The pandemic literally changed how I think to a ridiculous degree. Before I essentially was a light reactionary. After watching conservatives refuse scientific data for several months i got leveraged out of that so quickly. Its weird cause a fair amount of my views were progressive. Its just that i got wrapped up with disliking singular insular takes from the insane people on the left. So i wouldnt call myself leftist in a kinda protest to the left that the right wants people to believe exist. I still wont call myself a leftist because i dont believe in labels. But for simplicities sake i am a leftist. I now question capitalism the way i used to question communism and socialism. And also have recognized some socialist governments work very very well. Specifically white ones. Because our government cant market the invasion and destabilization of a white country. There are plenty of things ive learned from accepting 1. That there are insane dumbasses on both sides. Including the left. 2. Im actually a social Democrat. Its funny too cause i had all the historical knowledge to show myself that capitalism absolutely doesnt work. Im a hugggeeee history buff when it comes specifically Teddy Roosevelt. Hes just super interesting. During Teddy's presidency he had to give the lower classes human rights. Because human rights are in the way of business. During the time that capitalism was rampant in america. We had no human rights that i could see. Beyond that i also was essentially became disillusioned with everything else. All the sudden, i realized freedom from tyranny also means freedom to be absolutely nut cases like these guys. And facism would never allow this stupid shit to happen. So our freedom also protects idiocy. Im not willing to get rid of freedom. But i now understand why a facist can want that. I put together that democracy doesnt really work. And certainly doesnt work when democracy is a mask for a corporate oligarchy. I basically fell down a rabbit hole and landed on the fact that were fucked no matter what. This led me to my new philosophy, basic systems of society are like mathematical functions. They are all perfect. However, these functions can be corrupted in practice. The way we as humans corrupt these systems is by using our lower forms of thinking, such as instincts like "take as much of the workers money as possible" this is greed as a result of a rampant need for survival that humans have inherently. Capitalism falls apart because humans suck. Capitalism could work if imperfect humans werent involved. This isnt exactly a proof for all the systems. But i believe it works. Human imperfection is stalin killing lenin and fucking up the ussr. Facism would work if the leaders were good people. But they arent. And i think thats true with everything. We ruin all that we touch. Religion could be good for our mental health if people werent evil. It changed alot of how i think. I no longer blame the system but the people who corrupt it. Democracy doesnt work because people pay politicians to hold up certain inustries because they want to have money so they can have food so they can feed their families.

FYI: when temperatures dip below freezing, everything in the environment freezes hard and this means that noise reflects off frozen surfaces much louder than normal. Which makes horns much louder.

As a Canadian it's really heartbreaking to see these people blind to the actual freedom of choice taken away in our country. We have a cellphone provider triopoly, a housing market (thats majority not owned by the people living in the actual homes) which is beyond comparable to who we try to compare ourself to, and practically only two actually parties we can vote for (one is horrendous and everytime they are in control it's constant cleanup afterwards, and the current party in charge should be studied by bird watchers for how good they are at fence sitting and allowing these hogs to breed), and to top it all off people love to use the phrase "communist Canada", businesses have been able to use dirty conservatives to push laws that liberals quiver and cave in to.

@Kal Klenkem you are making a choice against public health measures by not taking a vaccine. Choices like that have consequences like not being able to work at a job where you are a health risk to other co-workers. There are jobs that allow you to work without a vaccine still. I personally find it sad when a group rallies for freedom but proceeds to fight for personal choices that hurt public safety rather then fight against the government. Scientiest aren't the ones at these big companies that are in it for the money, that's the shareholders. I don't like the government very much but i do like it when they listen to public health experts during pandemics. I don't however like how the government bows down to the companies that control most aspects of our lives (housing, banking, cell networks, and car companies). So instead of getting all upset when you are asked to do what's best for the health and safety of others because you don't like big man in suit telling you what to do. We try to focus our anger at the government for when actual freedoms concerning choice are taken away from us.

The most ironic thing is that all businesses were open before these protests but now in downtown a good amount are closed / not getting any business because of them lmao. The dude saying " I can't get a haircut, go skiing, go to the gym..." you can do LITERALLY ALL OF THAT IN ONTARIO. ALSO SUPER IMPORTANT! : An angle that NO news station is covering it seems is the harassment to service workers at businesses / restaurants. A friend works at a restaurant and has gotten yelled at in person, and over the phone for requiring vax pass / masking. Then he goes back home after work just to be kept up by constant honking. Its fucking horseshit.

My sister lives in Ottawa and I just asked her how she's dealing with all of this. She said that the protesters have shut down the city busses so she now has to walk to school (which is 45 minutes away and it's during winter). During her walk, she gets constantly harassed for wearing a mask. She can't even go to the grocery store without protesters yelling at her and threatening her for wearing a mask. Small businesses and malls have been closed for a while and people have lost their jobs because these assholes insist on making everything worse. Even though a state of emergency was declared, it has done basically nothing.

When there are TEMPORARY lockdowns, they are to take a load off the healthcare system, which is trash - which is another discussion. I’m not saying that I love mandates but they are necessary to keep the economy rolling. Private companies are in their rights to require their patrons to meet requirements: no shirt, no pants, no service. It’s about doing your civic duty for the vulnerable in society. Wear a mask, get vaccinated to lower your virus load + the likelihood of requiring medial aid. Not hard.

They don't realize that the governments that are implementing these mandates are Capitalists who want to remain Capitalists. They want to make as much money as possible, as quickly as possible. The mandates are costing money, but they are essential to public health. We'd be done with this bullshit if all the hogs could be adults, take responsibility, and do what is right for society. The truckers are generating a bottleneck that is damaging their economy. They are the ones who are killing the business. No rights are being taken away, and all they have to do is be responsible adults.

A buddy of mine is a trucker...where he works, there are about 50 truckers. Only 2 of them aren't vaxxed..those 2 have been told to shut the fuck up about vaccines

I live in downtown Vancouver, and we had the truckers come through our area. My husband works in a hospital and was told not to wear his scrubs outside of the building because they were blocking hospitals and protesting health care workers. That's where I draw the line to 'protest', and I think it's the majority consensus we agree these people are asshats. We're rooting for everyone in Ottawa :(

The people who have never travelled anywhere that required vaccines are shocked and appalled that it has been the case for decades. I had to explain vaccine passports so many times in the past year. People are blissfully unaware that they can't just go anywhere they want or do anything they want. Countries have a right to deny you entry, happens all the time.

From what I can gather, about 85% of Canadian truckers are vaxxed. The protest is made up of a small minority of actual truckers and the rest (including a number of organizers) are non-trucker chuds who merely view this as an opportunity to spread their bullshit.

You're both wrong. The one thing you did get right is the fact Canada has an extremely high vaccination rate. In fact it's above 90%. The PM has absolutely zero justification for keeping the masks, restrictions and mandates in place, absolutely zero! And that is why the protesters have said "enough is enough". What reason does he have for keeping these measures in place other than the fact he doesn't want to give up his authority?

People literally get ripped from the only possible home they have in encampments, but these people who CHOOSE to be in Ottawa in the cold are crying about fuel being taken from them. As right-wing people say "just leave/go home then". Edit: these people also are all for private owned companies and homes etc...but when those private owned companies do what they want they cry. Right-wing people are literally so close to grasping that capitalism = bad but they can't see it.

They keep repeating "it's not a siege, it's not an occupation, it's just a bunch of trucks honking their horns" in medieval times when an army wanted to capture a castle first thing they did is surround it and cut off supply chains (doesn't really apply here) and the second thing they did? they had horns blaring 24/7 to prevent the besieged from getting any rest, to demoralize them... also heard a few of them referring to themselves as "the silent majority" :/ sry you're not silent & nowhere near the majority. The stupidity of those people is depressing ,at least thankfully i can barely ever hear them anymore...

Yeah, northern Michigan - north of the thumb - is really reactionary. It’s a lot of folks that go camping and hunting as recreation and a few regional figures back in the 90’s whipped up reactionary fear over hunting regulations put in by the Michigan DNR. Now all they go on about is how many, and what kind guns they can have, and how many deer and fish they can hunt to ‘feed their families’ even though everyone damn well knows the buck deer they shot is gonna become a taxonomic plaque in daddy’s office.

These events are over-seen by some kind of special services, not your average cops, and they won't play games with enormous rigs. I agree with you in general about what white right extremists get away with. So sick of these people. I live by the legislative buildings in my province. There is no other way for me to get to my evening job than walking through these jerkoffs. Extra irony as I work for the Canadian Federal Government during the day. I have been threatened with physical and sexual violence every time I try to get to work. While these threats continue, the police protect the protest and their right to do so. Meanwhile, my day job is to protect the social safety net that supports these people while they are out of work. Why are the people who ask me for money the same people that threaten my safety as I try to make my way to my to my second job to support my family, all the while trying to keep my family and fellow citizens safe.

@@skyty0 Yes. Trucks often have adjustable covers over the grill called "winterfronts" which help keep the diesel engine operating at a near optimal temperature in freezing temperatures. They also help prevent the grill and radiator from getting packed full of snow while driving through a storm.
