Yep, I came here to say the same. Saw him live a few times, back in the day. His interaction with his audience, humour and respect and love he has for his back up singers and band makes him a brilliant, all round entertainer. Plus, he is just a really nice bloke. What you see is who he is! Hope he makes a full recovery and is able to enjoy his, hopefully, many years left with his lovely family and friends.

Some fun facts:- 1) Freddy Mercury thought Farnham had one of the best voices he’d heard and Queen approached John Farnham to be their lead singer before anyone else 2) John Lennon said Farnham’s version of HELP was how it was intended to be sung 3) Farnham’s range is 3.2 octaves, he can sing opera, Broadway, soul, pop and rock. He chose not to go international for family reasons. 4) He’s sung with Tom Jones, Ray Charles, Celine and more. Look forward to more from you guys thank you for this reaction. We appreciate it very much.

John migrated to Melbourne, Australia with his family when he was ten. He was singing in bands from the age of fourteen. He became an Australian citizen and was awarded the Order Of Australia for his services to the Australian music industry. He has a powerful, clear and totally in tune voice of a number of octaves and sings in over twenty different genres. He is well- loved by Australians and they are with him all the way in his wonderful sell-out, many times over, concerts. A number of his songs have a message for the greater good of the world. He is the consummate, charismatic showman.

John could still belt out a song right up until his cancer diagnosis. His voice was as strong as ever at age 72. Aussies best ever singer. We all hope he has a good recovery and will still be able to sing. We are very proud of him.👏👏👏

  • @carmelmcshanag8144

I may be remembering incorrectly, but I think when John first got hold of this song, he asked for the bagpipe solo. The original recording was entirely synthesised except for the bagpipes ... and then they inadvertently forgot to credit him on the album. This guy is wearing Australia's tartan and John always showcases his fellow artists ... you are right! He is a great singer but is also incapable of singing a bad note ... anything from this concert will blow your minds! He does a legendary cover of the Beatles "Help" to close the show! Then there's the rest of his catalogue! He covers "Black DOg" and sings with other legends including Queen, Ray Charles and Tom Jones. He and Tom did a whole series together. The entire nation is sending him love right now as he gets through this huge health challenge! You're also right that life is unfair! The greatest vocalist on the planet should never be afflicted with mouth cancer. He has had to have his jaw reconstructed at 73 and may never sing again! He gave us plenty and we just want him happy and healthy! Get well Farnsey!

Awesome reaction BP1 AND BP2. Great to see you react to not just the greatest voice in Australia but one of the greatest of all time and one of the very few performers who is blessed to sound even better live than recorded. John never missed a note and has perfect pitch. His interaction with the audience is amazing to watch live. The Voice and several of his other hits were big in the UK and Europe but no where near as well known as he is in Aus. He was still performing until fairly recently and his voice was still amazing and could still hit those high notes with ease. Sadly with his current treatment for cancer in his jaw, it's unlikely he will ever perform live again and the whole of Australia is behind him wishing him the best outcome. There are literally hundreds of great live performances of John available on the internet so this proud Aussie is hoping that you will check out a lot more from this Aussie Icon. Any thing from that same concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is a great start. Try HELP, That's Freedom, It's a Long way to the Top (ACDC cover), Age of Reason, Take the Pressure Down. Cheers from Aus!!

This song was John's "return" from the wilderness. After years of success on the "pop" scene (and some musical theatre) radios wouldn't play his music. His manager mortgaged his house to help finance the production and - voila - John's anthem came into being and resulted in a huge hit locally and internationally and suddenly all the radio stations were playing John Farnham again. Hit after hit followed with him performing umpteen rounds of concerts through into the 2000s. John was tagged as "The Voice" in Australia and no one argues that he isn't. Great singer, great performer, great human being. Get will John.

Don’t call John or my husband a Brit. They both moved here as kids. John became a Citizen really fast in the 80’s when he found he was about to be awarded Australian of the year. He was 70 last time I heard him sing and he sounded just like that. Now you need to hear him sing Help live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. It might be a Beatles song but John shows them how to sing it. John had number one hits in 5 consecutive decades. The Voice is our Legend and I have not seen any genre he cannot sing yet. I saw a part of an interview tonight with his sons. John is blown away that Australia are with him and love him. He thought he was forgotten and that will never happen. Not with reactors and us listening. He has given us more than 50 years of music and it is enough. God loves you John, as much as Australia does so get well. ❤ Thank you.

He had a bit of the same trajectory as Olivia Newton John: a British born Aussie who emerged in the 60s. Of course she moved to the US and became ONJ with the whole world, while John had some hard times after leaving Little River Band, before he had glorious comeback with this monster hit in 1986. Apparently they were friends, but it was later in their lives that they actually got to sing together, (in the 90s and later, I think - and of course at the 2000 Sydney Olympics). And now he’s fighting cancer, literally weeks after she passed. The two of them are probably the universally most loved artists in Australia. And this song might just as well have been their national anthem. John Farnham-era Little River Band is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. If nothing else, their Playing To Win is a bonafide 80s banger.

A little extra info, away from the stage John had a property where he bred Quarter horses and was a quarter horse trainer & master rider. Anything from that period with the MSO is great, especially It's a long Way to the Top if You Want to Rock and Roll and Help. Either Paul McCartney or John Lennon (different reports) said that John's slower version was their preferred version for the song but they were outvoted. He also does amazing light opera, rock, romantic duets, stage musicals, there is nothing "The Voice" can't sing spectacularly. He is also the nicest of human beings. Enjoy!!

Yes yes he’s the voice and all that, but his microphone stand game is also second to none. Playing to Win from the Acoustic Chapel Sessions is more recent than this and is a great demo of how well his voice stood up to the test of time. Fun fact: I have been the piper in that song for John a number of times

Farnsey is an Australian national treasure despite the fact he was a refugee from Pomgolia , his live performances are always better than his recordings and they are spectacular . His musicians and backup singers are all recognised performers here in AUS and his shows which included banter with the audience who sang along at any given chance were an experience you will never forget, his tribute cover of the Beatles song HELP is his most reacted to performance on U TUBE so I suggest you check it out , but he has dozens of songs and all of them are amazing , my favourites are PLAYING TO WIN , WHEN THE WAR IS OVER , ANGELS , and if you want to be blown away check out his version of ACDC's LONG WAY TO THE TOP from this same concert everyone on stage is involved as is most of the audience it truly is something to behold and will show you pomgahnistanies what we Aussies enjoy on a regular basis .

He moved to Australia at age 10 to Melbourne (pronounced Melb'n) with his family but if U hear Farnsey talk you'd have no idea he was born & lived in England for the first 10 years of his life. He's as yobbo as yobbo even bogan like when he talks, with a typical Aussie sense of humour which the majority of the world don't understand our sense of humour. He's extremely funny, very quick witted & a very smartarse sense of humour. Farnsey, just like his great mate Jimmy Barnes or Barnsey as we call him, are loved & cherished by all Aussie's young & old, male & female.

Well, it's not often that I get in early on a reaction, what with the five hour time difference, but I did on this one! And what a song! It must be the problems of getting foreign songs into the US market, but I had never heard this song or heard of John. He was great, the song was great! You can't beat a full on symphony orchestra for power when they really bring it. Having played in large concert bands and a (small) orchestra, I understand the dynamics between musicians and conductor, and how important that is. I could see it in this piece, the work was done in rehearsal. If it all works, the conductor gives the down beat and the machine takes off. The audience doesn't realize what went into it. I would have loved to see the rehearsals, they are always more interesting than the performance

@@BritPopsReact Oh dear God, no! Not the face made for radio! I played tuba in my high school and college bands, with concerts after the football season was over. College marching bands at American college football games is something that really isn't a thing outside of the US, but here it is a big deal, and my school's band operates at the highest level. It is a big deal. My Mother, a percussionist, got me into a small, local, unpaid, volunteer orchestra, mainly to help move the tympani around. It was fun until work got in the way, and I haven't played in years. Don't look for me on stage with Wagakki Band. I was okay, but not that good
