The hardest part of a diy spot is finding a good spot. The labor is easy because it's fun

Concreter here. Your mix is way to dry my dude. The filler is fine maybe a little more water but the smooth layer need much more water. Tapping it with the trowel brings the water to the surface than float the top with the trowel to smooth it. So much easier and quicker in the end. Will dry slower with less cracking.

I’d invest in a wheelbarrow to carry the bags and mix with. Much easier to mix in than a tarp and you can just wheel it to the form and dump it.

I would say the mix on the transition looked too dry, you don’t want to be adding too much water after you’ve placed it , a spray bottle is great to keep it moist for curing and finishing.

Cool build, man ! I could see a miniramp and a hip somewhere in there. What's the width of that ditch? At the bottom of your transition, you probably should cut or chip up the existing concrete so you new crete has something to bite on to and doesn't start breaking up at the bottom.

I should have you come to my house and DIY a small miniramp in my back yard. 😂 This is helpful though. I'm really debating doing it myself. I built a wood ramp but I think it could be better and wider and anymore I think concrete will be cheaper.

Do you still prefer or use Mortar as a top layer? Ive been building w concrete lately and if $ wasn't a problem I wld go with Ardex CD or even Mapei concrete patcher but I've been looking for a cheaper option cause both of those are around like $20ish for 20-30lbs... I'm actually resurfacing the slab in my backyard right now with sakcrete top n bond, which was $27 for 40lbs (also bag seems like its actually 40lbs compared to a slack 25lbs from other brands). Sakcrete also makes a product called flo-coat I think but I've never been a fan of stuff u don't trowel on! I had commented a while back u shld try mixing w a drill/paddle in a 5 gal bucket then saw a video where u had a whip set up! I used to do concrete and plaster work for the movie studios and I am also a pro when it comes to mud/drywall finishing! I've had a painting company for like 10 years. But anyways I was gonna say one other thing u may like to try if u haven't already, especially when it comes to jobs like the mortar layer or skim coating is a hawk! It's like a 16" metal square with a handle on the bottom, when I first started working w concrete/plaster everybody gave me crap cause I wld use a mud pan lol and I was skeptical of the hawk, but once I used it and was showed how to do it right I was like oh yeah this def has a use and can be a great and cheap tool at times! Love your channel tho and been watching and drawing inspiration from your channel for a while! I wld love to see u build some more specialized obstacles like a quater bank quater or bowl corners or even something new u dream up! Oh another thing I've been having trouble finding info on amd want to try, well maybe, one day is a fill free pour, where you use pvc pipes under a slab or whatever u r building and start the pour in the pipe and then have the form on top. Then they pvc has rebar and acts like legs to save from having to fill and move dirt and rocks. I saw this one video where a guy had a funky backyard set up and was using this style but cldnt find much info on how to do it like that...jist a idea. I've been designing a few things for my backyard and hoping to make some videos once I build it. Jist need 2 make up my mind on what to build next haha!!! I got twin sons that are 10 so trying to build something we both enjoy! Built a concrete quater last year. Thanks and hope you have a great day! 𝐃𝑱◎𝐋
