Cancel Culture: The Decline and Disconnect Within Society | Jasmine Iacullo | TEDxYouth@NBPS

Have you ever been cancelled? The toxic trend of cancel culture has emerged over the years and is in desperate need of diluting. This talk will go over the ins and outs of cancel culture and how you can put a stop to it, once and for all. Jasmine is a 16 year old sophomore, and it is her second year at North Broward Preparatory school. She is an accomplished performer and prominent member of the fine arts academy. Jasmine has been performing since age 4, and currently spends up to 8 hours a day rehearsing her singing, dancing, and acting. She enjoys bringing characters to life, and hopes to do the same with her ideas surrounding connection. She is passionate about connecting with others from the stage, and is happy to connect with you! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

It’s sad this has so few views. She’s addressing a topic that affects all of us in an understandable way. We weren’t created to thrive without love. If we cancel everyone out, we will all die much faster. The reason we cancel is because love is absent in our souls. Love is patient / long-suffering and is willing to ‘suffer long’ with someone’s strange idiosyncrasies. When people get blocked, it sometimes speaks more of the lack of love of the one who blocked them, rather than those who had gotten blocked. Unless the person who was blocked / cancelled, had no concern to be loving to the other person who blocked them. The person who loves you the most tells you the most truth about yourself, in a way of gentle concern.

We could collectively smoke a joint and watch Step Brothers together. That would fix everything

The origins of Cancel Culture had started at the beginning of mankind. Cancel Culture has existed in religion ( the difference between which caused war), politics, economics, etc. It is not a new concept.

America’s culture wars have spilled over into geopolitics and have now gone so far as to directly support the enemies of democratic freedoms. I speak of both the ‘far right’ and the ‘far left’. Search: The Middle Way Quote: The challenge in walking the Middle Way is that extremists on both sides only see their enemy walking behind you.

You sorely underestimate the amount of power and resources you need to have in order to convince the whole public to ostricize someone...

It's the same power (luck) you need to make a KZread video. It becomes even easier when you shout about the nonsense in popular media. Its a safe topic that will rally the horde, without actually doing anything. It's not power, it's not brave, it's the same product on the bandwagon.

You underestimate how manipulative people can be. Technology has eased the access for nobody’s to have their voice heard all around the world. Unfortunately theres very very little regulation in majority of whats uploaded online so trying to assume something is right or wrong becomes difficult to an extent. Majority of society is lazy and will take things at face value, especially something they dint understand. It’s so easy to make people agree with you without any form of supporting empirical evidence.

Why not though? Not everyone gets along and agrees with everyone. But overcoming that fact and coexisting despite the fact sets us apart from the rest of the animals of this world. We HAVE to unite my brother our neighbors are NOT the enemy.

Up until recently if you wanted to be social you had to be around people, you had to do it around lots of other people probably in a somewhat public setting and you didn't really have control over who was going to be there. This was an important part of people's social worlds because there was always that person or two that annoyed you but you learned the skill of getting along instead of thinking you can control every space or have a "safe space". You're founding presumption just isn't accurate... There are many regularly occurring situations in a healthy society where you don't have control over who you're around.
