Can I make Bonsai from walnut (Juglans regia) ?
In this video i am slip potting this walnut plant that I have grown from seed to a bigger pot. It's really hot weather right now so I don't want to touch the roots. Checking the root I will do in the autumn.

I planted six walnuts last year from seeds that sprouted in very strange conditions - in a metal bowl, behind the microwave, with the very occasional condensation drip from the heating pipes above. Two of them went on to hatch from the ground last summer and now I'm thinking of potting them.

Squirrels plant me a new crop every year! Just yesterday i thought of doing a walnut bonsai. My first year of trying. I'm 62...am i too old to start? Just subbed!

Never to late to start with bonsai 😁 but I think the walnut will not be the best to start with. It's not the best tree to bonsai because of the leaf size but it always fun to play around with. Tank you for the sub! 🙏

@@TreeVibes thanks! Actually, I already have a few Japanese maples and some beeches that are just in the "getting used to the pot" stage. Live on edge of old growth beech, maple and oak forest. Avg beech age is 150+. Literally hundreds of beech saplings every year, but they cannot overcome the dense canopy and perish...maybe 10% or less survuve. 7a East Tennessee .( Daniel Boone walked through my yard...old part of the world!)

I cut the leafs just because it was repotted in the middle of summer and it was hot and didn't want it to drink to much water. If you want it to grow you don't cut anything.

I have a walnut volunteer in a garden and would like to leave it there and keep it small, do you have any tips,

By regularly pruning it you can keep it small and bushy. But do this in end of summer cos they bleed.

Then it can possibly be dug up if you get down and get as much as possible of the taproot 😁

It was growing wild in my backyard I originally thought it was a normal black walnut until I dug it up the stem was weak I originally intended to shape it to a normal black walnut but it didn’t shape it straight so I decided to us it’s natural shape and tied it up to keep the shape it’s in a pot now
