Cancel Culture Is Real - Andrew Doyle

A common misconception is that cancel culture is simply a matter of “holding the powerful to account”. The failure of activists to cancel J. K. Rowling is often cited as evidence that cancel culture is a myth. BUT...

Someone in my daughter's class was recently suspended for criticising a fellow classmate. This classmate was trans. Children are not mature enough to process modern gender ideology, and rather than the critical child being excluded, perhaps the headmaster should speak with the trans pupil's parents and explain that childhood is difficult enough already without them peddling their entitled and delusional "progressive" ideology through their child, who almost certainly doesn't fully understand what it represents, and forcing the rest of the class play pretend.

It’s a weird lesson we’re teaching people - simply proclaim yourself to be in a particular marginalized group, and suddenly doors will swing open, others will be silenced, and everyone will bow at your feet and cater to your every whim. Someone in my PMDD group proclaimed that they were bi-gender, and the administrators of the group then banned anyone who used female pronouns to refer to anyone else. In a group devoted to women supporting eachother over menstrual issues. We have only recently gotten PMDD recognized as a real problem. Now we aren’t allowed to acknowledge that it’s something that happens to women.

In 2018 a friend of mine held a women’s self esteem workshop in San Francisco. She received a barrage of hate mail claiming that by calling it a “women’s” workshop, she was transphobic. I feel pre-canceled. I cannot go to a new job and risk saying the wrong thing. So, I have opted out of many awesome opportunities when I learned more about the companies’ cultures and realized that the only way I would thrive there is if I parroted the party line. Because I would never be able to live with myself, I have passed. So, that is another part of this…those of us with non-woke views are not even applying for roles where we know we will be put in that position.

I couldn’t get a promotion at my CA university job, no matter how much I went above and beyond. At a certain point I had to come to the ugly conclusion that it had nothing to do with anything I was doing, as I saw less qualified, less educated, and less knowledgeable coworkers get promoted all around me. Some of whom I had trained. I wasn’t cancelled, but I felt like I had been used and abused. They were perfectly fine with letting me do all of the hard work, and giving everyone else the opportunities on my back. I tried to tell my family “it’s pretty obvious that I’m losing out on opportunities because I’m straight and white.” This was before the world became more blatant about their hatred of us. Now it’s out in the open and there’s no denying it. I wish I’d started my own business sooner. Where merit actually matters.

I partially avoided a Xmas party for this reason. There is a 6ft 2 "trans woman" who I didn't even realize identified as a woman because of how clearly male he is. He apparently has tits. I only noticed how he was a massive antisocial narcissist who swore at children. To give you an idea I've introduced myself, said hello, goodbye, offered to help him probably 20 times. He's spoken to me once. He's never even looked me in the face. He has 3 or 4 names and he's told me none of them. I've decided that next time I'm not going to let his paraphilia prevent me from going and if he talks about any bs I'm going to call him out on it. I'm even looking forward to it. I've already dealt with the pronoun issue and after wasting time trying not to use pronouns I've now started just referring to him as he.

Duh. Cancel culture is now codified in Legislation. Cancel culture cancels you for SEVEN years in Scotland. In Canada, there is proposed Legislation which provides for a LIFE SENTENCE for saying positive things about the Oil Industry. In addition there is proposed Legislation which provides a LIFE SENTENCE for un-defined Hate Speech. There is also a provision for LIFE SENTENCES for FUTURE hate crimes. As in all previous Totalitarian regimes in History, like Stasi East Germany, nasty neigbours, hateful children, disgruntled friends can turn you in by claiming you intend to commit a "hate crime" IN THE FUTURE! As well there may be a provision for cash rewards for turning in haters and future haters. It is over, folks, and we have allowed it and what you allow, you deserve. Camps will have to be built to accommodate all the "haters" and Diversity Will Set You Free (Veilfalt Macht Frei) will be inscribed over the gates. Just hope you get assigned to the "re-education" wing. I hear the organ harvesting wing is a bit unpleasant. Enjoy the repressive regimes we have allowed to arise throughout the Western World. Freedom is dead. Long live Totalitarian Oppression!

Unfortunately, the introduction of 'hate speech' laws solidifies and encourages the cancel culture. What was that opinion? I'm being treated unfairly for looking different from everybody else. A lot of the time, people are accused of threatening safety. If they've held their position for 10 or 20 years, they're demonstrably not stabbing people left, right and centre. And if you'd try and get a garbage man fired, then it sounds like you're endorsing running people out of town (where a lose of financial security might be a cost that you're exacting on their children, etc). If the direct utility is limited, then it just stresses the cruelty and intimidation. Look, I don't imagine someone is going to call for you to get fired, and then help you look for a job with equal pay while helping you with your family's medical bills. There are some scenarios where you should want someone to lose a particular position. If you had a journalism professor tell students to make up quotes to support a political position, that would be disqualifying. FOR THAT ROLE. But that wouldn't justify a glee to their destruction. If you have a mob and they're having a great time, then it's a carnival atmosphere, regardless of whether you have vendors selling hotdogs. If you're not a sadist, then you could still wish well on a person whose life you just messed with. Or if you think their view disqualifies them FOR ALL ROLES FOR ALL TIME, then you are destroying their lives.
