The tag above the ramp was just getting started, not even close to completion. Seems like they might've been planning a sick piece for the spot, I hope they understand the situation and don't take it personally.

MONK was going to be so sick, centered right above the quarter. You could tell the tagger was coming back at night and adding a little bit each time. But i understand not wanting the unwanted attention and getting city workers down there. I am currently on a journey to find this spot. So far im thinking the Carlsbad/Encinitas/Vista area, but could also be somewhere along the 76. My money is on the palomar airport area. Eventually I'll find it and skate it.

Tough situation, as both a skater and a graffiti artist it's hard for me to tell others not to tag up our diy, but it does have a negative impact on the way the mayor's feel about the spot. Something that's worked out for us - less tags and throwies, ask the artist to throw down a nice piece or mural.

A little bummed on the graffiti cover up if I'm honest. In the same way many of your DIY spots in the past have been you learning how to build, some of these graffiti writers are probably trying to find a private spot to practice and build their graffiti style. Also that piece directly above the obstacle looked like a lot of work was put into it and it was coming together pretty sick.

Subscribed immediately. Inspiring, and painting over the graffiti is such an amazing idea. I can’t believe I’ve never thought of that. growing up in SoCal, EVERYTHING gets tagged. It’s so annoying because they think the skaters are doing it and painting over it is such a simple fix!

the reason your shit is cracking is because you're using spec mix to float thin areas. mortar is weak so if you apply it thinly like you're doing it'll just crack off and crumble.

Good question! Mainly to avoid the city coming down to paint & destroy the spot. I do agree however, it’s a little ironic one vigilante covering another vigilante. Ultimately I made this decision knowing the city would paint it soon, and hopefully we can work together with the artist. I totally understand this is there space more then mine. Talk about inspirational, it's open up another dimension and to my surprise when I got back online I looked up dirt skating and discovered a whole lotta people doing it.

Street graffiti has the same problem as public skateparks. You got really good artists/skaters along side really bad artists/skaters. You could get a really cool tag, mural or good skater doing something tasteful, unique, thoughtful. OR you just get a straight up weeny, gettin in the way, an eye sore for what would/could be used for really good skating/art. Personally, when I see somebody tagging the skatepark or a spot, I’ll watch what they are doing, if it’s a mushroom/penis/curse words ima call them out and shun them like a little kid, “go scribble on your bedroom walls you loser” but if it’s tasteful ima mind my business.
