Lyrics:
I was eight years old and running with a dime in my hand
Into the bus stop to pick up a paper for my old man
I'd sit on his lap in that big old Buick and steer as we drove through town
He'd tousle my hair and say son take a good look around
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
In '65 tension was running high at my high school
There was a lot of fights between the black and white
There was nothing you could do
Two cars at a light on a Saturday night in the back seat there was a gun
Words were passed in a shotgun blast
Troubled times had come
To my hometown
My hometown
My hometown
My hometown
Now Main Street's whitewashed windows and vacant stores
Seems like there ain't nobody wants to come down here no more
They're closing down the textile mill across the railroad tracks
Foreman says these jobs are going boys and they ain't coming back
To your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown
Last night me and Kate we laid in bed
Talking about getting out
Packing up our bags maybe heading south
I'm thirty five we got a boy of our own now
Last night I sat him up behind the wheel and said son take a good look around
This is your hometown

Beware scammers. I have only been listening to Bruce for 6 months. I am now 75. a year older than the Boss. I have made a concentrated study of his career and l can’t believe what l have missed. To say that l am now a fan puts it mildly. I listen to him every day and am devastated that l am not able to go to a concert. But there are lots of things l can’t do now and l accept my limitations. I thank from my heart all those dedicated fans who have posted clips or full concerts over the years. They bring me great pleasure. He deserves his nickname. There is no-one like him.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

If you ever wondered why they call him " The Boss" .. when he lifts the mic and the audience responds in perfect synchronicity ..Bruce just takes them home ... its beyond beautiful

Your mother would appreciate your words. Hometown to many of us, I, you, I believe, exists in our mind, real or perceived. This song, the words and experiences, from the ride(walk for me to light candle for mom), the racial tension, the job loss, moving south - literally my life. But your life, as mine, I don't know or assess. Your words and your mother are the greatest - in "our" hometown! Austin, TX now..i.e. moving south, a hard road

I grew up in his Hometown, Freehold NJ during the same era (1957-64). My next door neighbour was in High School with him. Been back frequently in recent years meeting old friends. The period before these the words in the lyrics was a good time to be there enjoying childhood. He sings of events after I left when things changed. The town has re-invented itself and is now a good social hub to enjoy good food and music. Bruce frequently shows up. My old friends often meet him for pizzas at Federici’s.

Bruce is just the most gorgeous musician on the planet. I hate being old; I love being young enough to appreciate Springsteen. xxx
This song has had special meaning for me ever since I heard it in college in the 80's. I wore out the cassette tape of this album and later got the CD. Every song on the Born in the USA album just did it for me. I wish I'd known back then what I needed to know. Bruce and the band have always been great. His writing and his music was something I needed to hear then, and ever since, it's been with me, always a positive influence when needed.

Not me. Didn't really have one. Never got the whole Americana solidarity of community. I always wished I had. G'ma had a coffee table book of Norman Rockwell's Sat eve post paintings. Springsteen often reminds me of those.

Best performer i have ever seen on the stage live, such an emotion! Ask me what s America for me, i ll always say that true America, the one that i like is Bruce’s America, not the one media social etc tell us about, not Hollywood, rap, skyscraper, corvette, limousine, beer at sport games, pop concert, but the one he tell and if i can add, the one Clint Eastwood tell in his film. Thanks Bruce

The fact he can just calmly stroll around the stage with just a mic in front of like 60,000 people all eating out of the palm of his hand is truly remarkable. He’s got to be one of the greatest performers of all time. I cannot wait till March 2nd!

For most of the performance, the way it was filmed made it seem like he was singing to himself. But at the end you see and hear that the crowd was with him the whole time. Such a powerful feeling of shared memory and experience.
