Building a HUGE Gaming Board/GIANT Diorama | Massive Tabletop World Build

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Alright, so this is it! The beginning of the massive Tabletop World board. At a whopping 6ft x 3'6" I'm going to attempt to do these incredible buildings justice and make the guys over at Tabletop World proud. A TALL order, I know! Can we do it? We'll start with the foundation in this video and you can judge for yourself whether we're on the right track or not.

Do you think the size of the buildings will go with the figurines LOTR SBG and warhammer AoS?

The only way I can think of to make a convincing rock face is to do a latex mold of the face of a very large (thin hopefully) rock of the desired shaped and size. It wouldn't be cheap especially for a one time mold. Flagstone, maybe slate or something similar.

There’s no way this only cost $2500. The buildings alone cost more than that - let alone the styrofoam, paints, flocking, scenery, and figures. When all is said and done if a person just wanted to pick up and build this it’d be a lot closer to $10,000 easy. Absolutely, beautifully, insane, madness - I would love to be a fly on the wall for game night! Do you read a Terry Prattchet? His is definitely the world for you to experience! Try “The Night Watch” on Audio book while you’re painting or building next.

@@crystalm4324 I think the buildings alone cost the $2500.00 if you go to the site and price things out, it does go quick!

So many people at home now just mindlessly watching TV. I showed this video to my 6yo niece and said "you know, we could MAKE something... like this guy!!!" (obviously on a somewhat smaller scale/scope haha) And do you know what the most important lesson I took from this video and taught her? That it's ok to make mistakes. The goal isn't to be perfect right out of the gate, but to at least TRY. From there, you can learn and fix mistakes if you make them, but if you don't even TRY, you'll never truly learn. I like watching all these various build videos for technique and all of that, but this video has a real life-lesson in it. Cliffs too steep? Buildings in the wrong place?! THAT'S OK! You can always change it!!! Bravo, sir!

All said and done this is turning into more of a display piece than gaming board for the ole hobby room as far as re-usability goes. I wanted to go all out with these buildings as far as detail. lmk what you think! We'll definitely will be making some proper, modular gaming boards in the future. 🙂

This is going to be a magnificent display piece!!! I can't wait to see the finished project. Just curious - Do you plan to have the buildings portable (for game play) or are you going to permanently attach them? Love all the detail you provide in your tutorials, it's a great help for those of us still on the terrain learning curve.

Only thing that I've noticed that you might have issues with is that with the big stacks of foam to build off of, you didn't reinforce it. I've worked on diorama, model rail, and wargaming terrain, and one of the major things that you really want to do with the stacks of foam, even using foam glues, is to get things to stud it with that help to deal with potential break points. Some people use nails from the underside or small dowels or bamboo skewers. It basically makes it a lot more durable for use and doesn't take much work or effort or cost to make it a whole lot stronger.

Ok, very cool terrain and love the TP-sculptamold updates. That said, I have a few technical issues with your layout. Placing the tall water mill so close to the wall defeats some of the point of having the wall-blocking line of sight for archers, giving invaders easier access up the cliff, etc. Most of the time, taller buildings would be inside or further from the wall. The second twiddle has to do with the windmill and cottage. You had the cottage up and the mill down. Logistically, you want the mill higher to catch more wind, especially as the walls block the wind from one direction sitting that close. If you switched them, the mill blades catch more air (though they would block more line of sight). Things to think about if you care about realist planning.

I've heard that the fumes from burning/melting foam is indeed toxic, but that depends on temperature and whatnot. There are also different kinds of foams so it might not be the case with all of them. Regardless, it is best to use a respirator and work in a well ventilated area if possible just to be safe.

I don’t know how to play table top games, I bet it’s very fun. I do however really think that these buildings are so cool that I would like to just build one of them just to look at. I build 1/12 miniatures and really enjoy that hobby, I also collect 1/6 scale. Miniatures. I love miniature dioramas so much I had to sell my house and buy a bigger one just to be able to house and display them all. I have a 1/12 Victorian mansion that is 4 stories high and has 16 roooms all ornately furnished. The house is 3’x4’ and been my pet project since 2008 but I’ve been collecting museum quality miniatures since 1980 when I was a senior in high school. On this house I have invested at least $50,000! It’s fully electrified with each room on its own circuit and I have gathered one of a kind miniatures from artisans all over the globe. My dining room is my favorite room and I spent $6000 on the China. It’s perfectly scaled and in the blue willow pattern service for six. Each place setting sits on a sterling silver charger plate and has dinner, salad, and bread and butter plates, soup bowl and cup and saucer. Three different crystal glasses and sterling silver flatware with a folded linen napkin on top. It’s quite spectacular. Thanks for inspiring me to make even more projects.

Wow, that all sounds absolutely incredible! I would love to see all of your work, in particular that mansion. Do you have a place somewhere online I can go to take a look at your collection? It sounds incredible. If you can email me the link @ realterrainhobbies@gmail.com that would be amazing. I’m afraid I might miss it if you post it in here.
