Match at Bragging Rights 2010

1. I was at 23, so I'm biased toward that show; though all 3 were great. The theme to 22 was the better of the 3. The stage to 23 was the better of the 3. 2. It happened 3. He was supposed to, but they kept delaying the release of the belt

Not a match but I had heard for years and years at the first wrestlemania that Brusier Brody was supposed to run in either after or maybe during the main event and attack Hogan. I had heard the goal was to break Hogan's leg.

Sort of one for Wrestlemania 31. Sting pitched the dream match with The Undertaker, but instead faced Triple H and Taker would face Bray Wyatt (RIP). Unrelated to Mania but I did think of Dustin Rhodes replacing Keith Lee to face Swerve Strickland at AEW World's End.

Nice vid! Didn’t Charlotte Flair get pulled a week or two before WM37 and replaced by Rhea Ripley to face Asuka? Was that covid related?

Newest One Andrade replacing Dragon Lee teaming with Rey Mysterio to face Santos Escobar & Dominik Mysterio at Wrestlemania 40

My fav Urban Legend Match would be Taker VS Sting at 27. Really, since both could go at the time, I think it could have been a fun match. Granted, at the time, The Streak was still a thing, and doubtful that Vince would have wanted a WCW guy ending The Streak, but still could have been fun none the less.

I’m guessing it wasn’t included because it ended up airing on Heat, but Chief Morley was a relatively late replacement for an injured William Regal in the World Tag Team Titles match (Mania XIX). I wouldn’t be surprised if the match was originally planned for Mania but was moved to Heat due to Regal’s injury.

I seem to remember the WWF magazine prior to Wrestlemania VIII had Hacksaw & Sgt Slaughter vs Money Inc for the WWF Tag Team titles mentioned as 1 of the matches taking place. I'm not too sure if this was ever acknowledged on tv

The only thing I've ever heard about this was a rumored non-title match between these 2 teams at Mania 8 That was when it was supposed to be LOD/Disasters for the belts at that same event; but Hawk's suspension changed everything

Actually, I believe it was supposed to be Money Inc defending the Tag Titles against the Nasty Boys. Due to a rumored Jerry Sags contract dispute, the Nastys were replaced by Brutus Beefcake and a returning Hulk Hogan.

At WM1 "The Rumor" was Hogan Def. Rude & DiBiase Def. Savage. I heard DiBiase was given a non Kayfabe raise & "The Million Dollar Title" instead.

There was a rumor that the main event of WrestleMania XV was going to be a Triple Threat Match between Austin, Rock, & Mankind for the WWF Championship.

As the story goes it went as far as it being green lit & Russo telling Foley he's Main Eventing Mania Then apparently Shawn played politics & got it staying a 1 on 1 match Foley making the cameo as the referee was more or less a compromise to get him in the Main Event

I think my favorite is Foley/Funk in an exploding ring deathmatch at 14. I read that in his book, I think?

Footage was shown of razor n goldust I live in jersey n we saw everything everyone else didn’t like jake savage backstage n undertaker face turn I remember I recorded it live n had that footage

Isn’t the BunnyMania match the other way around? Candice was initially planned to be in the tag with Maria but was taken out due to injury and Ashley took her place.

The best one was probably Bryan being added to the Main Event of 30 The worst was probably the convoluted mess that was the built to the Main Event of 2000

I’ll add a bit to the rumor about WrestleMania XVII, and the match between Undertaker Vs Triple H. Shawn Michaels was originally scheduled to be apart of that match either as a special referee or doing run in interference, but was sent home a week before the show due to him passed out on drugs in Vince’s office. It’s a well known story, but thought I would just add it here.

5 minutes into video so dont know if it gets mentioned or not but Wrestlemania 9 was also supposed to have a 6 man tag match. It was going to be the Bushwackers & Hacksaw vs The Nasty Boys & i think Mountie. They ended up having the match the next night on Raw.

That was never suppose to happen or even rumored to happen None of those 6 guys were on Raw the night after Wrestlemania 9 & Mountie was gone from the WWF in the fall of 1992

My favorite rumor is hands down HBK vs Eddie Guerrero. Two technical masters that I believe would have stole the show. Just a shame Eddie passed. Still breaks my heart today

Apparently Orndorff was the back up had Andre not been able to go at 3. I think he and Hogan would have a good match.

I wouldn't consider it in the change category as the participants stayed the same Similar to the Owen/HHH European Title Match at 14; Owen was the champion when originally advertised, but then HHH was the champion heading into the match, but it was still Owen/HHH at the end of the day

Triple H has talked about how they had penciled in an idea for he & Tyson to do a Boxing Match at Wrestlemania 17 and go about 6 rounds But plans were scrapped due to money

The triple threat match between Randy Orton, Batista, and Daniel Bryan happened, is because of what happened at the 2014 Royal Rumble, and even since 2013 after the WWE title match between Bryan and John Cena at SummerSlam, Randy cashed it in on Daniel and kickstarted the Authority angle. Even worse, at the same PPV/PLE Event, a lot of people were clamoring for Daniel Bryan to be there on the number 30 spot, but when Rey was announced and when Batista won the Rumble, it all changed as if they didn't care what the fans wanted, they immediately called an audible and booed the entire match and the event to the ground, aside from the iconic match between him and Bray Wyatt (posthumously). It was at that moment the entire WWE Universe had enough of Vince's BS Booking decisions and they forced him to change the match and eventually, to many of them, it worked that Daniel Bryan beat Triple H and on the main event, he immediately won the WWE World Championship. So In hindsight, it's likely that Cody is going to go the same route leading this WrestleMania.

Here's the thing though. Rey Mysterio was already confirmed for the Rumble, while Daniel Bryan was NEVER confirmed. In fact, #'s 25-30 were all confirmed participants. If Bryan was to enter the match, it would have been at 24, but that spot would end up being JBL. Bryan was already in a hard hitting match with Bray Wyatt earlier in the show. And Wyatt wasn't in the Rumble either. And even had Bryan entered, he wouldn't have won, as Batista was gonna win regardless of who was in the match. But yea, chalk it up to all the whiny WWE fans that got butthurt their golden boy wasn't in a match he was never a confirmed participant in, and WWE had to give in to the backlash.

But, the crazy thing, is that people were getting behind Roman (when he was in the Shield, at the time), 'cause nobody wanted Batista to win as well, because their top guy, Daniel Bryan wasn't in the match, was totally insulting to them. And to add even more insult to injury, they did the exact same thing again the following year in the 2015 Royal Rumble, but this time, Daniel was in the Royal Rumble Match, and so was Bray Wyatt (posthumously), only for Bryan to get eliminated. And when Roman won the Rumble and Rock supported him after that, bruh, the nuclear heat was totally out of control at that point. Granted, this wasn't WWE's idea from the get go to have underdogs like Daniel Bryan over, whereas he got over organically, they tried to do so with Roman but failed miserably, as Ross (shout-out to Kickin it with Ross btw) pointed out, and although Rock wasn't at fault per se, but he should've known that by then, that the WWE Universe were screwed again by Vince and his stupid booking decision BS, for not living up to their promises in having the underdog (Daniel Bryan I mean) to win, and Roman was getting a huge chorus of boos from the crowd out of the building. So, in hindsight it's likely that Rock and Roman are gonna get a huge nuclear heat at that very same place in Philadelphia at this year's WrestleMania. But regardless, when Roman got that nuclear heat at that year's RR, I personally felt that either this particular moment or the night at Fastlane after the match with Daniel Bryan, should've been the moment when Roman goes full-on HHH heel mode and attack Bryan by then, or the night on RAW after WrestleMania 33, after he beat Undertaker, the nuclear heat was so massive, that he should've turned heel at that point, but the WWE Creative department refused to do so. Hell, If I booked the situations at both WrestleMania XXX and 31, I would have Heel Roman go against Heel Brock, for the World Title, (Mania 31), Jericho vs Taker (Mania XXX), and Brock (redacted) Lesnar in the Andre the Giant memorial Battle Royal (Mania XXX).

You missed out on the whole Outlaw switch fiasco from WrestleMania 15.

Not missed out, as they never officially announced Gunn in the IC Title Match & Dogg in the Hardcore Title Match

on the rumours, Hogan vs. Zeus would have been so crud (@ Wrestlemania VI). In fact Zeus's whole run was so pointless and over-hyped. It would have been fine for a Saturday Night's Main Event (but still crud), but it would have had its place. But once Hogan would have repelled and quoshed Zeus's challenge, there would have been nowhere left for Zeus to go. As it turns out he was fizzled out quickly after late '89. A bizarre moment of WWF/E's long and chequered years.....

@@WeAreProWrestling dunno. Good question. Luckily we didn't get Zeus in any other headlining P/P/V (with the greatest of respect to Tom Lister, RIP). It would have made for horrendous viewing. At least Earthquake was mobile and skilled enough, unique enough in size but something to work with come later 1990.

Dibiase winning the title tournament at WM4 would have made sense in some ways being it was at Trump Plaza and Dibiase being the million dollar man, but Vince wasn’t keen on having a bad guy win the main event of Mania just yet. Dibiase not having a title run was highway robbery. Savage could have chased Dibiase while Hogan was out in Hollywood.

Don't see it happening. Either it's gonna be Roman/Cody, straight up one-on-one, with no Bloodline involved, or it's gonna be Roman/Cody in a Bloodline Rules Match, that makes Cody "finishing the story" a more difficult scenario.

@@GuiOmania And Triple H said a few weeks ago that "he makes all final decisions and that a certain someone tried to assert their authority when he doesn't really have any." And if Rock really was the boss, he would have just replaced Cody with himself. And Triple Threat round number? There wasn't a Triple Threat at WM10. Yokozuna was forced to pull double duty, as did Bret Hart. And 3-Ways didn't seem to be a thing until the late 90's.

As far as WrestleMania 2000, Chris Jericho being a part of the Fatal 4 Way wouldn't have made sense, sure he was in promotional stuff with the other 3, but having Jericho being a part of the Fatal 4 Way 7 or 8 months after he debuted really wouldn't make any sense.

Speaking of, there have been a lot of bait and switches over the years, but when it comes to WrestleMania, which 'card subject to change' is your most favorite or least favorite? Cause for me, my least favorite 'card subject to change' was the build up to WrestleMania 2000 was when Mick Foley came back, Big Show being added cause he was the number one contender when it should've been either one on one with The Rock vs Triple H or Rock vs Triple H vs Big Show in a triple threat.

I truly believe it cudda been a 4 1/2 Star Match 😫 WWE & HBK wanted The Rock vs ShawnMichaels at WM 20 but The Rock Declined cause of their Past Stone Cold vs Hulk Hogan at WM 22

@@WeAreProWrestling it would be pretty nice to see Shawn and Bret clash in a nice singles match and it would be a big time main event at WrestleMania 13. The question is, what will happen to Undertaker, Sid and Austin as well as the WWE title if WrestleMania 13 would feature Bret vs HBK in a non-title showdown?

That's 1 of 2 different rumors for Tugboat at Wrestlemania 7 The other was he was gonna be the turncoat, beat Warrior at the Rumble, & enter Wrestlemania 7 as WWF Champion to face Hogan

I'm one that was glad it wasn't Hogan vs flair but we got a 5 star match between 2 of the best worker's ever in sid and Hogan😂. I'm just kidding. Flair and savage was the show stealer and rest of wm 8 is forgettable.
