Hey Dr. Mike, I’m a beginner (slightly over a month of consistent training) and your videos have been helping me a shit ton. Today I was watching one of the glute workout tips videos where you talked about putting it all out there and giving every set all you’ve got, and it really motivated me so I worked my ass off on leg day (almost puked in the middle of lifetime after Bulgarian split squats). Going to keep that mentality for every set moving forward. I think my biggest takeaway is that less is more if you make the most of it (no cheat reps, no junk volume, full effort on every set, focusing on technique, no ego lifting). I can only bench 14 reps of 85 lbs but I gotta start somewhere! Getting my noob gains going and I’ll put the plates on with time. Thanks.

As a beginner, you don't have to push yourself that hard yet. May want to consider keeping in the 3 RIR range until you start to plateau. As long as your weight and/or reps per set are going up each week (and it will for a while as a noobie) there's no reason to push that hard yet. Save those tricks for when gaining gets harder, because eventually it will, and you don't want to desensitize yourself while the gains are easy. Plus pushing that hard as a beginner increases your injury risk for no reason. Just my 2 cents as a MSK doctor that has been training for 20+ years.

DeLauer is a humble dude. Dr. Mike is a great trainer 👌
My fav quote from a coach was "Why are you looking at the floor, there's no paycheck down there"

I think simply the idea behind why contracting the muscle in the most stretched position creates more muscle (motor units) is because it’s in it most disadvantaged position, so it has to work extremely hard to get the limbs to move, harder than if it wasn’t in the stretched position

My wrist doesn't appreciate this exercise so much so i just use wrist straps to mitigate it coz this one just nukes my triceps though i think i got my golfers elbow with this exercise coz i was training while stupid coz the dude that called me weak in the gym was there so i slammed 40lbs x 2 on the bar and went to town with it. Good times. Was the injury worth it? Mixed reaction for it coz i loved the look on everyone's faces but i couldn't do proper push movement for a whole 2 months and would i do it again? God i hope not but no promises.

The two I subscribe to and watch every episode of is Dr. Mike's RP and Thomas Delauer. It was good to see them working together and it reinforced my confidence in who I've chosen to learn from! And the comic relief of Dr.Mike is always a good laugh! Would love to train with him someday! Thanks to you both for your effort and time to share your k owledge and experience!

I've been getting back into shape after 5years of inactivity. I'm doing lightweight and the slow controlled release if that's what eccentric means. make the rep count! love it!
I’m watching this and I’m thinking of the teenager I see at the gym strutting around, zipping through squats where he’s dropping less than halfway and goes to 455 in like 4 minutes, almost not resting. These little bunny squats and silly fast.Nobody likes when someone tells them they look ridiculous but it was epic to watch. I appreciate these slow and painful routines. Thank you!

Mike’s devious laughter throughout makes this so much more entertaining
