Families all over Britain watched Bullseye on a Sunday. It was great and everyone rooted for the folk to win. Jim Bowen was a great host with some super derogatory things to say which made it even funnier. The times when we all had nothing…..but we had it all !

There was an episode that turned out in the same way. The first team that was eliminated (a couple of blokes from Belfast) ended up winning the star prize (also a car) and one of the guys dropped an F-Bomb after they'd won the car which couldn't be edited out so the episode was never broadcast. I'd love to see that one.

I always remember this finale - the third place guys winning the Metro. Magic television. Those were the days of REAL people, not the fake over-confident, professional gameshow contestants we have now. I utterly loathe the people on telly now. The audience loved Jim because he was natural and even fluffed his lines now and then. I'd rather watch old episodes of this than middle class crap like 'Pointless'.

Bullseye was one of those shows that wasn't really a game show, more like a bit of fun with darts and questions with some jokes thrown in. The prizes were excellent for the time, quite valuable, I always liked seeing Jim get cash out to hand to the contestants but the really great thing about the show was even if you were the first team to be eliminated, you could still be in with a chance of playing the final round if the other teams opted out, not many shows that would do that, once you were out you were out. All in all a great show with a great atmosphere with Jim and co. Never to be replicated.

He gave the *real* sense of participant/viewer interaction of having a bit of fun and ease about everything on the show. Nowadays, the presenters are too smarmy, political, ruthless etc. Too be honest, ITV's gameshow programmes back then produced *much more* of Jim Bowen's genre due to different TV regions/companies producing the shows, thus setting their standards, rules, atmosphere, which made their shows more unique and much better, compared to the nationalized likes of Brucie and Bob over on the Beeb. All went out the window with the 1990 British Broadcasting Act and the corpse finally being shelled with the 2003 ITV merger.

Did anyone notice that in the later series when they gambled the prizes they also gambled the money they won earlier? It was no longer "safe"!

Trouble is, the Metro would start to rust from the wheel-trims up after 6 months, and leak through the sun roof soon after... But jokes, Jom was truly a trooper, behind the contestants, all the way. He genuinely wanted everyone to win, just like we did. Nothing matches this, today. Happy Days!

The Metro quickly proved popular with buyers, a 19-year-old Lady Diana Spencer buying one of the early examples, and was regularly seen in it being hounded by the paparazzi just before her marriage to Prince Charles in July 1981.
