The WORST RATED Hotel In The UK? Adelphi Hotel Liverpool

I stayed in The Adelphi Hotel Liverpool owned by Britannia Hotels
It's received some very bad reviews on Tripadvisor and some bad press over years , Is it really as bad as some people say? I had to find out!.
Join me as I explore this Grand Hotel.
The Britannia Adelphi Hotel is in Ranelagh Place, Liverpool city centre, Merseyside, England. The present building is the third hotel on the site, and is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. Basically Paul, anything Britannia Hotels owns (pontins, Adelphi, scarisbrick in Southport the grand hotel Llandudno and other places around the country) they don’t give a crap and they’re all needing to be done up and quick. The worst part is that they’re all in the best places / locations too or most of the time

They have also taken over the royal clifton hotel across from the gardens in southport and the Prince of wales on lord Street and turned both into scruffy places . These are grand old hotels full of history. The latter has had Frank sinatra Bing crosby Bette davis Eartha kitt Princess Margaret Cliff Richard Hot Chocolate Elkie Brookes and many more staying. Its such a shame. On another note Britannia has also taken on pontins in ainsdale southport and it is now a hell hole. So sad.

I stayed in here with my Dog. I found it a pleasant stay and it was the same reasonable price. All in all a good deal and in my opinion worth it. Great video and love your easy going presentation and manner. The Adelphi is a double for the Shining movie too!! I was half expecting a kid in a tricycle to come round the corner!! Love the channel. 🙏❤️.x

I have stayed at the Adelphi many times and have never had any problems. Whilst I would agree there is no excuse for pubic hairs in the bath, overall the place is reasonably clean. I personally think the problem is that many people have become professional moaners and search for the slightest thing to complain about in the hope of getting a refund or something for free. Given the history of the hotel I and it’s beauty it would be criminal to do away with its character. People should realise this when making a booking, if they want something chic and modern then stay elsewhere, but also be prepared to pay for the privilege as it will undoubtedly be very much more expensive.

hi paul i can fondly remember staying at the adelphi years ago when then it was the place to stay beautiful rooms restaurant was first class and very busy i parked the car in the adelphi garage next to the hotel but obviously being in the city centre at the time i paid £9 per night but it was managed by the hotel and was locked up after 9.00pm until 7.00am great memories of a great hotel and great city.

I would imagine not only the cost to remove the marble walling, but also the fact that the inside is most probably listed, the outside definitely is a listed building, so any windows that need replacing have to be a certain type, love you and your videos Paul 😍

So sad. When I was growing up there in the 70s, the Adelphi was a by-word for luxury, like the Ritz. Gone the way of much of the glory of Liverpool. But a lot has been saved too - thank goodness The Albert Dock warehouses weren't demolished, as was once planned!

I loved the TV series about this Hotel years ago. So sorry to see it has so many bad reviews. The Victorian/Art Deco public areas and function rooms look FABULOUS. From an era long gone. Yes the bedroom is tired but even keeping the original features, sink/wardrobe it could be made to look a lot better with a few items of coordinating furniture, a paint job, adding a bright colour to the wall behind the bed and add complimentary soft furnishings - cushions. curtains. That bathroom needs a complete refit! It could look so much better. People want the boutique hotel vibe now not so much the corporate unified branding. And if the clientele is still as it used to be it'll be us older folks - coach trips - and the Turkey and Tinsel brigade who frequent most. But for the price it looks a decent place to stay when visiting your FABULOUS city. Unlimited breakfast for a tenner....proper job. 😊

I stay there three times, this year, first 301 one night, then second 469 & then in September 506, which was near the lifts, could hear them, as one of the two lifts was not working, so used the fronts stairs a lot. The two stairs ways at back, are not good, and one lift was not working. I was mostly using the front, which is nice. I did like my stay at the hotel, I mostly stay there, because of the location, and the bars near by, plus I thought it was cheap.

I stayed there and found the room very acceptable and clean. When you think years ago the richest of people would have stayed here however today at a budget price ordinarily people get the opportunity to stay here. The marble walls I found fascinating and the lounge and other places with chandeliers and grand pianos made the place a joy to stay in. I will definitely be going back.

Myself and the wife stayed here for 3 nights a few days. We got it for a very reasonable price. Yes, definitely this hotel has seen better times and has an atmosphere of faded past glory. I was a little bit apprehensive beforehand because of all the terrible TripAdvisor reviews. Now that I'm home I can definitely say that I would have no problem with staying in the Adelphi again. I found the location to be very convenient and our room was clean and comfortable. What more could you ask for at a reasonable price?

In all honesty it's a beautiful hotel very much like the interior of the Titanic and Olympic in it's glory days, it's like stepping back in time the smell of musty old perfumes the curtains they smell like Norman Hartnell talc of yester year I stayed for 2 nights slept well, The Sefton Suite is a replica of that room that was on the Titanic I walked inside took photos but they were workers doing work to the room restoring it. Britannia doesn't seem to care that they have such an antique of a place it could be more looked after, as for haunted those corridors are creepy like something out of The Shinning I was walking along I heard a young girl coughing, there was nobody there. it's not the worst hotel I have stayed in this is a class all of it's own, if I ever went back to Liverpool I would stay here again.

At this precise moment I am sat in bed in a room at the Adelphi.😅 It's six years since we stayed here & I have to say this place has improved massively since we were last here. We are on a four night coach trip which was quite reasonably priced. It's not the Ritz but is much better than many others we have stayed in. Buffet style breakfast & evening dinner every day, well worth the money. Liverpool is a fantastic city to visit with plenty to see & do with lots of history. I look forward to coming back to the Adelphi again. Hopefully I might get my missus to moan a bit later on.😊😊

Nice honest review! The hotel itself looks nice, although I prefer somewhere smaller as my back can't tolerate walking the huge corridors to and from the room. I agree with your comments on the marble walls although I think plants would make it look even more like a mausoleum. Maybe some paintings instead? 🤣

Hi Paul I have to start with saying your too kind about the state of the bedroom. The first thing the bedding is a concern to me. Sheets not new, following somebody having slept in it, body hair in the sink, so not very hygienic there!. It was as you say 'dated' and in my opinion is an understatement. The general maintenance of the room was a lot to be desired. Now downstairs Paul was a different story. I agree the lounge area was super nice from what i could see of it, with beautiful chairs and decorative pictures. So all in all Paul my take on this Hotel, 'requires improvement'. Your a super chap Paul and i respect your views never the less. I have to say this has too come down to poor management nothing more, nothing less.

Price is very cheap for City Centre Hotel and yes it’s a great breakfast “as much as you want to eat” and the staff are fantastic. I’d stay there anytime I’m overnight in Liverpool and the function rooms a gorgeous it just a beautiful old building that need a “lot of 💰 “ throwing at it! But it’s not going to put me off as I’ve had some fantastic Dinners (functions) and luncheons there and every time I’ve left I’ve been happy whit my stay

I’ll give you a tip anyone staying in Liverpool avoid the Adelphi it is a horrible place. I’ve stayed there years ago with the wife. The taxi drivers hate the place they say it should have been condemned years ago. Pre 1982 it was a great hotel before Britannia got there hands on it. Tour companies use it because it’s cheap. So I avoid these tours . There are plenty of nice hotels in Liverpool.
