    @@robdangripp9406 During but the thing is possibility of a better invasion would have been use of Hall, Nash, Hogan and Savage. 1 they can easily bring up heat with Vince why they left and now you have Flair flipping their bill to bring them in storyline wise. So you have Flair being the "money guy" again if a big IF you could have snagged Sting and Luger and throw in DDP as the 4th you got the 4 Horsemen and 4 guys from NWO teaming up to take down WWE with everyone else their grunts. WCW and NWO icons teaming up against WWE top guys. You get stories where you have Hogan, Hall, Nash and Savage who all left WWF for more money and brighter future then you got guys WWE brought in later and you can push them as guys who were jaded against WCW. You have natural built in heat on both sides. WCW territories you book the WCW talent as faces and WWE territory heels and flip it obviously. There was money to be made.

"Fingerpoke of Doom" night happened. Which kinda hurt Schivone. When the invasion happened. WWE reached out to him, to replace Ross. But, he turned it down.

The nWo vs DX match X I would have X-Pac turn on DX and have him and the Big Show join the nWo in WWF. So much you can do.

    Many of the WCW guys that the WWE did not hire actually came out ahead considering that they didn’t have to risk physical injury, yet they still got paid the remainder of their WCW contracts. Bret Hart complained about “getting paid to do nothing in WCW”, then eventually he took a botched kick to the head from Bill Goldberg that ended his career. So much for “getting paid $2.8 million to do nothing”. While Bret was recovering in the hospital, he probably felt like it would have been better to have had the day off, rather than getting kicked in the head.

    Schiavone had the contract. I remember they did an angle with Tenay on TNA, about Tony wanting to collect his paycheck with Time Warner. Bagwell had the scuffle with Hurricane Helms, that’s why he was let go. Road Warrior Animal had just signed with WCW in 2001, so he still had a lot of his contract left. @@toddpurcell26 I know, that's what I'm talking about. That's the excuse for not bringing in the top guys like Goldberg, Sting, etc. - that it would be too expensive to offer them enough money to make it worth their while to set aside their guaranteed contracts for sitting at home. My point again was that Vince should have compared that expense with the tens of millions that WCW was expected to sell for and realize that since he got WCW for such a fire sale price he could splurge on its top stars to make the invasion angle the biggest all time event.

  • @grabbity

    @grabbity

    Unfortunately, even with the Stone Cold money, WWE couldn't afford to even match a lot of those contracts, let alone offer extra to have them work. Just between, Sting, Hall, Nash, Hogan and a couple others, they'd have been looking at 20 million bucks. Which, with current profit vs their profit then, would be the equivalent of paying Seth Rollins 75 million a year.

    @@davidgraham8299 No, I'm not assuming that. I get it that it would have cost a LOT to get them to suit up and take bumps since they were being paid well to sit. Again, I'm just comparing the cost of luring them back, eye-watering as it was, to the cost of having bought WCW at a more realistic, less of a fire-sale, price. If WCW would have cost hundreds of millions, or a hundred million, at a realistic price, and you got it for just a handful of million, then spend tens of millions or more to get those mega stars off the couch. Once in a lifetime angle, bigger than Hogan-Andre, nWO, you name it - it was worth it.

Always say"WE thought " when something worked, then blames Vince for everything that didnt. Tony specifically said he called WWE to say he was available. And I'm glad they brought up Jim Ross, he is the typical old man that thinks anyone younger than him is after his job. Eric B. specifically said he didn't come back for the invasion angle because of Ross' attitude toward him on the phone. Only when Vince called later did he agree to do it.

    WWE Had ECW To Join WCW To Make Up For The Fact That The Top WCW Stars Weren't Coming Over/Weren't Going To Be Brought Over. There Were 10 ECW Wrestlers That Joined WCW & Maybe 2 Or 3 More Before The Invasion Pay Per View. WCW Had 10 Top Stars, No 11 Top Stars, 1 More Than ECW's Entire Number Of Wrestlers(Same Number Of ECW Wrestlers That Joined) & Most Of The ECW Wrestlers Were Already With WWE.:Raven, The Dudley Boyz, Taz, & Rhyno.: Mike Awesome & Lance Storm Were With WCW. AND The Three ECW Wrestlers That WWE Just Signed Were Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer & Justin Credible. Really WWE Just Signed Three ECW Wrestlers That We r n't There Already Opposed To Signing Top WCW Stars In Atlanta, GA; WCW's Hometown. You Think WWE Would Sign TOP WCW Stars In WCW Hometown To Help Or Perhaps Let WCW Get Over On Its Own, But Instead They Signed 3 ECW Stars. How Many Top ECW Stars Were There Already. I Think Mike Awesome & Taz, Maybe Rob Van Dam. WCW Had 10 Top Stars, No 11 Top Stars To Be Signed, Plus DDP Had Already Signed. WWE Tried To Make It Look Like ECW As A Company Was Going To Replace A Few Top WCW Stars, But 8 ECW Wrestlers Were Already In WWE & WCW, & They Just Signed 3 More. ECW As A Whole Company Better Choice Than A Few Top WCW Stars To Make It Seems Like More Wrestlers Joined, Like The More The Better. I Don't Think So. Most Of Those ECW Wrestlers Were Already There In Both WWE & WCW. Only 3 More Joined. I DO You Think More ECW Wrestlers Would've Joined. If So, Then Maybe 9 More. Plus 3 Already Signed Is 12. WCW Had 11 Top Stars Plus DDP. Everybody Knows ECW Didn't Have More Top Stars Than WCW Nor WWE. Asides From Kurt Angle & Possibly Chris Jericho Either Became A Star In 2000 Or Was On The Verge Of Becoming One In 2001. WCW Rivaled That With Jeff Jarrett, Booker T & Scott Steiner, He'll Even Chris Benoit (He Became WCW World Champion Before He Left) In 2000, WWE Were Trying To Push Benoit Again, Chris Jericho & Kurt Angle. WCW Tried To Push Several Younger Guys In The New Blood, But They Failed & Jeff Jarrett, Booker T & Scott Steiner Ended Up Succeszful. That's 3 & 3 For Both Companies. Say If WWE Tried To Push Rikishi. WCW Tried To Push Billy Kidman, Shane Douglas, Vampiro, Chuck Palumbo & Mike Awesome, Which WWE Could've Rivaled With Rikishi. They Both Successfully Pushed 3 Stars Each, Plus Chris Benoit Each. And The Already Top WWE Stars Were Steve Austin. The Rock, The Undertaker, HHH, Kane, Mick Foley, The Big Show & Shawn Michaels. That's 8 Established Main Eventers, Full Main Eventers A+ Players. And WCW Top Stars were Hiulk Hogan, Sting, Goldberg, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Sid Vicious, Lex Luger, Roddy Piper, Ric.Flair, Randy Savage & Bret Hart. That's 8 WWE Established Attitude Era Top Stars & Add DDP & That's 12 Top WCW Stars, Established. ECW Doesn't Have More Than Either WCW Nor WWE. So ECW Couldn't Replace WCW Top Stars, Because WCW Had/Has More Top Stars Than ECW Had A Whole Company In The WWE During The Invasion. Now Since WCW Had/Has More Top Stars, They Could've Still Brought Over Some More Mid-career To Match Or Outmatch ECW Wrestlers That Come After The July 9, 2001 Raw Is War In Atlanta. Perhaps They Could've Brought Over Stevie Ray, Bam Bam Bigelow, Kronik, &Jerry Flynn & Scott Steiner Who Was Main Eventing The Last 4 Months In WCW. Maybe Meng/Haku Could've Jumped Ship To WCW; After All, He Did Almost Become WCW World Champion August 10, 1998 & He Wrestled More Main Eventers In WCW Than In WWE; Sting, Hogan, Savage, Luger, Hall & Nash With The Barbarian, Goldberg, The Giant & Bret Hart. Meng & The Barbarian Could Jump Ship vs D'Lo Brown & Mark Henry, & Harlem Hest Could Take On Any WWE Midcard Tag Team & Kronik Could've Taken On the APA. Yeah & Scott Steiner & Booker T Can Feud With Chris Jericho & Kurt Angle, Which Booker T Did Wrestle Against Kurt Angle & Scott Steiner Could Feud With Chris Jericho. NOW HOW DOES THAT SOUNDS! SO REALLY, THE INVASION LACKED QUALITY TOO.

    Ya I think they should of brought in Alex Wright and Disco Inferno and all the luchadors like La Parka, Juvy, Psychosis, Ultimo Dragon, sooner than they did.

    Dream matches should have been what happened. A damn shame it didnt. And ECW backing financially. ECW are the real winners of all that in hindsight.

    Randy cost Vince millions of dollars. He took the SlimJim contract with him. In fact Bishoff has stated that rather than WCW paying Randy a salary WCW were paid by SlimJim for Randy appearing with SlimJim covering all of Randy's wages. On top of that Randy knocked Vince on his arse in front of would be investors in a hotel restaurant when he Piper and Hogan went to talk to Vince man to man about the Hickster and the Nacho Man stuff. As for the Randy/Stephanie stuff that is people putting two and two together and making five. Vampiro cut a promo where he called Randy old and pointed out the age difference between Randy and his then partner Stephanie Bellows aka Gorgeous George. But he used her real name (he would also call Sting Steve, Luger Larry and even Hogan Terry) as was his thing at the time, years later people hear this and and only know of one Stephanie in Wrestling. Bellows was 25 when she met Randy.

    martyc909 Hmmm I can't provide an exact date or reference, but I'm pretty sure Shane was calling himself the Franchise in ECW in like 94/95, but Sting wasn't referred to as such until his Crow gimmick, maybe a little earlier with the NWO perhaps in 96 at the earliest. Correct me if I'm wrong

    If WWE had the money they have now they'd have hired every top star right a way and put on a true WCW invasion angle. They made WCW a joke in the invasion because they could only get the jobbers, the real stars were sitting out there multi million dollar contracts.
