Cannondale CAAD13 Disc Force eTap AXS Review | Editor's Choice 2019 | Cycling Weekly

Спорт

Cannondale’s CAAD13 is faster, more comfortable and more capable than almost any other aluminium framed bike ever created. It’s managed to improve on the already exceptional CAAD12, itself a recipient of an Editor’s Choice award so quite rightly belongs in this year’s honours list.

    Clearly not one of the podium hustlers posting on this comment board have ever ridden this bike. Nor probably even seen it in real life. Caad is light-years ahead of all other aluminum frames and just ever so slightly behind carbon. In Canada the Supersix Evo Hi-Mod Dura Ace Di2 retails at $15,000 and the Caad13 SRAM etap $7,000 - less than half the price. I would argue that the group-set with the Caad13 is even better than the Di2 but that's debatable. If you think a couple of welds and the stigma in your elite Saturday morning coffee ride group over riding Aluminum is worth it then giddy-up. Anyone ever stacked on your carbon frame and had a baby wipe fit over whether it's safe to ride again lol! Never mind, I challenge one person here to explain the how a carbon lay-up is worth $8,000 more. Better yet, just mail me the check! Happy riding...

    If aluminium bikes are in focus, the Specialized Allez sprint discs should get a mention, great bike with a awesome construction method, especially with the bottom bracket.

    I’ve been riding Cannondale aluminum bicycles since 1986, yes 86...when they were oversized tubes like the Klein frames, if you remember them. I loved Cannondale then and love them now. Absolutely no reason to have to sell your kidney to buy a Super Six Evo or the latest Carbon go-into-debt Road Warrior when these bikes stay in-style all day, every day and through the years. They rock in every performance category. I’ve still got my CAAD 10 and 12 they’re bullet proof. A Crit bike, a nasty weather ride , a trusty indoor trainer friend and all-round do most anything really good bicycle. +1 here peeps.

    My first super nice road bike was a Cannondale I bought in 1990. I came from a Bridgestone (Yes, I know. A classic now.) and so the first time I rode the Cannondale, I couldn't get over how stiff the frame was! I am 6'3" and was an Infantry Marine at the time. I could always feel the bottom bracket of the Bridgstone flexing just a little every time I'd put in a hard sprint or grind up a steep climb. The Cannondale had no flex! Granted it beat the crap out of me with the 18 and 20c tires back then, but I didn't care.

    I actually restored a 1986 model with a 105 group set in 2015, I believe it was a SR500 model. Regardless, it's been fun, but as much as I like the thought of throwing on some light wheels, a new group set, carbon fork, etc, I think I'll make a ~35 year leap forward upgrade with this bike.

    Hi! I’m considering the 105 disc and have a few questions. Is it something that I could ride both on hilly roads in town as well as on a flat, finely crushed limestone trail system? And is it comfortable for long rides? It would be my only bike, and those are my main interests. I am no expert, so I would appreciate any advice!

    @@GFCoyleWVU I completed my longest rides on this bike (100km+) and it was the most comfortable bike that I have ever owned. I think that provided you have the correct tires, finely crushed limestone trails should be good!

    Having ridden the bike for more than 1000 miles I can say it handles great. Better than most bikes Ive ridden. The downside for me was the creak in the seatpost wedge. This can be fixed but its annoying its there in the first place.

    Does anyone know why the welding is so obvious on this bike compared to the caad 12, particularly the join between the top tube and seat tube, it's not up to the usual high Cannondale standard.

    I'd guess that with the lower seat steays, there's more torsional load being applied to the joint of the top tube and the seat tube. Also, the top tube is thinner at that joint, meaning they would have to add more welding material for strenth. Lastly, well finished welds means adding material to make the surface smooth.

    The CAAD12 handles like a dream, is super responsive, aggressive and compliant. It just doesn’t have dropped seat stays or a weird shaped seat post. They’ve just hiked the prices and added a proprietary tech system. Cycling Weekly trolling out more marketing baloney.

    @@0rangekick i personally never had any problem with BB30, got CAAD10 & slate & even specialized allez sprint all using BB30, not a single creak except there was a time when my crank wasn't installed right. The thing is I saw many people including frieends of mine freak out when there was creaking and then instantly blame the BB, they kept trying to change/service their BB until the very end they gave up the damn bike, then comes their BSA salvation and creaks there are. They went nuts and meddling with their cranks and derailleurs, shelling out whole bunch of money. At the end of the day finding out their pricey zipp wheels' spokes are the source.

  • @0rangekick

    @0rangekick

    @@FenixYuk my problem with BB30 is that you're pressing a hardened steel bearing directly into a frame that is more than likely made from a softer material. Trek has a standard called BB90 where you're pressfitting a hardened steel bearing into carbon directly. This is a design flaw and a big enough flaw that I will not spend one penny in owning it, nor should anyone else for that matter.

  • @FenixYuk

    @FenixYuk

    @@0rangekick problem is bearings are all press fitted, they either were pressed into the frame or pressed into a cup and then the cup being theated into a frame. Like many have mentioned BB30's problem actually is that it got a shorter 68mm spindle, which is technically inferior, coupled with Cannondale's shitty manufacturing QC, press fit or not isn't the issue.

    Not exactly. The Fezzari has much lower end wheels and doesn't have the aero cockpit (not that the cockpit matters to me on a bike like this). So, add another $2,000 (or your currency equivalent) to the price of the bike for comparable wheels. Another $500 for aero bars if you want the look. I have to admit that I am a big Cannondale fanboy, but if I hadn't bought my SuperSix last year, I would be seriously considering the Fezzari. I love the way it looks.
