Britain's Most Hated Big Family | Big Families

Meet Britain's Most Hated Big Family. The Hamlins. The dad works while the mum stays at home, budgeting fiercely to help keep the family afloat. They've got 12 children and have come to the terms with the fact it was their decision and want to take responsibility for all of them. However, they do still collect child support and working family tax credits. Neither of them ahs ever claimed income support., disability benefit or housing benefit. They'd like for their children to have a good example growing up and not think everything is giving to you in life. They pay for everything themselves and to save money they buy in bulk and don't spend anything on something that isn't a necessity!
However, all of this leads to a lot of media attention. The media are determined to portray large families as people who sponge from the government. The media claim that families like the Hamlin's have only had numerous children so that they don't have to work.

this women isnt a prolific single mother, shes a mother of 14 with one father to all her children whose marrage fell apart. disgraceful the way this was put together. so what if she claims benefits, she already had her children, then her marrage broke down and she needed benefits, thats what its for!

@@HelenBellen123 With that many young kids still not of school age she'd spend more getting someone else to care for them than she could possibly make in wages. Where's the sense in that?? Not to mention the Dad should be equally responsible for their cost whether he lives with them or not. Then you have to consider that he is the one who wanted the big family in the first place, and he's the one who cheated on benefits. Where is your outrage at him? Plus a single man witj 6 kids isn’t necessarily desired by women unless he’s rich….which he is not. He’s stuck with that lady either way.

As for trainers at £30 He would likely be a laughing stock. Kids need to know that life isn't without problems, delays and compromise, and understanding their emotions and feelings and how to deal with them in an appropriate way. The world doesn't revolve around only him. Why shouldn't the kids do without luxuries for a little while.

I remember they had chickens and a goat, and the goat got loose (probably due to us teasing it) it started eating all the strawberries. We had such fun with Nathan, Roy, Virginia and I think there was another one on the way, before George finished at University, and the family moved back down to Newcastle. Theirs a family where i live thats a family of 10 they would have been more but the mum miscarried 5 the dad told me he was in competition with his cousin who has 10 kids which is just stupid.

Absolutely, children are precious and if they are loved, respected, well looked after, and given the attention they deserve, that's all that matters. However, allowing your 15 year old child to go out with boys without understanding that she *will* get pregnant, is *dumb* , and *irresponsible* . Every child deserves the proper care and opportunities to grow and develop into an adult.

I love seeing how my love exists within each household. My dad is from England, and his parents were from Scotland. My mother is African American. It was at some point in high school, when some of my cheerleading peers took note of how awkwardly I looked when I went in for a hug (we had to hug 2-3 football players each week during football season to drop off their good luck signs we designed). I was awkward because I really had not been used to any form of physical contact and affection from my family. And the same is true for other ways family extend their love toward one another. Now, my mother told me the family is the way it is because British people aren’t affectionate, don’t communicate, etc. And for a long time I really believed that. However, every time I see a British family in a documentary, I see unquestionable expressions of love, adoration, gratitude, and a longing to maintain closeness when children grow up and leave home. So I am not sure I really buy the idea of it being the norm that Brits are cold and distant. Can any Brits weigh in on this?

Having that many kids is irresponsible and selfish imo. My parents were baby hoarders, I'm one of 9 (they told us they had so many kids because they loved babies and when we grew older they had to replace us with another baby). My dad worked three jobs out of state to provide for us, we only saw him on the weekends so our mom was essentially a single mother. The older girls had to help raise the younger siblings, which put a lot of strain on us as we were children ourselves. My mom lived in survival mode, neither of our parents were consistently emotionally and physically present for us and even tho we had our basic needs provided, food, clothing and shelter, we didn't get our emotional/psychological needs met which scarred us for life. It's not possible to give that many children enough of your time and attention for them to develop into healthy functional adults, there's just no way that's possible, even with two involved parents. Having herds of children also puts a strain on the marriage/relationship, finances (even if you're wealthy), health etc. It goes against nature to raise children on an assembly line, it's not fair to them.

Grew up poor in a big family. Never knew I was poor until I went off to college. I am far more thankful for my big family and poverty than I would be had ai been given a single sibling and a porsce at 16. Kids are good. Fiances shouldn't be a reason to not raise a family. Really, I can't think of a good reason not to have kids. They're amazing and as long as a parent is willing to provide, it doesn't have a certain income minimum, or lifestyle look.

I’m sorry but it should have been the other way around. I’m talking about Georgina staying at home and her mother going out looking for boyfriends.. I mean, u can tell that the mother is more interested in going out herself. She has a babysitter for free, why she shouldn’t do it? A real mother should say: U go out, I’m staying at home with the kids I PUT IN THIS WORLD.

These parents all really love their kids and the children seem to be healthy and overall happy. There are no things more important in defining a good family than love and care. These kids get that. The parents are providing for the kids as best they can. They may not be in situations we would choose for ourselves. But our business should be on our own lives, not criticizing theirs. It seems the worst challenge these families face comes from outsiders judging them. It is grossly unfair to insult them and simply, not our place to do so.

Well said, exactly what I was going to comment. These parents provide for their children financially, mentally, emotionally, they love and care for every single child, the children are very well cared for in every way, they’re all very well behaved, intelligent, articulate, compassionate, empathetic, kind and well rounded. There are so many parents and children, from much smaller families where so many of these important aspects are missing completely. We should be praising the skills and achievements of the families shown here, not judging them at all. Their dedication and determination should be praised and acknowledged, not judging them on how many children they chose to have, that’s irrelevant and we have no right to judge others the way they are being judged by other members of society. Both the parents and their children are very much an asset to society. People need to get their own ‘house’ in order before criticising and judging others. ❤ Please forgive me for ranting about this but you’ve raised so many good points that people need to think about and I wanted to support what you’ve said. 👏

Children are a blessing from God. To the Watsons, God bless her she has not neglected them after her husband left her, beautiful children. Bless the Hamlin parents, doing a great job. 200 pounds for groceries is excellent budgeting for a family that size. People really need to mind their own business and not make rude comments just because they are a large family. The Hann making beautiful music together. God bless them. God bless all these families. Amen.

These families are truly blessed! They are right, having a large happy family is better than having a pile of disposable cash. Looking forward to seeing how their 12 or 14 children look after their parents once they are grown! I’ve experienced that a large family sharing and caring together will make the kids more likely to look after each other and their parents later in life than a family with few kids who get everything but grow up (spoilt) with disregard for their parents!
