There was an episode that turned out in the same way. The first team that was eliminated (a couple of blokes from Belfast) ended up winning the star prize (also a car) and one of the guys dropped an F-Bomb after they'd won the car which couldn't be edited out so the episode was never broadcast. I'd love to see that one.

Those were the days of REAL people, not the fake over-confident, professional gameshow contestants we have now. I utterly loathe the people on telly now. Bullseye was one of those shows that wasn't really a game show, more like a bit of fun with darts and questions with some jokes thrown in. The prizes were excellent for the time, quite valuable, I always liked seeing Jim get cash out to hand to the contestants but the really great thing about the show was even if you were the first team to be eliminated, you could still be in with a chance of playing the final round if the other teams opted out, not many shows that would do that, once you were out you were out. All in all a great show with a great atmosphere with Jim and co. Never to be replicated.

He gave the *real* sense of participant/viewer interaction of having a bit of fun and ease about everything on the show. Nowadays, the presenters are too smarmy, political, ruthless etc. Too be honest, ITV's gameshow programmes back then produced *much more* of Jim Bowen's genre due to different TV regions/companies producing the shows, thus setting their standards, rules, atmosphere, which made their shows more unique and much better, compared to the nationalized likes of Brucie and Bob over on the Beeb. All went out the window with the 1990 British Broadcasting Act and the corpse finally being shelled with the 2003 ITV merger.

Let’s be fair they were great days. All the family gathered around to watch Bullseye. No mobiles or computers. “ Let’s see what you could have won”! One of the great game show catchphrases.
Jim Bowen is genuinely made up for the people when they win. I like seeing that.

When the star prize was won.Jim always acted like he was breaking up a riot in a night club!
To be fair, these were Austere times, especially in the North, £300 was a lot of money to gamble.
I always remember this finale - the third place guys winning the Metro. Magic television. Those were the days of REAL people, not the fake over-confident, professional gameshow contestants we have now. I utterly loathe the people on telly now. The audience loved Jim because he was natural and even fluffed his lines now and then. I'd rather watch old episodes of this than middle class crap like 'Pointless'.

Magnificent telly. Would love to have Tony talk me down after a particularly shit day, what a voice the bloke had.
What a dart from the old boy.
Jim was a good guy, I was working at butlins in 1985 , he was at the end of the pig and whistle bar relaxing , he was cracking jokes and was making everyone laugh…
Jim genuinely wanted contestants to do well. The excitement when they won a *Star Prize* was both genuine and real! Rest easy Jim
Jim was a great presenter
@SuperTed19021
Жыл бұрын
