I think Caitlin is one of the few people who's looking at this in the common sense way it needs to be done. It's not emotional, it's a matter of just science and how men and women are built differently....period!

I love the common sense and respect that Caitlyn has. This is the thing that people don't understand. Most people will be accepting and give respect if they also get it. We, on our own, will be supportive if given a chance verses what is going on now with the excessive and forced trans/pride movement etc. When it comes to biological men in sports in my opinion that isn't fair but again, if it's not a forced issue I'll bet we could come up with something that worked for everyone to be fair and respectful to all. Now when it comes to all the teaching all this stuff in schools, drag queen hour etc, that is a HARD no. Stay away from the kids. These issues should be dealt with by God, the parents, and whatever professional they seek and vet for their particular situation. Quit trying to indoctrinate childen. When you are an adult, such as Caitlyn, live your life as you choose and we will respect your decisions as a grown person capable of your own critical thinking regarding your own life and how you want to live it.

@@ChristalBowlbyI fully agree. I spoke to my daughter, using age appropriate words, about her body and it's functions. I answered her questions truthfully as she grew. One day, when walking in the park, she said "mom, those 2 women are kissing". I looked over and told my daughter how some women fall in love with women and boys fall in love with boys. She accepted my answers. She is now a lovely straight young woman who has respect for others. 2 of her closest friends are a married couple of young men. I really love how they look out for my girl. I don't want others doing my job in this matter. I'm more concerned that children are made aware of stranger danger and know that their body is theirs alone. Teachers should concentrate in that.

@@ChristalBowlby I agree, everyone should have a right to choose for themselves but I don't think we want our school systems to be the voice of what's acceptable and what's not. Fantastic conversation! I'm a 55-year old lesbian who came out in 1984 so I've seen it all. That was back before it was even LGB. And I knew trans folks starting in 1988 and loved them back then. In fact, what struck me was how they were all quite mature, compassionate people which I attributed in part to the struggles they'd survived. It's been thrilling to see society embracing (in large part) the LGBTQ community because I literally never thought I'd see the day that I could openly marry another woman. I absolutely think Bruce/Caitlyn deserves a lot of credit for moving the trans community forward. And, Caitlyn is so pretty and a beautiful person. She's one hot 73-year old woman! 😍 I also agree that biological males should play men's sports. I don't see why they can't play with men AND be allowed to dress/behave feminine. Let them be themselves while playing men's sports. It's a tough issue for sure. Thank you both.

As a biologist and later RN, it is absolutely not fair for trans women to compete with biological women. As a a biologist, I studied biology of the human both male and women. Men are biologically of superior strength but not endurance. That award goes to women. Later I as a RN, I was able to observe the strength between men and women. There was no comparison. The nursing staff lifted patients all day long. A male could easily out lift 3 women. I actually witnessed a male nurse pick up a male patient having a grand mal seizure off the floor like a baby!! Also, male nurses and aids that I worked with never complained of back pain like women did. We all had back pain. After working as a nurse for 35 years, I am now retired. Unfortunately, my back is wrecked and I am disabled. Don’t feel sorry for me. I loved nursing and would not change a minute of it. It was heck of a lot more exciting than being in a lab all day as a biologist. 😊 Deborah Chapman, RN, BS, BSN, MSN

@@deborahchapman222 awww you’re so cute! No thanks necessary … I owe your whole profession the thank you.! 2 more quick (sorta) stories: 1. I had appendicitis after having my 3rd child and I made sure to go back to the same hospital (because of the care i'd received). Of course the nurses were different, but they were still just as amazing! When i was discharged I asked my husband if it would be OK if we walked through the same floor I had our daughter before we leave? I think I was having separation anxiety from those wonderful people. 2. Two years ago I got a call that my father was in ICU and close to dying. I raced into town (we lived in different states), hoping to get there before it was too late. When I arrived he wasn’t able to talk anymore but they said and he could probably hear me. I cried harder than i ever had in my life. I remember seeing this young nurse in the corner of the room, and she was crying too! I thought to myself she doesn’t even know me or my dad poor young lady must have such an emotionally draining job to be that vested in 2 strangers. After my dad passed, she gave me a little vile that had his heartbeat curled up inside of it from one of the machine's (sorry not sure which one...ekg maybe?). That was quite, possibly the sweetest most kindest thing I’ve ever been given in my life.

I find exactly the same looking after patients, some of which I am unable to roll on my own, while another is washing. Men can roll the same patient and reach over and wash at the same time. Sometimes I find that when old ladies get used to having a man help them and then they get me, they take one look at me and refuse to move. I don't look safe enough in their eyes. My nephew got stuck up a tall structure when he was tiny. He would not move as I went up for him but had trust in my male friend immediately

It doesn't matter at that point. But when you have a highly competitive level when it comes down to fractions of seconds, and there are scholarships at risk, gold medals, world championships and records, there has to be a stringent level of fairness, and things have to be at the chromosomal level.

I was a competitive swimmer and I want to thank you both of you for speaking out for women’s sports. You can support trans rights and oppose Lia Thomas and other bio males competing against bio women in sports. I support trans rights but oppose this insanity of having bio males compete against bio women. My son and I were talking about this issue recently and he turned to me and said it this issue would never happen to trans men because men would never tolerate it nor would the greater community. I see gay men who’ve never as much as run a 50 yard dash as the loudest supporters in favor of bio men cheating in women’s sports. This is a feminist issue and is a reminder that misogyny is alive and well in the LGBDQ community. Btw Martina was labeled a terf for speaking out against bio men participating in women’s sports and the glbdq rights community pilloried her, of all people, now if that isn’t insanity I don’t know what is. I’m also an athlete and wondered how Lia Thomas could live with herself, what I came up with was simple, the trans community isn’t any different than any other group and they have sociopaths in them, too.

But I think that I could sit down with her for hours, just listening to her rare perspective on life, and stories about anything. Her mind is still sharp as a tack as well. She is a pretty cool human being.

My heart goes out to the high school volleyball girl who played against a team with a trans person and she got clocked in the head with a ball the trans player hit. At that age, you have not developed the reactions to defend yourself against that type of physicality. After going through a college program, and then competing with men on a recreational level, you can become more defensive and can deal with a hard-hit ball. Not in high school! Back in the day, our volleyball coach would bring in some guys from his team to work with us. We were improving, but those guys were not going full-out by any means.

The answer is simple but because this is political everyone want to put their heads in the sand. Programs that have the honorable Mention program allow ANYONE to participate, it does not discriminate against people for gender, sexual orientation, or ability. If its a specific race for example female 400 meter dash people with qualifying time would be in the match. The winner for example if they are trans would get first place honorable mention but the specific event holder would get the first place and the accolades attached like NCAA qualification. Honorable mention could go all the way up to NCAA level. The only thing competitors would get is better without feeling they were duped out of anything which is the current stance because of the current politics. Local officials have not made these changes to draw the ire of people. (retyped several times because i have ADHD).

I believe we need to support "goals" but out of fairness to others not necessarily every single goal an individual can conjure up. If "Transitioning to another gender" is the goal, I don't have any issues with a person expressing their identity. ...BUT when you decide to make a cocktail out of your goals so it's "I want to transition AND also I want to participate in a competitive sport" it's a shift in "motive" that should not be allowed because it causes undue harm to another. Maybe I want to be a princess. I can buy myself a tiara, a regal looking mantle, an ornate chair that can be my thrown... I might even convince my friends and family to address me a certain way. For the most part all of that is my prerogative! BUT, should I attempt to levy a tax on the people in my neighborhood and demand special treatment... suddenly I am overstepping my boundaries in a way that creates harm towards others. Which is completely NOT acceptable.

A fascinating conversation. What if gender affirming care as it is applied today was applied to then, Bruce Jenner? No Olympic gold medals, no 10 children, 22 grandchildren. There is a cost and lives are changed forever. When to transition is a delicate issue. Are children / adolescents really capable of weighing the cost / benefits? Learning who you are takes time and evolves continually throughout a lifetime. Learning to accept, love and embrace who you are along the journey is one of the most valuable life skills.

This is one of the important podcast Lance has done over his whole career. Trans men beating women in women sports is absurd. It's really gut wrenching to see the look on these women's faces when they lose like that. I have a suggestion for trans men who want to compete, ever hear of doping under the radar? Just keep the one ball and go !

It's more complicated than just one ball. The structure of the muscle itself is completely different in men than women. (Male muscle has criss-cross bands giving men more strength and ability to build bigger muscle. Female muscle has straight bands giving women more flexibility to have babies.) Men have more muscle mass and a greater lung capacity. Even after transiting, all 3, muscle structure, muscle mass and lung capacity give men an advantage women do not have even if they transition. How many women that transition into men are competing and winning in mens sports? NONE! There is no advantage the other way. Therefore, it is not equal and should be banned!

This was such a great interview. Bruce Jenner was my hero when I was a young man. I was so disappointed when he transitioned to Caitlyn. Then several years ago, as a voting member in my church’s annual conference, I decided I needed to understand the LGBTQ+ issue and concentrated on transgenders. I read Caitlyn’s book but didn't understand being transgender. I gave her book to my sister who is a therapist and we had great discussions. Then I read Caitlyn’s book again and understood transgenders. I am a retired competitive swimmer and coached youth swimming teams for 13 years. The last year I coached there were 115 boys and girls on the team so I have a good feel for the sport. There are two kinds of people; those who divide everything into two groups, and those who don't. But, in reality you can't divide everything in two groups. For example, if that were the case, as far as color is concerned, there would only be black and white like the first photographs. But even then there were shades of gray. This is the same for people. What makes up a human being? Perhaps many years ago the YMCA displayed it best with it's tringle... Mind Body Spirit Therefore, there are three parts of a human being. A mind, a body, and a spirit. The body does not control the mind and the body does not control the spirit. So what is a woman? If you are speaking of the body we all know the answer. But the body is only one third of a human being. The mind is more powerful than the body as it controls the body and causes it to act. The spirit or soul is the life of the body and the mind. Jesus tells us when we go to heaven we neither marry or are given in marriage. So it appears that the soul is neither a woman or a man. Therefore, though it is rare, a body of one gender can have the mind of the opposite gender. And which is more powerful? The answer is the mind. The mind is what causes a body to transition. So what is a woman? Or what is a man?The answer is the mind of the human being. Is it male or is it female? However, there are no biological men who are women. They are transgender women. The same is true that there are no biological women who are men. They are transgender men. And, there is nothing wrong with being a transgender woman or man. If we look at the extreme sides that want to divide human beings into two groups then one side says there are no transgenders and the other side says transgender women are pure women and, neither side is correct. And as I said above, there is nothing wrong in being a transgender man or woman. In fact they have an advantage of being able to see the world from both the male and female perspective. The problem in women’s sports is we need to find a solution as everyone deserves to have the right to compete. Here are ideas to begin finding a solution: First in individual sports, transgender women should be allowed to complete in the women’s events but there should be an * by their name indicating that they are transgender and the woman who’s time is directly under the transgender woman should receive the same place award as the transgender woman. Second, unless the transgender woman has had bottom surgery she should not change to the women’s locker room. If the two above ideas were implemented it would be fair for everyone. By the way, I just flew using the brand new Kansas City International Airport and there is an All Gender Restroom. There are individual enclosed stalls and I felt very comfortable using the restroom. In conclusion, let's start finding solutions that are fair for everyone rather that taking sides and dividing everything into just two parts.
