Have had this bag for years, still love it to this day, no breakdowns at all. The super-velcro front pockets are great for things you don't want to lose, but still have readily accessible. Great simple review!

Had this exact bag almost 15 years and counting as my daily carry. Just as many years One Bag international travel. 40L Eagle Creek pack as carry on bag with the Mission Creek bag as my personal item / laptop bag. Can easily carry three laptops and very easy to get stuff out and put stuff in at security. Plus in the cabin it will squeeze in anywhere so never any hassle from check-in / cabin crew. Even Air France no problems. When needed can get a huge amount of stuff in it. Its pretty indestructible. Only sign of wear after 15 years is slight fraying of the shoulder strap. Bag also faded a bit as its been washed a few times. It got quite a beating on some trips. But reckon it will last as long as my Eagle Creek bags. 30 years plus for one of them which is still in great condition despite being around the world a few times. For international travel nothing beats a messenger bag as your personal carry on item / laptop bag when going through security and just dumping in it your travel food / water / small hip pack (to hang off the seat in front of you).

I've had the Shed, the larger version of this bag, for literally a decade. It is not a good travel bag, because it's not a backpack or a duffle. Messenger bags in general are not good travel bags because they are utterly shapeless and have few handholds, which makes them awkward to put into the overhead bin. They're good as personal items, if a bit large, but not as the main haul carry for traveling. I did it once with this bag and never did it again. The rolltop is for weatherproofing and expandability. When it's rolled, the main compartment is basically waterproof, but that's also the main reason I don't use it anymore; I don't get any rain in my area, so I preferred the easier access of a more traditional Timbuk2-style messenger bag over the weatherproofing. Ultimately I think this is a pretty awkward bag for anyone who isn't a cyclist. It's designed to have the same kind of storage capacity as a large backpack, but if you tried to carry that much stuff on just a shoulder strap you'd just end up with scoliosis. I suppose that's why Mission Workshop is primarily a backpack company now, because their backpacks are great. Similar features, but waaaaay more comfortable to carry.
