Yes huge gap. Kurt is only NM btw, but still Hikaru is rated 1000 higher.

I knew Kurt when he was in High School. He volunteered with me at a small local childrens' summer chess program. He once mentioned that he was spending more time with music than chess. I thought at the time that if he applied himself to music as much as he had to chess, I would definitely hear about him again!
