Those were the days!
I was in 7th grade in 91 and remember this vividly. Those were some of the hands down best times in RC in my opinion. There were plenty of hobby shops in almost every town, there were great kit manufacturers, aircraft build parties with the club members, there was typically never a shortage of members flying at the field on any given day, and there weren’t any damn cell phones!! Kids these days would rather be on social media these days than enjoy a rewarding hobby that actually makes you learn skills that will be useful in life. Ok rant over. I really like what your channel is all about Andy.

Great video Andy.. Miss the Old School Days
I miss the old days. Thanks for sharing ❤
Oh yeah, this video came out a few years after I got into the hobby and our local club had this video (tape) in it's library so we could borrow it. There was nothing cooler than the Byron Strikes back show. The time and effort that went into that was just unmanageable. At that point I was flying a Great Planes PT 40 and just hoping some day I would be able to fly planes as big and cool as those. Thanks for posting this Andy, such good memories.
Gosh damn dude! This brings back so many memories. I still have my futaba 4 channels. Still cycle the batteries couple time a year. Byron was totally the original.
Love when you put these up. I'm a child of the 70s. I didn't have money in '78 as a junior higher (yes I said junior high and not middle school, I'm not PC) for RC but I used to go watch and hang out with a guy flying control line on one of the school large grass areas. I got the RC bug back then and eventually got into the hobby later on.
Very good!! Great video!! Fabulous years!!! Thanks for sharing.
I was there!!! What a great show every year!! Wish it was still going on there...
First year I got to go! Man I really miss these days!
Andy thanks so much for sharing, it was a great surprise to me too see 2 of my old flying buddies interviewed from Madison WI on here; Tom Lazar and Roy Porter; may the both rest in peace.
Let's make 2024 the nineties.

Pretty cool. I was in ida Grove a couple years ago. I think Byron now manufacturers plastic boat fenders. It was dead of winter so i didn't see any rc flying it sure gets cold there.
Seen more than one friend in there ! Know the guys lifting the SR 71, and some of the other planes.
Hi Andy, Never attended a Striking Back event, but 1991 was the year an auto accident made me disabled.

Fresh batteries and fresh fuel.....go fly!
I've been attending the Reno Air Races for a while, and I can't understand why they don't fly rc aircraft exhibition flights . Now, the improvements in model aviation has become more exciting.

Mixing full scale and rc has always been a challenge. Not sure why.......an airplane is a airplane!
I wonder what deb grubich is up to. Her then husband Paul fixed my ss40 back then. He was the president of my club in cedar Rapids iowa.
