    The cool feature of this system is that if you have newer drained or an older, weak, 12v battery that will fails to start the car... you are able to use the hybrid built in system to charge the 12v battery from the hybrid battery and then start the car without a boost from an external 2nd car! I had this happen in a 2013 LaCrosse with a 5 year old original 12v battery. I followed the instructions in the manual an it saved me when I was out one night. Next day it started, but weakly, so I had the dealer check the system and they load tested the 12v battery that failed the test and needed a new 12v battery.

    For those who have lost their manual: -Press MENU on the turn signal lever until Vehicle Information Menu is displayed. -Turn thumb-wheel to scroll through the menu items until Jump Start is displayed. -Press SET/CLR (button at tip of lever) to activate the jump start. -Select YES, the jump start will begin, and the display will show JUMP START ACTIVE, WAIT TO START. -When the jump start is complete, the display will show JUMP START COMPLETE. ATTEMPT START. Say a short prayer and turn the key. The on-board jump start function will then be automatically disabled. Repeat steps if necessary.

    Hi, I would not put much stock in that article. I have found that the EPA mpg ratings are pretty accurate. Of course every driver will have a different driving style; factors like outside temperature, acceleration rates, braking, and cruise control have huge impacts on fuel economy. The charging is all handled by the on-board computers, there is no provision for plug-in charging. The battery is a Li-Ion battery, it is charged differently than the NiMH batteries of the past.

    Thank you for breaking the system down. No other video explains it as well and detailed. When I bought my new Silverado with e-assist, I thought it was the coolest thing. As a hobby mechanic that I do all my own repairs on our cars, this eassist kinda of scared me. But you've explained it great. I thought it was way more complex, but realizing that the electric motor is basically powering/recovering energy via the crankshaft through a belt simplifies it greatly. I still cant grasp how it adds 15 hp to the crank via a serpentine belt. Is it more of the electric motor nullifying the parasitic loss on a gasoline engine?

    @TheDerfixer Hi, a colleague forwarded me an article on this topic. If the engine drives the rotor faster than the synchronous frequency of the stator, the rotor will still have induced magnetism, but as it collapses it will induce reverse current in the next stator poles as it cuts across them causing current to go back to the converter and battery. The stator never quits trying to drive the rotor at the calculated synchronous speed, but sometimes the engine drives the rotor faster than that.

    Great Presentation - Very Informative of e-Assist - a remarkable technology designed to capture & recover energy that is normally lost in the form of heat during braking and use that energy to assist in powering the vehicle. The result? Much improved fuel economy & increased service life of the brakes. Every vehicle should have e-Assist - it offers the improved mpg of a full hybrid at far lower cost.

Also the auto start stop isn't working. I have noticed that when I excessively use the radio and other features that requires a lot of power the battery under the hood drains. Example for one us the aux input and the Bluetooth feature. Could it be an alternator?

    This is unique to "e-assist" systems that provide such a small amount of boost. Lithium Ion isn't like lead-acid. Cycling around the 50% mark is a Lithium Ion battery's happy place. Keep them between 30% to 75% with low charge/discharge loads and they'll last forever.

  • @WeberAuto

    @WeberAuto

    6 жыл бұрын

    When you say "it's not keeping the charge" are you talking about the 12 volt battery and not the 130 Volt Li-Ion battery? If it is the 12 Volt battery and it is the original battery, it probably needs a new one. They only last 5-6 years. If it is not the original battery, you may have a parasitic drain, or you may have a DC-DC converter problem. Have it checked for trouble codes. If it is the130 Volt Li-Ion battery, you need to have the system checked for trouble codes. That battery should last about 10 years or 150,000 miles (241,401 km). Best wishes.

    You can only get so much diesel fuel from a barrel of crude oil which is why it costs about a dollar a gallon more than gasoline and will continue to increase in price (supply and demand). Diesels are expensive to purchase, maintain, and refuel. Additionally, diesel is NOT an alternative fuel, electricity is. It takes a lot of electricity to locate, ship, refine, distribute, and pump diesel and gasoline. lets bypass the fuel and use the electricity. Hybrids and EVs are the wave of the future.

    GM Junk,I have a 2013 Malibu Eco, needed new engine after 120,000 miles , my mistake was buying a used car, you never know how the other owner kept up with maintenance. I'll NEVER buy anything GM again! Word of advice, don't follow oil life monitor, change every 3,000 miles.
