CalMet Services of Lomita Pt. 2

READ DESCRIPTION IF INTERESTED
So this past Thursday I went to Lomita to see a manual collection done by the scout truck with a dumpster attached, which is then collected by the FL afterwards. Hopefully you got what I meant lol Arriving in the city limits of Lomita I saw the CNG Pete Elliptical FL right away, I followed it around a bit but I didn't know which direction it was headed as it was going all over the place. So after abandoning the truck, I saw a Volvo in the distance. Pancho was supposed to have his normal truck back by Wednesday, I asked him about it he said that he should back in it by the end of the week or the beginning of this week. Remembering that another one of them was recently used, I asked Pancho if he knew where the other one was. He told me to go up the hill and you'll find Jose (145) in 124 on recycles. I had to bike up into the hills of the Lomita Pines, I then found Jose going down the steepest hill I've been on most likely measuring 60 degrees +
This day was very nostalgic as I remember these trucks roaming in the streets of Lomita back in Sept 2009 - Sept 2011. It was nice to see a pure Volvo route out there that day, unlike West Carson which was pure Elliptical that day. I believe Jose didn't rev most likely because of the steep hills, or the Volvo is fast enough even at idle. Either way it was entertaining to watch imo.
This is how the routes are done on Thursdays. South of P.C.H. within Lomita city limits, preferably the hills of Lomita are done. Pancho and Jose doing greens and recycles in the morning, go dump at the Carson Transfer Station, lunch break and come back sometime in the Late AM or early PM for trash. They start much earlier like at 6 because of the bigger route day. I believe Mon & Wed are the only days that start at 7:30. Pancho and Jose finished their first load at 10 which was impressive. I believe they return 11-1 not sure and finish at 2-3 as usual. You could also see Jose packing out a bit and all the recycling spilling a bit at times. You can't blame him, recycling is a bitch when you're trying to collect and pack at the same time. He did a good job nonetheless as usual.
A portion of West Carson is done by Felipe on trash, Roque on greens, and the other Jose on recycles - all day.
CalMet has 5 Volvos: 120-124 left as spares. I believe 120 and 124 are used by the Lomita & Oceanview/La Rambla/West Carson GDD. I also believe 121-123 are used by the Paramount/Downey and Cerritos/Commerce contracts. I'm not sure but they're maybe still some White GMCs still lying around, but not here.. 120 is usually used by the greens drivers and then 124 by the trash & recycling drivers. 124 has been used by Jose (141) 2 weeks ago, Jose (145) this past week, and by Felipe back in November. 120 has been only used by Pancho for a good amount of times. Trucks 120-124 were used by these drivers back then, so it's kinda fun to see them back in their old trucks. I believe 120 was Pancho's truck as he always uses it as a spare. Also check out my flickr for a google map find of 122 in Lomita back in 2011 before they had an auto county contract, meaning that they didn't have a county signboard.
In this video you will see Jose (145) in 124 on recycles and also Pancho in 120 on greens tag teaming in the background.
Also notice how the truck has some red!
Anyways, that's it and hope you guys enjoy!

Sanitation727 Oh looking forward to the footage! Any idea when it will be up? Cool to see some more older trucks still lying around. Yes 120-124 are spares. You're so lucky you have an old truck as a regular truck, but weird that an Elliptical is a spare there lol and thanks for commenting!

good looking, quick truck...that's always nice to see. And who cannot love a good ol' Volvo Xpeditor. The tailgate tape looked great. Really hope a different Volvo makes it out here one of these days. Great video!

120-124 are the best ones! They are quick, flip lids, and quiet.the new models they have now are super slow, the chain on arm seems like its stuck half the time and they focus too much on keeping the lid closed
