3 days ago I was searching on KZread for a good men perfume for dating. From video to video, I suddenly found myself in Vanessa's channel. starting from that moment, I forgot the perfume and I couldn't stop myself from watching her talks. I can tell that I become addicted to her. It might because she is beautiful, attractive, passionate, talkative,nice, feminine, or smart. But what I am really sure about is the fact that from every single video I learnt something new from Vanessa. she is very insightful, thanks to coincidence that guided me to reach here!

The more a presenter's gestures or vocal inflections seem inflated or exaggerated, the more I feel the need to scrutinize and congruency-check the content of the presentation. This is especially true of many TED talks.

Regarding hand gesture frequency and view frequency of TEDtalks, this is just a correlation. Correlation is not causation. Some other factor might be contributing both the high frequency of hand gestures as well as views. This makes more sense if you consider that a TEDtalk consisting just of hand gestures and nothing else would be unlikely to go viral. She’s implying that more hand gestures converts to more views, but this would have to be tested experimentally. This is the danger of data mining.

+Frank Brown I see what you're saying, but that's a remarkable correlation - wonder what else was at play. There might not be much danger in adding some hand gestures to oral presentations - unless it is overused, forced, etc.

My point is that I don't think a so-so Talk could be made significantly more appealing if the presenter merely waved their arms about more. Conversely, if one listened to and did not watch a really good TEDTalk with lots of body language, I don't think it's estimation would drop to mediocre.

So... contempt and disgust are what I missed. My question is based on your method to be certain that you read the facial expression right, when you ask to have them express their feelings by asking if they are clear or have any concerns and they don't respond with an explanation; or going over the aspect of the topic that caused the initial facial expression you notice it changed, do you leave it to say the individual stance has been adjusted or make a third attempt?

I was comparing myself to the computer rendering of faces and found that when in a relaxed pose, I favor the introvert. However, I noticed that in a relaxed pose, my head tilts upward slightly, and by tilting it down I start to favor the extrovert. Just curious if this is the same for anyone else.

Not sure about use of Shark Tank footage for analysis - those are heavily edited shows, so unless all of the raw footage is taken into consideration, I'd think it's a crapshoot... also, micro expressions - not a fan, especially if people aren't event able to clearly discern which one is which...

I am detail oriented, but don’t like to be restricted by a set schedule; can be organized but it takes a lot of effort, still trying to adapt the habit of making lists. So I am confused. Also, I can see how they studied Tedtalks, but Shark Tank?! Isn’t it super edited and can be unreliable to study patterns?

The Simon Sinek Ted talk (18min from September 2009) has 5 million views...I just checked...where have the other 40 million views gone then?

It wasn't the typical massive inauguration. Scary that they included this and makes me wonder about the rest of these conclusions.

I think she mentioned that this was merely "interesting" and didn't draw a lot of conclusions off of that fact. There will always be outliers and nuances that are hard to see from the data, but the good thing is, there will always bee outliers in either direciton if you have enough data, so they effectively cancel out. I feel good conclusions should be drawn from average data, while investigating deeply into outliers. But again, she didn't really dwell on that point much

Here’s a question: what if you have a boss who is low neurotic but also low in empathy? That’s my current challenge as a relatively high neurotic?

I tend to use verbal cues to rattle their low neurotic personalities and also show I recognize a lack of empathy. Things like "Kiss my ass Bob...you douche." Or you can try "How about you get off your ass and do it yourself, you self centered ass hat." I then reinforce my statements with a universal body language hand gesture using my middle finger and a smile on my face. Then walk out of the building. Find the nearest computer and use the search terms "Jobs in my area." Repeat as needed.
