Great! Thank you for this quick, and simple visual walk through. That really helped!!

You also have to factor in adding 1/2 of the diameter circumference of the lateral. Ie., if you have a sewer lateral that is 14" than it would be .5 of 14"= 7" of 7"/12 or adding in 0.5833 to the invert elevation to get accurate slope.

Your horizontal distance is drawn as a diagonal (which in such case would be a diagonal distance of 55.01)

You are correct, but when we're teaching it to a pipe layer we need to keep it simple. The run is 54', but the difference is so small that the slope percentage is barely affected. From a quality standpoint, the pipe will still hit grade using this process.

In practical way it means that every 100 inches it will rise 1.8 inches? Is it that correct?

Where u get the 104 and 105 from?

The rise is measured by feet or inches

You would use the same unit of measure for the rise and run. So if the run is in inches, use inches for the rise. If the run is in feet, and your rise is in inches, you need to convert the rise from inches to feet by dividing the inches by 12.

104.5 is the rise level or run level❓

thats the next manhole invert(104.5), the feet was 55 between both manholes invert of top manhole was 105.5. so 105.5-104.5 =1 1/55 = .018 .018x100 or .018 always move decimal place 2 over. = 1.8% of fall or slope of run

i think he also said it was a pipe. the picture just looks weird. not sure why you would put that into another water connection with the math or sewer unless its a system. so a better picture of manhole would've been better

They say i have a 9.4% slope but the run is 44 inches. Then the rise is 4 inches??
