It’s a shame that people do this; I wonder how much loss this Hotel suffered because of what was written online. What a fabulous price for city centre Manchester. What an entrance wow! Love the commemorateions to staff who died in the wars i think thats beautiful. Tourist tax like you I haven't heard of it in the UK. The rooms without windows are very basic but its in the booking and price reflects it. What do folk want? Keep up the great work we've loved the ones we've seen so far 💙

I liked the video. Fair review. This hotel struck me as a bewildering combination of opulence (the spectacular staircase), ornamentation, starkness and a down-home cosy room! It helped a lot that it wasn't a ghost town but a lively atmosphere on the main floor and the modernised dining area. A bit pricy but I make allowance that they may be still paying off the staircase and the magnificent chandelier; definitely feel that all the money got spent on the entrance and lobby! I'd happily stay there just for the stairs and chandelier alone!

My partner and I used to stay here regularly before we moved to Manchester. Always had an internal room which was very reasonably priced. Never had a problem and thought the hotel was really great !

I agree with you, if it's clean and comfortable I will stay, would not complain about anything. I thoroughly enjoyed the music and the views of that beautiful chandelier and staircase - imagine it in it's heyday, the Hotel has manged to keep some of the glamour. For what you paid, that's amazing. Tourist Tax is neither here nor there it's so low- at the moment anyway. Another very, very honest and fair review. Sometimes I wish I didn't read reviews but it's nice when they're not founded

Great price on your room and the room looked fine dated but clean which is the most important, not fair for the visitors tax though, stunning staircase, love the decor of a by gone era, with art deco being my favorite, so much more charactor and style than the modern open plan hotels of today 😊

Stayed here for a night years ago when our plane was delayed.. our room was huge it had a huge 4 poster bed and a separate lounge room and my mum's friend was given a 2 floor room with the round windows and it had a spiral stairs to get to the upper part which was the bedroom.. was only young so that's all I remember but it was amazing

I stayed in the Britannia Hotel many times in the 1980s....I remember the chandelier....hope to return one day soon.

I love your videos, new subscriber. Thank you! I can’t believe this is a Britannia. I live in Southport. They have absolutely annihilated two once great hotels here, the Prince of Wales and the Scarisbrick. Don’t get me started on the Adelphi in Liverpool either. This however looks ok, better than ok to be fair.

Hubby and I stayed in the room above the sign to the left of the entrance. It was exceptionally clean and cosy. Traffic noise was expected but this didn’t bother us at all.

Must admit that looks really nice ! The staircase was beautiful. I would stay there. Great channel 👍

I stayed here a few years ago before an early morning flight from Manchester and I found it perfectly adequate. The price was also good. Although your price was better.

Looked good to me, though Ive never stayed but in the bar. Price seems fair a city hotel.

Another great review look at nice option in manchester love your channel i agree cleanliness is everything in a hotel however lets not forget there are a lot of people who will complain there’s no air con in alibabas cave lol keep up the good work xxxx

I've stayed at the hotel a fair few times. They have worked on the rooms over the years standards have definitely improved. Going back 10 years I've had rooms with Chewing gum on the curtains. Substandard cleaning in the room etc.

Hotel has impressive chandeliers and staircase. The dated furniture wouldn't bother me but perhaps the noise would.The breakfast looked OK as well.I have never been to Manchester but if I went I wouldn't object to staying there. Enjoyed the video.

I have stayed there twice .no complaints .great location. Carol from Lytham St Annes.

Looks great like you said Paul, maybe old fashioned but you'd expect that.Just proves reviews are not always reliable. But in high season or at popular times when the price is higher, guests may be more critical. 😊

Italy do charge a tourist tax in high season and it only kicks in after a 3 day stay. I agree with you Paul I am not sure abt a tourist tax

Stayed a few times never had a problem, can't say on breakfast as not tried yet

Berlin charges a tourist tax, there shouldn’t be one in your own country.

Looked decent enough! Light switches looked odd!!! Breakfast looked ok too! Looking forward to the next one

Watching your video, I might stay there, next year. This year I did stay in the BRITANNIA Manchester Airport Hotel , before getting a flight to Tenerife , when I came back, I book a night at Adelphi Hotel (room 301), a day before I came back, in Tenerife, as going to be late in Manchester Airport, to get back to Norwich, and the friend I was with, lives in Liverpool. Great video 😎

Tourist tax is normal in Manchester for a year or so now, twice though they've waived it for me haha

This hotel is good stayed many times and good value

This is not bad because in the past the Britannia had bad reviews and we stayed in one in 2009 and it was another Britannia hotel and not so good. This one was cosy and clean.

Hi Paul - just found your channel as we are in Benidorm and watched your Beni vids. I’m a Manc but have never stayed in the Britannia but know it is very opulent looking inside. I think Sachs’s is a worse hotel . I think you’ve got our mayor Andy Burman to thank for the tourist tax ! Working through your back catalogue now and enjoying Many thanks

Only decent britannia hotel we have stayed in was the Britannia country house hotel at Didsbury Manchester.First class rooms and great food.

Great review as always. I would have unplugged those lamps and swapped them around to be honest. But then I do think I have a mild OCD with things matching and being in their place. 🤣 The light switches would have bothered me more than the lamps, but the room didn't seem as bad as I would expect from a Britannia hotel. Regards the "Tourist Tax" this seems to be something Britannia has just made up themselves, as according to House of Commons Library: "At present, in England, neither the central government nor local councils have the power to introduce a tourist tax. Primary legislation would be required to permit this. The UK Government stated on 18 September 2023 that it has no plans to do this." So this seems a bit dodgy to me if they are claiming that it is an actual *tax*.

No the tax is genuine to Manchester as a whole. Guessing some just add it to the room rate.

For that hotel, (couldn't be more central if one tried), and for that price - looks bang on to me. I stayed there about 10 years ago but it looks to have had a bit of a spruce up recently. It can be noisy though, so if that bothers you, it can be a problem. But that's a structural and location issue. Take some ear plugs. It's not The Ritz. Actually. I'd like someone to stay at The Ritz just to compare, I'm not convinced some of those so called high class hotels that charge a fortune are as perfect as one might expect.

Alway check your mattress, little black flecks are not a good sign, we have an outbreak of bedbugs in this country at the moment, and little black flecks are a sign of bedbug poo, not a nice thing to be woken up with in the early hours, great vlog xxx

Great review. I think the hotel looked decent. Beautiful old building, so much character. Only negative was the picture in the corner and the non matching lamps 😂😂😂

Hi Paul great video I’ve never been charged tourist tax for hotel stay in UK. Never seen light switches like those in your room which was very nice&worth £55.20 paid for 1 night b&b yes think got lucky with your room. Hotel very luxurious definitely titanic feel to it food looked pretty good some reviews but misleading👍

Britannia Hotels has the issue people want 5 star facilities for 1 star prices.Book at reception prices are high but deals in advance are usually pretty good.If you have an issue then treat staff right and you should get a result.Go in guns blazing and you’ll probably get what you deserve.

Always great to be pleasantly surprised! I always imagine the terrible reviews come from posh people. The hotel was very decent and the room most accomadating. 😊

What more could you ask for,looks lovely,brittania seem to buy big outdated hotels but don't spend anything on them apart from greed I think because there listed you are limited to what you can do,I would have had 3 English breakfasts lol,the tax is very weird it's not like you live outside the UK is it

Tourist tax, what next, dont like that myself, it looks a beautiful hotel, better than Liverpool, but id still stay at the Liverpool hotel. But now ive seen your blog today, one day or 2 days next year ill go & stay at the Manchester hotel.

I have no idea why people spoke badly of the hotel Paul it looked beautiful in side and out well kept you can tell money has been spent on it. The tax is a joke mind. What word were you going to use Paul lol. The price was outstanding.

You seemed shocked the sheets were fresh on? That's not a bonus...its a MUST.

Sometimes I'm a bit unsure if they have been changed since the previous occupier that why I mentioned they were fresh on as you said it's a must but always look out for the iron creases

The problem is we Britannia hotels It’s just a trend for people just to say bad things about them even though the generally not true

Looks like the Titanic hehe ,to charge that bit extra I find it's a slightly bit discusting really to charge Brits for this hotel, but it's a not bad room ,tiny bit dated tho a room with a view slightly I don't think so 😅😅

Worst hotel in the UK. As if. Look at it, the staircase, the lights, it's beautiful. Yes it's dated, it's an old building. People are idiots.

You are a brave man bashing out all of the Britannia PLC hotels.One thing that gets me about them is the ungodly 10 hr.check out combined with a 16 hr check in..

Naff sanitaryware and really naff brassware - plastic top taps! Charged wifi. Noisy slamming doors - no thanks!

Stayed here in a twin room with my brother about 15 years ago, and it was awful. That bad- that we laugh about it nowadays! Think we were on the third floor and facing out the front. Felt like we'd time warped back the 70's. Room wasn't bad though the ensuite had seen better days with lime green tiles and dodgy grout on a double vanity unit. I remember the main lift was out of order so we had to use the service lift, which had a cage on it. The staircases were indeed very impressive and grand but desperately needed freshening up with a lick of paint. Breakfast was a disaster- had to go downstairs into the basement - complete chaos. No clean tables, no cutlery very few staff on hand - so tables were left piled high with dirty crockery. Breakfast was very average. Think we stayed 2 nights, a Friday and a Saturday. I was very amused to see that most of the other guests were dressed in Man U gear and were going to a home game!

I believe Manchester is the first place in the UK to have a "Tourist Tax" since April 2023.
