Hehehe, those gloves are actually anti-cut gloves. You wear those when rolling the chimney and assembling the stove. Both have very sharp edges and they provide gloves instead of rounding the metal edges. But, good idea re vents though. They might also be heat resistant. 🤞🏻

I'm a Derbyshire lass who now lives in the US. Some US accents are hard for me to understand when I watch something so I put subtitles on. I have no problem understanding you. I thoroughly enjoy your videos - but you do make me homesick for good British bangers because there's nothing anywhere close to them here.

Hey Dan, I have a couple of suggestions for you. Firstly, you said earlier about you might struggle to carry all the gear needed for a hot tent winter camp. You can get small 4 wheeled camping trolleys/carts that would be ideal for you. Secondly, I am glad to see you took my advice and got the Mora Carbon knife. I have the same one and use it for all sorts of things eg: opening hot metal grates on fires (hint hint). And thirdly: I would suggest you get a Bibury Multi Tool Pro. They are just like the Leatherman multi tool only £100 cheaper. I have used it every day since I bought it 6 months ago. It's a bit heavy but the uses it has is amazing. Hope this helps.............

The top vent is like you say to keep the glass from sooting up. My wood burner at home has an air wash feature that keeps the glass clean during a fire. I alway split a piece of kindling, stick whatever to slide the vents. Saves your fingers. Or some decent leather gloves. Great video mate, me & my little lad had the hot tent out on Friday night.

A lot of people(who don't camp) think we slum it when we're out, and I know you can just sleep on the ground with a blanket and tarp and fire, but you look at the cost of some of the top end camping gear, you could spend the night in a nice 4* hotel, with a warm bath and breakfast brought to you in the morning, but wheres the fun in that??? 😅

Another idea Dan, thsts not a harm to environment... maybe worthwhile to help you relax more ... when you know the ground is gonna be messy with mud ... Maybe invest in a bale of hay to lay on the ground before tent put up ? It just degrades back into ground ,been natural and it should keep the mess of mud down quite a bit. Plus a bit òf added insulation to ground temp .

Finally got some snow here, too. Spent the night stealth camping in -4C with a hammock and tarp that blended in perfectly. I must admit, I cooked up two mutton chops, used the drippings on two sesame seed rolls, some garlic, roasted a yellow squash and made two sandwiches. OMG, delicious!! I then made a Pine needle and Wintergreen leaf tea to sip at while the snow fell and I talked away at the camera. I hope I have a few good snow falls this winter, but who knows, I'll post them on my channel if I do. The forest I usually camp in is over a million acres and said to be the most haunted in North America, but it's a second home to me :) I love your content M8, always a comfort to see you've uploaded! I lived in England for 4 years in my early teens. I loved the diversity of the accent, but took a little learning at first - lol.

'Grass Fed' is at least sort of free-range. Cattle trample more grass than they eat while they graze so it won't hurt my feelings if growers cut fresh grass and feed them in paved lots.

  • @deekelley891

Cattle turn the soil as they graze, which is good for the land and 85% of the nutrients back to the soil. That provides a healthy ecosystem. When they are not able to move about the land and are penned up or ranchers don’t manage their pasturing, soil compaction occurs and that is when problems arrive. Like in pens…

Hi Dan, Winter has hit us now! I was thinking as you adjusted the tent guys how good it would be to show the basics of setting up and striking camp with the different tents. There are a lot of young people out there who have no clue about camping making the tent work as it should and clearing the ground when we leave, making sure there are no tent pegs or rubbish left behind. Having someone down to earth like you would be great showing the basics for young people. I remember you coming across the tent that had just been left where some youngsters had been on glue/ gas party and thought someone like you could show how to make a really good camp and how to cook a meal( it doesn't have to be steak or even a hot tent stove) There is a lot of pleasure in being able to do things for yourself.

It’s perfectly fine to have the stove burning during the night. If you’re worried about fumes just bring a carbon monoxide detector. With a small stove it’s not worth it though since you’ll be constantly feeding it and won’t get any sleep. I have a bigger stove so I fill it up at bed and get up once during the night and fill it up again. And I do the same when I wake up. I still have a very good winter sleeping system so I don’t rely on heat. For me it’s about the whole experience.

I think the top vents improve the efficiency of the stove by allowing a secondary burn. This is where the unburnt gases given off by the wood get oxygen to burn. Love your videos and don’t worry about your accent it’s not that strong. CC wouldn’t work if it was!
