CAMPING IN RAIN under a self made shelter.

solo camping under this bushcraft shelter I made from a sheet made to protect mild steel from bad weather.
winter camping can be hard work because we are working against the weather.
I would not say my shelter comes under a survival shelter or a bushcraft survival shelter or even a primitive technology skilled building shelter.
As you can see within my video, I make a simple shelter to keep the rain off me.

no need to put holes in the tarp, just find a round stone or acorn and wrap tarp around it then tie the cord around it, makes a great fastening with no holes needed . its what they used in the stone age

There’s an ancient feeling that when you’re in any shelter and it’s raining it makes you feel so content and relaxed in a shelter. It’s an ancient sense that we have.

193 Glad the pebble idea was cited. I would put the ridge line high because I prefer a hammock. Fix the tarp to one side of the ridge two - feet off centre and use a second tarp. That would give nine odd feet clear and act as a roof tile so no rain gets in.

We enjoyed the video. Suggestion, at some point in the future try this again with a bit bigger tarp. And instead of a peak in the center, try an 'L' shape. The longer part of the L of the tarp going from the rope to the ground, slanted away from your back. The shorter part of the 'L' like a canopy over your head and staked out from the corners. As long as tarp is at least as long as your height, then it should cover you well. The length of the tarp to make the L shape should be much longer as the L shape will be your shelter. The longer it is the more shelter you create. You did good. If you are having to bug out and that tarp is all you had, you proved it would make a shelter. It's just it would be a small shelter.

That was a very muddy camp. Good to see something a bit different and great to use a sheet that was only meant to cover a metal sheet. Using the rope already there was a good thing too. A couple of people have already said a pebble or acorn tucked into the tarp and the paracord wrapped around it. Great when you can find them but a sharp stone will tear through in a wind. Buttons particularly a large coat button would work put into the corner of the tarp as if it is in a fist and the para cord. Maybe you could have another go with the improv. tarp and use it another way. It looked a bit narrow to keep out rain even with a light breeze. Some people have no respect for the land or other peoples property shame on them.

Love watching your channel Dan because although you might not realise, you pass on lots of useful tips and info during your "ramblings" 😉 I know which facebook group those comments were on, I saw them too and had a chuckle 😂 Love the improvisation with your blue tarp and the rope you found. My first solo wild camp was just me, my dog, a 3x3m tarp and food/drinks. I just kept my clothes on, wore decent waterproofs and lay on the tarp on the ground with 3/4 of it wrapped over me & my dog. It did rain a bit overnight but I was dry & warm wrapped up in my tarp cocoon 😆 Length of daylight is determined by the earth's position in relation to it's orbit around the sun 😉 Keep up the great videos Dan.

just ignore anyone online who gives you hate im of the "internet generation" and alot of these people are miserable living sad lives. honestly not worth worrying about. most people who come across this channel will recognise that its actually a nice guy doing what he loves in front of a camera. keep going mate, heres to 100k in the future.

Audio differences are minimal. We like to see things that fail as well as those that succeed. Get wild camping in abandoned buildings scary places 👍🏻

How ya Dan. Think I saw a video of you with a Kelly kettle one time. No gas or igniter issues with the KK. Yeah, I know, a bit bulky but they're an amazing piece of kit. Kettle, stove, mini fire pit, grill.. you can do so much with it. I have all the gas gadgets but I'll have my Kelly Kettle over them any day if the trip allows 😁
