The way I do it is I bounce off the board and go for height. My rotation starts to go back as I come off the board and I tuck in my legs to add to the rotation

Going for height 👍🏼 I think that’s the right approach. It’s how I think of my Double front flips. I’m just in the habit of jumping far away from the board for all back flips.

Hey Luke, I'm back again, hope your jumping has been going well. Have you tried a jump-and-turn gainer? I doubt that's what it's officially called, but it's where you stand at the end of the board, squat and swing your arms back, then jump up and forward while bringing your arms up and forward too, and as your body gets out over the water, suddenly turn 90 degrees to the left and do a back flip. So you end up doing the gainer perpendicular to the diving board. This trick was clearly created out of fear of hitting one's head, so it's kind of a cop-out, but it ends up looking really cool, i would say cooler than a true gainer.

No, but I WILL TRY THIS!!!! It reminds me of the Arabian (backwards jump, turn, front flip) , but the reverse of that (forwards jump, turn, backflip!). It sounds awesome! If it goes viral do we call it the Echo Trip!?!?

@@LeisureLuke - Haha, I definitely can't claim it as my own. I've seen guys doing it here in Germany. So i figured it must be elsewhere too. But I can't find it on youtube. So maybe you could be the first person to put on youtube!

You don't have to run up so much and try to jump so far forward for a gainer. The diving board will already send you out over the pool because of the way it angles when it flexes, so you can just bounce jump and throw your arms up and forward (to about 10 or 11 o'clock, not straight overhead) and then tuck by bringing both legs up to meet your hands.

You’re correct on the form. I used to be able to do a standing back tuck, so you’d think this would be easier for me, but I’m full beans and still nervous about clearing the diving board. In some attempts I was too close to the board even with the run up. If I’d have straightened my legs on early attempts I’d have smashed my ankles on the board. If I was on a meter board I’d do it as you described. I’m just not doing them on this board anymore. :)

@@LeisureLuke - Oh yeah, the board needs to have enough flex. It's also best to use your knees coming up to drive the rotation of the tuck. Too often people start rolling their head back before bringing their knees up.

For me it’s easier to run from the side (not being on the diving board) run and jump off 1 foot. It’s sorta dangerous cause if you slip it’s probably not going to end well so..
